Along the way, the townsfolk glanced warily out of the window of the bus.

It had been a long time since they had left the town and traveled so far out of it to another destination.

Most of their previous attempts had been stopped by the hordes of mutated beasts that got in their way.

The journey to the hydroelectric dam felt surreal to them as they saw the scenery on the side of the road passing by.

Slowly, it even felt as if they were on a long-distance bus ride like it was back in the day.

They were gently reminded that it wasn’t the case when the convoy encountered some mutated beasts.

Thankfully, it was nothing that Alex and his friends couldn’t take care of.

After clearing the mutated beasts, the convoy started moving again.

Once they got to the fields where Patricia and her team were working hard, the eyes of the townsfolk gleamed.

Food.

That was what they thought when they saw the different types of grain that were in the fields.

It astonished them even more when they saw Patricia walk up to a crop and hold her hands in front of it, and the crop grew taller in an instant, right in front of their eyes.

"What the hell..."

"I can’t believe it."

"Thank god that we have the chance to come over."

The townsfolk were grateful for the chance to meet Alex and his friends.

They knew that their lives in the hydroelectric dam wouldn’t be the same anymore, with what they had witnessed.

And they were more than willing to put in all the hard work to be able to get food and water to survive.

"Welcome back." Eddy and the others were at the car park when the buses and the car of Alex and his friends stopped.

Alex stepped out of the car and gave him a nod.

"I have gotten some folks that are willing to stay and contribute to our operations.

"Assign lodging and their duties after they’ve settled in."

"I will get it done." Eddy nodded his head at Alex and said.

He glanced over at Norton and the townsfolk, who were glancing around at the surroundings.

The atmosphere in the hydroelectric dam was far more relaxed than it was in their town, and they felt relieved by it.

Some of the students chilled and some were even playing basketball to pass the time.

The students were also much better fed than they were, with their rosy, healthy look compared to the pale faces.

"Come with me to the dining area for a meal." Eddy said to Norton and the others, and he led them over to the dining area.

Norton glanced over at Alex while he was leaving, but Alex gave him a nod with a smile, gesturing to him that there wasn’t any need for any thanks.

When he saw this, Norton gave Alex a smile back and quickly caught up to the townsfolk.

"I’m starving too." Terry stretched out his arms and gave out a yawn.

"Go back to the room and rest first, I’ve got other things to take care of." Alex shook his head at Terry and said.

"You know where we are when you are done." Riley shrugged at him and they walked back towards where their room was.

Alex turned and headed to the research lab of Teresa.

"You have something for me?" Teresa asked when she saw Alex approaching.

Alex nodded his head and said, "Yes. In fact, I have a lot for you."

He walked over to the empty area that was still available in the research lab and he waved his hands across.

Research devices and equipment from the research lab in the command center appeared out of nowhere.

"Where did you get these?" Teresa recognized the devices and she knew that they were the best and weren’t available to normal labs.

"I got these at Fort Ramsey, that’s where they were doing their research.

"There wasn’t time for me to dismantle them with care so I hope that they would still be useful to you." Alex said with a sigh.

Then, he pointed at some of the tissue from the Stage V mutated beast and said, "This is the tissue from the Stage V mutated beast, they might be able to help with your research too."

"That’s great." Teresa glanced at the tissue and her researchers quickly came over to handle the tissue with care.

The others also came over to take care of the devices to see if they were able to salvage them.

Alex got busy on his own while they were doing so.

He brought out the other equipment from the command center including the bodies of General Xavier and his men.

At first there wasn’t much, with most of the information being stored electronically.

It wasn’t until he got to the desk of General Xavier that he found something useful.

There was a folder with some documents in it and he started reading them.

Alex frowned as he read the documents.

The frown slowly turned deeper as rage rose within him when he read about what the authorities and the rich folks wanted to do.

They were trying to become immortal with the mutagen if their research succeeded.

And with most of the population being decimated by the mutated beasts, it would be a new earth for them to inherit when they got the final version of the mutagen done.

If they succeeded, they would not only be immortal but also be impossible to kill and destroy.

After injecting their final version of the mutagen, they would be able to gain abilities that were far beyond any SSS Level ability.

And they would regenerate even if there was only a drop of blood left for them.

General Xavier even had a note questioning if the original mutagen had been released by the rich folks to kick-start the whole thing.

Alex cursed and he knew that he had to get rid of the rich folks before they were able to succeed with the research.

He searched through the desk but couldn’t find anything.

So, he went on and rummaged through the clothes of General Xavier to see if there was something that could help.
