Apocalypse: My SSS Ability Changes Every Few Days
Chapter 99: Ambush?
Bernard’s gang isn’t as big as the other gangs in the city.
There were only about sixty of them in the gang compared to the other gangs nearby that number in the hundreds.
With the disadvantage in the number of gang members and Awakened he had, he avoided getting into battle with the other gangs for kills.
Even when the rewards promised by Lieutenant Langley were enticing enough.
It would be suicide for him and his gang members if he tried.
But that also meant that with the rewards promised by Lieutenant Langley his gang was also the prime target for the other gangs.
He had to make sure that he would be able to kill those inside the car and retreat very quickly before the other gangs caught up to him and his gang.
"You over there, get the trap ready! And you over there, don’t move until I tell you to." Bernard pointed at his men who were scurrying around, trying to get into position.
He kept his binoculars and prayed that the ten over Awakened inside his gang were enough to take down all of the men inside the car.
With so many Awakened on his side compared to Alex and his three friends inside the car, he figured that his prayers weren’t necessarily required.
But for the sake of formalities, he muttered a prayer in silence before he got into his position.
...
The car that Alex and his friends were in slowly approached the city.
There weren’t any signs of anyone anywhere.
Streets were deserted, rubbish and items like books, coffee cups, and bags were strewn around.
Spots where blood was spilled were now darkened.
The bustling streets had turned into deserted streets, far from what it used to be.
However, Alex, who was on full alert, wasn’t fooled by the sight.
He sensed Bernard and his gang hiding in cover waiting for their car to get near.
"There are around sixty men and women hiding in the buildings and behind the barriers waiting for us to get close." Alex put his hand above the dashboard and pointed subtly in the directions where Bernard and his men were.
"Sixty? So, what do we do?" Terry frowned and asked.
"Don’t worry, we have numbers too." Alex said with a shrug.
Terry moved a little in his seat when he thought about the dead bodies of the men and mutated beasts earlier.
"Well, if you put it that way..."
"Slow down the car.
"Riley, take care of those on the left side, and Brian, take care of those on the right.
"Go take care of those that will come out of their hiding place from behind, Terry.
"I will take care of those at the front."
Alex figured that the leader must be observing from the tallest building here in the street, which incidentally was at the front.
He thought about getting the bodies of Awakened for his Necromancer ability and said, "Try to keep the bodies of the Awakened intact if possible, but don’t risk your lives for it."
Terry gave him a weird look but he ignored it.
Riley and Brian also weren’t too sure if they could do what he requested safely.
"Don’t worry too much." Alex said.
His friends haven’t realized how powerful they were at the moment, compared to the other Awakened.
The car slowed down and it made Bernard anxious.
Why are they slowing down?
Have they found out that we are in an ambush?
But how is that possible?
Many thoughts went through Bernard’s mind as he watched the car slowly getting to a complete halt through his binoculars.
"Should I get the men to make the move?" One of his men standing beside Bernard asked.
Bernard wasn’t too sure and he glanced around with his binoculars.
He saw something at the rear of his men.
It looked like a portal and there were two more of them at two other locations of his hiding spots.
He frowned and knew that it spelt trouble.
Then, all of a sudden, men who were bloodied with pale faces rushed out from the portals and lunged at his men.
They grabbed onto his men from behind and bit onto his men’s face and neck.
"Argh!"
"Help me!"
"Get off me! You bastard!"
His men struggled to break free but couldn’t.
Their punches and kicks that landed on these pale looking men had no effect.
Even when they opened fire on these pale looking men, the same thing happened.
Others tried to rush in and help but they were met with mutated beasts that seemed to work together with these pale looking men.
"Fuck!"
Blood spilled as the mutated beasts wreaked havoc on Bernard’s men.
Their movements were coordinated, unlike those mutated beasts they’ve encountered before when the apocalypse just started.
"Where are all the Awakened! Do your job!" Bernard shouted anxiously.
If his men were all killed, he would have to survive out here alone.
Which wasn’t a great prospect for him to look forward to.
His men who were Awakened quickly got out from their hiding place.
It was the moment that Alex was waiting for.
"Let’s go." Alex said and his friends got out from the car.
Immediately, they lunged in the directions that they were instructed to take care of earlier.
Alex wasted no time and he headed straight towards the direction of Bernard.
His shout was heard by Alex and it allowed Alex to pinpoint where he was.
Alex lunged at a group of men that were streaming out from a door.
His movement was too fast for them to even react when he took one down with a jab to the person’s rib.
The impact was so great that the person was hurled into the air and landed at a distance that was thirty meters away from where he was.
Alex frowned and reminded himself to restrain even more than what he had done.
"Die, you fucker!" Two of the men came at him with flames in their hands.
