Eddy and the others arrived.

Alex let them in and he began to brief them on what had happened in the city while they ate.

"So, we will have to get ready and be prepared for any attacks..." He said and the others frowned at what they heard.

They weren’t sure if they could survive the bombing and all the firepower from the authorities if it came to that.

So far, they hadn’t yet encountered the heavy firepower from the authorities, like airstrikes or the tank brigades.

They knew what the authorities were capable of and they didn’t fancy their chances that much, even with what they had created so far in the hydroelectric dam.

When he saw their worries and long faces, Alex put down his fork and said, "That’s why I don’t intend to sit around and wait for them to come."

He turned over to Riley and asked, "How much do you know about Fort Ramsey?"

Riley munched on the piece of steak he had in his mouth and swallowed it.

After a moment, he glanced at Alex and said, "It’s rumored to be the most advanced and high-tech fort that deals with all the different sorts of research.

"The fort above is just a decoy and the real facilities are built underneath the granite stones to guard against airstrikes."

Alex thought about it and said, "We might have to think of a way to sneak into it."

He had an idea that involved Lieutenant Langley and his Echo Resonant ability.

Terry frowned and asked, "Would it be too risky to do so?"

"We have no choice. Better for us to strike first when they least expect it than to sit around and be sitting ducks." Alex shrugged and said with a sigh.

"Fine, I guess." Terry shrugged and said.

Riley and Brian also thought the same.

They would always go with Alex’s decision.

But having said that, Alex glanced at Eddy and said, "In the meantime, we still have to make preparations.

"Come up with a plan for defense and evacuation, just in case.

"We will start to scout our way to Fort Ramsey tomorrow."

Fort Ramsey was a few hundred kilometers away from where they were, so it would be necessary to find a way there that would be safe and undetectable.

"I will also dispense the resources that we have gotten tomorrow.

"It’s nothing much, mostly equipment, paper and other stuff." Alex said and Eddy and the others nodded their heads.

They left the room to get to work immediately on the defense and evacuation plan.

Alex and his friends enjoyed their dinner in peace together.

But he didn’t get to rest when he was done.

Alex headed towards the research lab of Teresa and her team immediately.

He was eager to hand over the syringe he had collected from Lieutenant Langley and his men earlier on.

Teresa and her team were still hard at work when he arrived at the research lab.

The devices were humming or beeping while they worked.

"A little too late for a visit?" Teresa came over and said when she saw him.

Alex told her what had happened in his encounter with Lieutenant Langley and his men.

He even let them out of his storage portal to see if they were useful to Teresa.

Teresa and her team made observations on Lieutenant Langley, took some tissue samples from them and recorded down whatever he said.

"Here." Alex handed over the syringe he had gotten and Teresa took it.

"I will try my best to see if they’ve advanced in their research." She said and handed the syringe over to Alice.

She pointed at one of the devices that was beeping and said, "That machine is running one of the most crucial experiments so far, and if it succeeds, I might be on to something.

"The tissues of the Stage IV mutated beast that you’ve brought back gave me an idea.

"So it helped a lot."

Alex was glad to hear some positive news after such a long day.

His eyes gleamed and he said, "That’s great! I’ll keep a lookout when we go out tomorrow."

"The test should finish after tomorrow and we shall know the results.

"My team will see if the content in the syringe could also help with the experiments." Teresa said and he bid her farewell to call it a day.

When he got back to his room, he saw that the place was tidied up.

The rubbish was cleared and the bedsheets were like brand new.

After working so hard, it felt good to know that he was well taken care of.

...

Meanwhile, inside Fort Ramsey.

General Xavier was in the command center where there was a huge map projected on the screen.

There were real-time updates to the map depicting which areas had been cleared and were ready to be taken over by the authorities.

But he had a deep frown on his face as things weren’t going as well as he had expected.

Many of his men had encountered mutated beasts that were far beyond what they’d seen so far.

Some were said to be as tall as a hundred meters.

And they were accompanied by mutated beasts that were equally as powerful.

"Damn all those rich fuckers!" He cursed as he saw another portion of the map turning red, indicating that contact was lost with his men.

They were out here doing the dirty work while those rich men and women were enjoying life in their doomsday bunker, waiting to emerge and inherit a new earth with a new order.

"General, we lost contact with Lieutenant Langley too. All is lost in Ebony City." One of his men said and General Xavier crossed his arms.

"Those giant mutated beasts again?" General Xavier asked.

His man shook his head and said, "No, it was some unknown Awakened who took out most of the gangs and Lieutenant Langley and his men."

"Unknown Awakened? Get someone to go and check. Prepare the survey on the hydroelectric dam as soon as possible." General Xavier said and he narrowed his eyes.

He had a hunch that it had something to do with the person who stole all of his supplies in the quarantine area previously.
