The thick cable stretched between the two buildings, swaying violently beneath their combined weight while the ground below was littered with the corpses of dead monsters all thanks to Darren who continued killing the little from the other building, and the stench of their rotten bodies hung heavily in the air, making it difficult to breathe.

"Captain Ivy, do you really think what you’re doing right now makes sense?" Desmond asked, his voice carrying a mocking chuckle. "You’re here dragging me with you when you could easily escape alone. The cable might break if you don’t start thinking with your brain."

"Shut up!" Ivy yelled, irritation clear in her voice. "Don’t force me to throw you to the monsters."

"That’s exactly what I mean," Desmond replied, his tone suddenly becoming serious. "Let go of me."

Before Ivy could respond, a violent roar erupted from the building behind them.

A horde of monsters poured onto the upper floors, their claws scraping against the concrete as they rushed toward the narrow bridge connecting the two buildings. Their numbers continued increasing by the second, until the entire passageway seemed to be crawling with monsters.

Then they spotted Ivy and Desmond suspended along the cable.

"Damn it!" Ivy cursed under her breath. "I still believe getting to the other building using the cable is our best option. Running among those monsters on the floor would only get us bitten."

She glanced down at the sea of monsters beneath them and grimaced.

"Besides, fighting them one by one is exhausting enough without having to breathe in that disgusting rotten smell."

"See?" Desmond replied with a scoff. "Are you still going to remain foolish?"

He paused for a moment before adding, "Actually, forget I asked. I’m already convinced you’re foolish. We’re finished."

Ivy ignored him and accelerated along the cable, pulling herself forward with every ounce of strength she had.

However, just as she moved closer to the opposite building, the cable suddenly jerked violently.

Ivy’s entire body lurched.

"What the...?"

Several monsters had reached the cable’s anchor point.

They clawed and slammed against the metal fixture, their combined weight and force putting tremendous pressure on the already damaged structure.

The plaster wall surrounding the metal fixture began to crack.

Ivy’s eyes widened.

The anchor point broke loose while the cable dropped sharply making Ivy and Desmond plunge downward.

"Captain!" Darren yelled from the other building.

He had been killing monsters nonstop, but the sudden movement caught his attention. His head snapped toward them, and his expression changed when he saw Ivy and Desmond falling.

"Captain Ivy!"

Desmond’s scream disappeared beneath the rushing wind as they plummeted toward the first floor.

But Ivy reacted instantly.

She twisted her body in midair and grabbed the cable with both hands. The sudden force nearly tore her shoulders from their sockets, but she refused to let go. She quickly wrapped the cable around one arm before using her legs to hook tightly around it.

The sudden resistance slowed their descent.

Then, finally, it stopped.

For a moment, they simply hung there in midair.

Ivy’s arms trembled from the strain, her fingers gripping the cable so tightly that her knuckles had turned pale.

Far below, monsters crowded the first floor. Their hands stretched desperately upward, their jaws snapping as they tried to reach the two humans dangling above them.

But the danger wasn’t limited to the ground.

More monsters had crawled onto the cable bridge behind them.

One after another, they began moving toward Ivy and Desmond, their claws scraping against the concrete as they closed the distance.

Ivy gritted her teeth and looked around, desperately searching for a way out.

Her breathing had become heavy and uneven.

"We’re trapped," she muttered.

Desmond looked around as well.

His eyes moved from the monsters approaching along the bridge to the horde gathered below them.

Then, suddenly, one of the monsters below lunged upward.

Desmond reacted without thinking.

He wrapped one arm around Ivy, pulling her slightly toward himself and shielding her body unknown to her.

The monster’s jaws snapped shut while it’s teeth sank deeply into Desmond’s arm instead of Ivy’s.

Desmond clenched his teeth tightly, forcing himself to endure the agony as the monster continued gnashing its teeth against his flesh.

Ivy noticed the sudden change in his expression.

She raised an eyebrow.

"What’s wrong?" she asked.

Desmond immediately looked away.

"Aren’t you the chatterbox?" Ivy continued, a faint smirk appearing on her face despite their dangerous situation. "What happened? Are you scared now?"

"Just stop talking to me," Desmond replied immediately, slight annoyance evident in his voice.

His face remained tense as he desperately tried to endure the pain of the monster still biting into his arm.

"I finally stopped talking, so why don’t you enjoy the silence?"

Ivy narrowed her eyes at him.

Something about his reaction seemed strange but before she could question him further, Darren suddenly began pulling the cable from the other building.

He planted his feet firmly against the ground and grabbed the cable with both hands, using all his strength to drag it toward himself.

"Come on!" Darren grunted.

The cable moved slightly.

The monsters on the bridge snarled and accelerated toward Ivy and Desmond.

Darren pulled harder.

His arms trembled from the strain, but he refused to stop.

He knew that if he let go, Ivy and Desmond would fall straight into the horde below.

"Captain!" Darren shouted. "Hold on! I’m pulling you toward the building!"

Ivy tightened her grip on the cable.

"Keep pulling!" she yelled back.

Darren gritted his teeth and continued pulling.

However, the approaching monsters were getting closer.
