Apocalypse: I'm Bound to a Mobile Lottery Shop
Chapter 454: Withstanding the Attack
Chapter 454: Chapter 454: Withstanding the Attack
Easton and the other kids froze, blinking as they watched. They had no choice but to stay obediently in the RV and see them off.
As more and more familiar faces appeared on the white circular platform, Lily Hart stopped swaying and suddenly remembered something.
’Isn’t it dinnertime?’
So why was everyone just hanging around here? They all seemed so absorbed.
Eyes slightly closed, not disturbing one another, they swayed to the music, each with their own style.
Roman Rowe, for example, was a frenzied dancer, stomping as if he wouldn’t be satisfied until he’d smashed the white platform to pieces.
Frost Shaw, on the other hand, was more peaceful and relaxed, enjoying himself. The alternating lights flickered across his well-defined features, making him look exceptionally handsome.
Lily Hart patted her stomach. She didn’t feel very hungry, so she walked straight behind the bar.
She pulled out a booklet on how to mix drinks and started messing around with it on her own.
After mixing a multicolored drink, Lily Hart frowned and stared at it for a long time. ’Is this even drinkable?’
’Well, it won’t kill me.’
Lily Hart reassured herself, then tilted her head back and took a big gulp.
She smacked her lips. It was surprisingly good—sweet with a bit of fizziness, and not too strong.
It wasn’t bitter like beer. Smacking her lips again and again, she finished the entire glass.
Leo Colby happened to see this and was reminded of what happened every time she drank.
After a moment’s thought, he walked over to her. Their eyes met across the bar.
Sure enough, her eyes were already hazy. Leo Colby frowned and reached out to steady her by the shoulders.
Lily Hart’s eyes fluttered shut, and she slumped onto the bar, fast asleep.
Leo Colby picked up the glass beside her hand, sniffed it, and drank the last mouthful.
It didn’t taste very strong. It was just that Lily Hart couldn’t hold her liquor at all.
Seeing that she was lying on the bar and wouldn’t fall to the floor for the time being, he walked around to the back of the bar and went to her side.
He took the back of her hand and shook it gently a couple of times. Lily Hart didn’t react at all.
"Lily?" Leo Colby called out helplessly. He straightened up and gazed at her profile as she lay on the bar.
Her face had smooth lines, a high-bridged nose, and her lips were pursed. Her eyelashes trembled faintly, like a butterfly about to take flight.
Just as Leo Colby was about to help her up, he felt a surge of energy within him.
Suddenly, numerous small white specks of light appeared, flying around him as if to protect him.
Leo Colby was puzzled. He reached out to touch one of the specks of light.
The moment he touched it, it transformed into countless tiny particles of dust and dissipated into the air.
He subconsciously used his superpower to shock the small specks of light, but the result was the same as before.
They dissipated into the air.
’Could it be because of the drink I just had? Then why is nothing happening to Lily?’
Frost Shaw noticed Lily Hart was no longer on the circular platform. He instinctively searched for her, his gaze falling upon the bar bathed in flashing purple, blue, and red lights.
Countless white specks of light were swirling over by the bar, which made the area stand out.
’Is that Leo Colby and a slumped-over Lily Hart?’ Frost Shaw squinted, barely able to make them out.
Without a second thought, he hopped off the platform and strode over.
Before he even got close, Frost Shaw asked, "What happened to Lily?"
Leo Colby pointed to the glass and shrugged. "She had a drink."
Frost Shaw felt his vision darken. ’I look away for one second and this girl starts drinking again.’
He then asked, confused, "What are these little specks of light?"
Leo Colby shook his head. "I don’t know. They appeared after I had the drink." He seemed to remember something and said, "Try attacking me."
’I have a feeling these little specks are useful, but I’m not sure for what. I have to test it.’
Frost Shaw’s attention was diverted. Although he didn’t understand, he decided to do as he was told.
He raised his hand and waved it forward gently, sending several ice blades flying toward Leo Colby.
Just as the ice blades were about to reach Leo Colby, the specks of light seemed to sense them.
They immediately gathered together, transforming into a shield to block the ice blades.
The moment the two collided, the specks of light dissipated into the air, and the ice blades were neutralized.
Their eyes met, and they both saw a flash of amazement in the other’s gaze.
Leo Colby ventured a guess, "A one-time defense?"
Frost Shaw nodded. "Very likely." He wanted to try again, but all the specks of light had disappeared.
He couldn’t test it even if he wanted to.
Leo Colby looked around, wanting another sip of the drink he’d had earlier, but there was none left.
He had just drunk the last of it. He wanted to mix another glass of the same thing, but he wasn’t Lily Hart—he didn’t know how!
Frost Shaw walked behind the bar, glanced at Lily Hart, and noticed she was lying on top of some kind of book.
He pulled it out and saw it was a complete guide to bartending.
He raised an eyebrow at Leo Colby, and the two immediately put their heads together to study it.
The page it was open to was the one Lily Hart had just been looking at. The drink taught on this page was the very one she had just mixed.
The two of them rolled up their sleeves and got right to it, completely forgetting about Lily Hart sleeping on the bar.
If these drinks truly had such a miraculous effect, it would be a massive boon for humanity.
The tools were all there. Lily Hart had just used them, and they were still sitting neatly on the bar.
The two of them followed the steps on the page, proceeding one by one.
The music in the bar was deafening, but it didn’t affect their concentration in the slightest.
Stan Sterling stopped swaying. He felt a little tired from dancing and needed a break.
He saw Frost Shaw and Leo Colby behind the bar, their expressions serious and focused, holding glasses and long, thin spoons.
It looked like they were conducting some sort of rigorous, meticulous experiment.
Curious, Stan Sterling walked over, but seeing how focused they were, he didn’t interrupt.
Only when he got closer did he realize Lily Hart was there, slumped on the bar and snoring softly.
He couldn’t help but chuckle. He took a thin blanket from his dimensional space and draped it over her.
’Strange. Isn’t Frost Shaw usually the one most attentive to Lily? How could he not even notice a small detail like this?’
’Or... has something more important caught his attention?’
After covering her with the blanket, Stan Sterling began to wander around behind the bar on his own.
Stan Sterling did a quick scan. There were at least a few hundred types of liquor on the shelves, a dizzying array.
By the time he’d mostly finished looking around, Frost Shaw and Leo Colby’s "experiment" was finally complete.
The two of them looked at the multicolored drink, feeling a bit doubtful. ’Is it really supposed to look like this?’
’Is it really drinkable?’
They looked back at the bartending guide. There were no pictures, only written steps.
Neither of them knew what the final product was supposed to look like, but who cared? It was all liquor; mixing it together should be fine.
So, they each took a glass, exchanged a look, and with a shared understanding, clinked their glasses and took a big gulp.
After drinking, the two waited quietly. Stan Sterling remained silent, watching from the side.
His index finger tapped lightly on the countertop along with the music, his mind gradually going blank, not thinking about anything in particular.
After a good while, white specks of light appeared around both of them, floating energetically like fireflies.
Frost Shaw’s eyes lit up. "It worked?"
Leo Colby said cautiously, "Try attacking me."
"Alright," Frost Shaw agreed. He raised his hand, waved it again, and launched several slender ice blades at Leo Colby.
’Oof, those are sharp.’ Stan Sterling winced just watching them, feeling as if they were about to pierce his own body.
But miraculously, the white specks of light gathered in front of Leo Colby.
