Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 383 Selection Game 13
The absorption rate would actually be even faster if she had included the Dodder Seed and the Abyssal Roots, but even knowing that, she had still chosen not to.
The reason was simple. The Seed of Life condensed Life Force into individual Life Fruits, which could be used for healing and other purposes. However, the power absorbed by the Dodder Seed and Abyssal Roots would have entered her body directly.
Although she knew this power had been filtered and was very clean, Perry Yates still found it a bit repulsive. She was so grossed out that she didn’t even want the ripened Life Essence Fruits that had fallen to the ground.
Twenty minutes later, the last Executor was finally drained dry.
However, the place where they were was now almost completely destroyed, with nothing but rubble and ruins everywhere. Even if they cleaned it up, they had no intention of staying, as the air had been polluted.
Before leaving, Perry Yates pointed at the Life Essence Fruits on the ground and said, "Whoever has a Space Backpack, gather these up. They’re great for healing."
Hearing that the fruits on the ground were good for healing, everyone immediately grew excited.
To test the fruit’s effect, one person bent down, picked one up from the ground, wiped it casually on their clothes, and popped it into their mouth.
He chewed a couple of times and swallowed. The next second, something miraculous happened—all the wounds on his body healed completely.
After seeing the effect of the Life Essence Fruits, everyone began frantically gathering the fruits that had fallen on the ground, not even sparing the unripe ones. Everyone except for Perry Yates, of course.
Amber Sheridan saw that Perry Yates had no intention of moving and couldn’t help but ask curiously, "You’re just giving away such a great thing? That doesn’t seem like your style."
Based on Perry Yates’s online persona, even if she didn’t want them for herself, she would have sold them for a profit.
"Well, I didn’t bring a space item in here, and the system backpack can’t hold that many, so I might as well not bother. Besides..."
Perry Yates trailed off, glancing at the desiccated skin of an Executor that had been drained dry not far away. Amber Sheridan and the few others who hadn’t moved to collect the fruit exchanged looks of understanding.
They then looked over at the people scrambling for the fruits, some of whom were stuffing the Life Essence Fruits directly into their mouths, and couldn’t help but feel a little nauseous.
Once everyone had finished picking up all the Life Essence Fruits, the large group finally departed.
Perhaps it was because so many Executors had just been killed that the new ones hadn’t had time to react. In any case, their journey was peaceful, and they didn’t encounter any other Executors blocking their path.
Perry Yates glanced at the mission progress. It had reached fifty-five percent, which meant that half of the Executors in this game were now dead.
’If we could pull off a few more group attacks like that last one, we could probably finish this mission and get out of here soon.’
Now Perry Yates was thinking about what she could do with this game once it fully materialized.
Perry Yates thought about it for a long time but couldn’t come up with any good ideas. She decided to stop wracking her brain over it. ’I’ll just leave this kind of thing to the professionals.’
Just then, Dylan Adler walked over, a stack of papers in his hand and an excited expression on his face.
The other Croupiers nearby looked at Dylan Adler, and many of them had puzzled expressions.
They had, of course, noticed that while they were all Croupiers, there were differences between them.
Those people were keeping secrets from them, and though they wanted to find out what those secrets were, they had no way to do so. All they could do was watch helplessly.
Perry Yates looked at the contracts Dylan Adler had brought over, casually flipping through them. "Are these contracts all good?"
Dylan Adler nodded. "I’ve gone through them all. They’re fine, you can sign them without worry."
Perry Yates picked up a pen and, with a few quick strokes, signed her name on the contracts. As the contracts vanished, their terms officially took effect.
Watching the contracts disappear, Dylan Adler let out a sigh of relief. He looked up at the blood-red sky and remarked with a sigh, "I wonder when these days of not being in control of our own lives will ever end."
"You can ask the Knowledge Crystal that question when you get back. You’ll probably get an answer," Perry Yates said.
The premise of the Knowledge Crystal was that it could answer any question, so it should be able to provide an answer.
Hearing Perry Yates say this, Dylan Adler actually nodded. "But I heard you have to wait in line to use the Knowledge Crystal. Can I cut?"
"No. Even the boss can’t break the rules and play favorites. But if you want to cut the line, you can buy a spot from a scalper."
Although Perry Yates didn’t use the Knowledge Crystal often herself, that did nothing to diminish its popularity at The Card Tavern. Every day, lots of people lined up to ask it questions about topics including, but not limited to, the game, love, and fortune.
A perfectly good five-star card was being used as a fortune-telling booth.
The funniest thing was, she was passing by once when a strangely dressed woman walked up to where the Knowledge Crystal was placed, and screeched at it in a shrill voice, "Magic Mirror, Magic Mirror on the wall, who’s the most beautiful woman of them all?"
In that moment, Perry Yates could feel the Knowledge Crystal’s speechlessness. Then, it decisively displayed the face of the hottest young male celebrity in the entertainment industry. Mmm, that’s right. The most beautiful woman was a man.
Because so many people wanted to consult the Knowledge Crystal each day, there was always a line. And as everyone knows, whenever something becomes so popular that you have to line up for it, scalpers are born.
After their break ended, the group set out again. Eventually, they found a location that was easy to defend and hard to attack to serve as their temporary base, and they began to build a new fortress.
Perry Yates used her Moon Blade to shave all the irregular stones into uniform shapes. Walls built with such stones would have no gaps and be much sturdier.
With Perry Yates’s help, their construction of the fortifications went significantly faster this time.
Meanwhile, on the other side, the remaining Executors began to gather rapidly under a compulsory order. Just then, a crack appeared in the sky. It began to expand, and a figure wearing a black robe and a plague doctor’s mask stepped out from within.
If Perry Yates had been there, she would have immediately recognized this as the person who had taken the Any Door.
Upon seeing the black-robed figure, the other Executors instantly bowed their heads. The one in the lead respectfully called out, "This subordinate greets you, Lord Executor!"
