Chapter 140: Chapter 140: The Past He Finally Revealed

~Third- POV~

"It’s been a long day," Reynold murmured, leaning his head against Frederick’s arm. "But I enjoyed every second of it with you."

Frederick smiled and pressed a kiss to his temple. "Me too, baby."

Inside the suite, they shed their formal clothes and stepped into the ensuite. The rainfall shower washed the exhaustion from their shoulders, and afterward, wrapped in plush white towels, they changed into matching silk pajamas. Reynold picked up his phone from the vanity on his way to the bed and slid beneath the sheets.

Frederick joined him a moment later. As soon as he settled against the headboard, Reynold curled into him, head on his broad chest, one arm draped across his waist.

Reynold unlocked his phone to check the time, but a banner dropped from the top of the screen: a fresh message from Spencer. His eyes narrowed. He pressed the side button, and the screen went dark.

Frederick caught the movement from the corner of his eye. He tried to read the name, but Reynold had been too quick.

When Reynold turned toward his own nightstand to plug in his phone, Frederick spoke, his voice deep and casual. "Sweetheart, let me plug that in on my side."

"Okay," Reynold said without a second thought, and handed it over.

Frederick connected the charger and set the phone on his nightstand. Then he wrapped an arm around Reynold’s waist, his long fingers tracing slow, rhythmic circles at the small of his back.

"Goodnight, babe," Reynold mumbled, his eyelids growing heavy.

"Goodnight, sweetheart," Frederick murmured.

He kept up the steady strokes until Reynold’s breathing deepened into the slow rhythm of sleep. He waited a few minutes more, just to be sure.

Then, carefully, he eased away and reached for the phone. He unlocked it and went straight to the messages.

Spencer’s name sat near the top. Frederick opened the thread and read, and his jaw set. His eyes went cold as he took in every bitter word: the pleading, the barbs about his age, the pathetic attempts to undermine the engagement.

He didn’t type a reply. Petulance like that didn’t deserve one. Instead, with calm precision, he blocked Spencer’s number across every call and messaging platform, then deleted the contact entirely.

With Spencer erased from Reynold’s phone, a quiet satisfaction settled over him. He locked the screen, returned the phone to its charger, and turned back to his little pet.

He pressed a lingering kiss into Reynold’s hair. "Goodnight, sweetheart," he whispered.

Then he drew Reynold closer against his chest, holding him comfortably in his arms as he closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.

The following morning, the first rays of sunlight slipped through the heavy drapes, gently illuminating the luxurious bedroom.

With their flight home scheduled for 11:00 AM, Frederick was the first to wake. He glanced down at Reynold, who had shifted away from his chest during the night, and smiled at his peaceful sleeping face. Careful not to wake him, Frederick eased out of bed and headed into the bathroom to freshen up."

When he returned, he began gathering their belongings. He personally checked that Reynold’s laptop, iPad, other personal essentials, and designer purchases were properly packed, making sure nothing was left behind.

Once everything was ready, Frederick took his own laptop and carried it to the small marble table beside the sunlit window. He settled into a chair and spent the next hour reviewing urgent documents, responding to important emails, and making a few calls to his executive team back home.

After finishing his work, he closed the laptop and was about to get up when his cell phone began vibrating on the table.

Eva’s name appeared on the screen.

Frederick stared at it for a moment, wondering why she was calling again. Then it occurred to him that Eva might have already seen the interview that had been released that morning."

He had initially been reluctant to have the recorded interview published, but eventually agreed to let the journalists release it. It wasn’t because he wanted to ruin Eva’s career or get back at her. He simply wanted to clear his name and put an end to the false narrative surrounding their past. During the interview, he had explained their former relationship and made it clear that he hadn’t abandoned Eva or their daughter, as the tabloids had claimed. Eva had been the one who chose to leave him to pursue her modeling career.

The first call went unanswered and eventually ended. Almost immediately, his phone began ringing again.

This time, Frederick answered.

"Hello."

For several seconds, there was nothing but silence on the other end. Then Eva’s voice finally came through, barely above a whisper.

"Frederick..."

She seemed to struggle to say something more, but her voice broke. A choked sob escaped her throat, followed by another. Within moments, she was crying uncontrollably.

Frederick remained silent, waiting for her to say something more. He wanted to hear what she had to say, even though he already knew why she was calling. But before Eva could utter another word, the call abruptly ended.

He lowered the phone and stared at the screen, his brows drawing together.

For a brief moment, he felt a flicker of sympathy. Whatever Eva was going through, she clearly wasn’t handling it well. Still, he couldn’t bring himself to feel responsible for her distress.

He hadn’t insulted her or deliberately tried to damage her career. He had simply told the truth about their past and corrected the impression she had allowed the public to form about him. If she hadn’t portrayed him as a man who abandoned his own family, he wouldn’t have needed to defend himself publicly.

Besides, he was curious to see how Eva would respond to the interview. Would she deny having a daughter to protect her modeling career, or would she finally acknowledge Lily and take responsibility for the choices she’d made? If she genuinely wanted another chance to be part of their daughter’s life, she now had an opportunity to prove it. However, Frederick had no intention of making things easy for her.

This time, he was determined to make sure that Eva understood the consequences of her choices. Whether she would ever get another chance to see Lily would depend entirely on how she handled things from now on.

Frederick placed his phone on the table, pushed the distraction aside, and headed toward the bed to gently wake his baby so they could get ready...
