Chapter 139: Chapter 139: My Fiancé, My Choice

~Third- POV~

He turned at the sound of his name, his brows furrowing in confusion. He looked toward the person standing a few feet away.

It was Spencer.

Reynold stared at him, momentarily taken aback by the unexpected encounter. Spencer, however, seemed genuinely pleased to see him. A wide, confident smile spread across his face as he started walking toward him.

Reynold glanced at Frederick. His jaw had tightened, his eyes fixed on Spencer. Reynold then gently squeezed Frederick’s hand.

"Daddy, can you excuse me for a moment? I want to greet a friend."

Frederick studied his face briefly before slowly releasing his hand. "Sure."

Reynold walked toward Spencer, stopping a few paces away. Spencer immediately opened his arms, apparently expecting a hug. "Reynold! I can’t believe it’s you—"

Reynold stepped back, raising a hand to stop him.

"Please, don’t. My fiancé is right over there."

Spencer’s arms fell to his sides. His gaze shifted past Reynold’s shoulder to Frederick, who stood beside the waiting car, watching them.

A dry, mocking laugh escaped Spencer.

"Ah, I see him. And I’ve read the news. It’s practically everywhere. So, Frederick Corvin is your man now, huh? I never thought you’d go for someone so much older than you, but I guess money makes people overlook a lot of things."

Reynold’s lips curved into a faint, unimpressed smile. "Funny how you assume money is the only reason someone would fall in love with a man like Frederick. Perhaps that’s because you can’t imagine someone choosing you for anything else."

Spencer’s smile faltered.

"That’s not what I’m trying to say. I didn’t mean that money is what you’re after. I just—"

"Think whatever you want," Reynold cut in, his expression hardening. "As far as I’m concerned, I don’t care. I only came over to say hello out of courtesy. I’ll take my leave now."

He turned and started walking back toward the car.

"Wait!" Spencer called, taking a few steps after him. "Aren’t you even surprised to see me here? Aren’t you going to ask what brought me to Paris?"

Reynold stopped and looked over his shoulder, his lips curling into a dismissive smile.

"Didn’t I make it clear that I wanted you to stay away from me? Whatever brought you to Paris is your business, not mine. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have someone more important waiting for me."

He turned to walk away, but Spencer’s voice stopped him.

"That’s harsh, Reynold."

Reynold turned back, his expression hardened.

"You started it, Spencer. I came over to greet you politely, but you clearly had other intentions. You were more interested in mocking me than having a simple conversation. Well, I have nothing to be ashamed of. Frederick and I love each other, and I’m not going to let anyone make me feel otherwise."

Without waiting for Spencer to respond, Reynold turned and walked back to Frederick.

As Reynold reached him, Frederick gently guided him into the back seat, placing a hand above his head to prevent him from bumping against the roof. Before getting in, he cast one final glance at Spencer, their eyes meeting briefly. Frederick’s expression made his displeasure clear.

He then slid into the seat beside Reynold. The driver closed the door as their security team climbed into the following SUV. Moments later, both vehicles pulled out of the private parking area and joined the Parisian traffic.

Reynold shifted closer to Frederick and wrapped his arms around his waist, resting his head against his chest. "I’m sorry about earlier, Daddy."

Frederick placed a hand on his back and gently rubbed it. "It’s fine, baby. But who was that?"

"He’s nobody," Reynold replied without hesitation. "Just someone who doesn’t matter."

Frederick drew him closer and pressed a lingering kiss to the top of his hair. "Okay."

Reynold let the warmth settle over him, one hand resting above Frederick’s heart. For a minute, there was only the hum of the road.

Then his phone buzzed against his hip. He ignored it, but another notification followed, then another. Within seconds, the phone was chiming repeatedly.

Frederick glanced down at Reynold. "Why so many notifications?"

"I think it’s the engagement announcement," Reynold replied with a small sigh. "Probably people leaving comments."

Frederick said nothing. He only nodded, but his attention stayed on the phone. The vibrations didn’t let up, and he couldn’t help wondering whether they were messages or comments.

Reynold, meanwhile, couldn’t stop thinking about Spencer’s bitterness during their encounter. Something about the way he’d spoken felt rehearsed, as though he’d been following the news about him and Frederick online and waiting for the right moment to mock him. But with the phone buzzing nonstop against his hip, he couldn’t hold on to the thought.

When the notifications showed no sign of stopping, he finally reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone.

The moment he unlocked the screen, his eyes fell on the sender’s name.

Spencer.

His brows drew together. He opened the conversation, and a series of unread messages filled the screen.

It’s actually nice to see you again, Reynold. Though, honestly, I can’t help feeling sorry for you. I never expected you to choose someone like Frederick. He’s considerably older than you, and I find it difficult to believe that you genuinely see him as the man you want to spend the rest of your life with."

You deserve someone closer to your age. Someone who can share your experiences and enjoy life with you without there being such a huge gap between you.

And don’t misunderstand me. I’m not saying you’re with him because of his money. I’m wealthy in my own right, and I can offer you a comfortable life without having to compete with anyone. I simply don’t understand why you’d choose him when you have other options.

I’ve wanted you for a long time, Reynold. I’m not going to pretend otherwise. Seeing you with him tonight only made me realize how much I still want you.

I want you to reconsider this relationship. Give me a chance to show you what I can offer. I can take care of you, give you the life you deserve, and make you happy.

You don’t have to settle for an older man. You can still choose me.

Reynold stared at the screen, his expression darkening with irritation. He couldn’t believe Spencer had the nerve to send him messages like that after he’d already made it clear he wanted nothing to do with him.

Without bothering to type a response, he locked his phone and slipped it back into his pocket.

"Frederick glanced down at him. ’Who was that?’"

Reynold looked up at him. "Just someone who seriously needs to visit a psychiatrist. It really doesn’t matter."

"Alright, baby," Frederick replied.

He was still curious about what exactly had been on Reynold’s phone, but he chose not to show it. He didn’t want to come across as insecure or jealous, and pressing Reynold for answers might only make him uncomfortable. So, for the moment, he let the matter drop.

A short while later, the car passed through the estate’s iron gates and approached the mansion. The driver pulled up at the main entrance, and the waiting bodyguards stepped forward to open the doors.

Frederick stepped out first and offered Reynold his hand. They walked inside with their fingers intertwined and climbed the grand marble staircase to the master suite.

"It’s been a long day," Reynold murmured, leaning his head against Frederick’s arm. "But I enjoyed every second of it with you."

Frederick smiled and pressed a kiss to his temple. "Me too, baby."

Inside the suite...
