Apocalypse: I Built a City of Sin
Apocalypse — Chapter 82: A Female Vampire?
Xiao Yi examined the mutant. Her gaze was dull, and her pupils were an eerie green.
“Our research suggests that her intelligence remains at the level of a five- or six-year-old child,” Xia Xuan explained professionally. “She eats almost no ordinary food and prefers fresh blood. Her physical abilities and regenerative capacity are both extremely powerful.”
“She likes blood?” Xiao Yi frowned. “So she resembles a vampire in both appearance and behavior.”
“We classify her as a Vampire-Type Mutant,” Xia Xuan said, glancing fearfully at him. “We also discovered that mutants come in multiple types, each with unique characteristics.”
“The Crown Prince Gang once found a mutant with cat ears.”
Ma Chenbin had told Xiao Yi the same thing, making him even more satisfied with Xia Xuan’s honesty.
“Will this mutant hurt people?”
“Not now. She may once have attacked humans, but she has become afraid of them.” Seeing his questioning look, Xia Xuan continued, “She was terrified when captured. During the experiments, they repeatedly shocked and beat her, so she now fears humans.”
Xiao Yi nodded and pointed at the two confined zombies.
“What about them?”
“Failed experiments,” Xia Xuan answered bluntly. “We injected them with the mutant’s serum, then with the zombie virus. It failed. Mutant serum cannot resist infection.”
Once he understood enough, Xiao Yi lifted the mutant’s cage.
“Bring the other woman. You’re both coming to my shelter. Follow my rules and work properly for me, and I’ll guarantee your safety and basic needs.”
“What about the laboratory equipment?” Xia Xuan asked reluctantly, looking around at the devices they had struggled to acquire.
“I told you—I don’t want to save anyone.”
“I like this apocalypse.”
Carrying the cage, Xiao Yi walked out.
Xia Xuan stared after him, conflicting emotions filling her heart.
“Is he a selfish demon? But... at least he’s better than those hypocrites.”
It was already evening by the time Xiao Yi loaded the mutant and two female doctors into the vehicle.
His watch showed seven thirty.
He took out food and shared it with the doctors, then offered some to the mutant.
She was wary at first, but after tilting her head and watching him for a while, she slowly approached.
“I... I want... blood...”
Surprised that she could speak, Xiao Yi asked, “What’s your name?”
“My... name? Who am I?”
She immediately fell into confusion again.
Xiao Yi shook his head and left her in Xia Xuan’s care.
Then he drove the Slaughterer Armored Vehicle directly toward Villa 026.
The people there were all relatively young and had dealings with the Crown Prince Gang.
According to the alternatively dressed heiress, they might possess guns. They were also rebellious and aggressive.
Xiao Yi parked the armored vehicle far away and approached on foot. Driving directly to the villa would attract too much attention, and he did not intend to reveal himself before understanding their strength and intentions.
As he drew closer, he heard rock music mixed with increasingly loud zombie growls.
A large horde had gathered outside Villa 026’s iron gate, while the villa itself was brilliantly lit and blasting music.
Were they deliberately attracting zombies?
Did they think they had lived too long?
Xiao Yi almost admired such creative recklessness.
He crept closer.
Villa 026 differed dramatically from the others. Calling it a fortress would be more accurate.
Steel plates covered the windows. The surrounding fence had been raised and reinforced, with sharpened pipes projecting outward. Cameras covered every direction without a single blind spot.
Several zombies had been impaled upright on pipes outside the fence, creating a terrifying display.
“Are they trying to frighten the zombies?”
It reminded Xiao Yi of Vlad the Impaler, who displayed impaled prisoners to terrify his enemies.
But zombies possessed neither emotion nor fear.
These people were clearly suffering from heroic delusions.
Several modified vehicles were parked tight against the outer fence, allowing quick boarding while also blocking zombies from reaching the wall.
Most were off-road vehicles, though there was also a modified concrete mixer like those Xiao Yi had seen earlier and even an RV.
Solar panels covered the RV, and steel plates had been welded across its windows and body. Its owners had obviously invested enormous effort in it.
As Xiao Yi prepared to move closer, an SUV inside the fence suddenly switched on its headlights and roof-mounted light bar.
The dazzling beams illuminated the gate like daylight, while the vehicle’s stereo blasted heavy-metal music.
Stimulated by the noise, the zombies surged madly toward the gate.
“Hrrr...”
“Ughhh...”
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
“Kill!”
Three young men wearing headbands charged forward with homemade spears more than two meters long.
THUD!
THUD!
THUD!
They thrust through the bars and instantly destroyed the front row of zombie heads.
“Wow! You’re incredible! So handsome!”
“Kill those idiots! Send them to hell!”
“Long live the Spear Assault Team!”
Three adult women in motorcycle gear waved a flag and cheered.
The young men roared and thrust again, destroying another row.
They attacked quickly, but the zombies arrived even faster.
