Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 662 - 652: Hello 10
Four figures streaked across the gray, hazy sky.
These four figures were Moira Lynch and her three companions. Hot on their heels were two creatures that looked remarkably similar to Ventusaurs, relentlessly pursuing them.
"Song, don’t those two big guys behind us have any weaknesses?" Shane Rhodes asked.
As he spoke, he periodically shot bolts of lightning behind them, but the two massive creatures swiftly dodged every one.
Even on the rare occasion they couldn’t evade in time, the lightning strikes had no effect on them.
Carole Underwood huddled in Shane’s arms. When she occasionally peeked up, she would see the two giant beasts chasing them and would quickly shrink back in fear.
"I only know their name is Aetherwing. They’re incredibly fierce and rare beasts. Oh, right! Their wings! If we can destroy their wings, they’ll lose the ability to fly."
"Their wings, huh?"
Moira Lynch shot Shane a look, signaling for him to take Carole and get away. She then deliberately slowed down, luring the two Aetherwings in another direction.
Once Shane and the others were completely out of sight, Moira Lynch stopped fleeing. With a raise of her hand, she completely froze the space around her.
This was the ability she had comprehended after breaking through to level five: Space Imprisonment.
The two Aetherwings were firmly trapped in mid-air, unable to move a muscle.
’Go on and dodge. Can’t dodge now, can you?’
Moira Lynch smirked as she killed both Aetherwings, then temporarily stored their corpses in the Subspace she had just opened.
After finishing all this, she set off in the direction Shane and the others had gone.
Meanwhile, the rest of the group, having finally escaped the pursuit, stopped running and landed on the ground.
"Why are you crying again?"
Shane Rhodes set Carole Underwood down from his arms, only to see her tear-streaked face.
"I’m sorry," Carole Underwood said, her voice choked with sobs. "I’m sorry, it’s all my fault for being so useless. If I were a little stronger, Moira Lynch wouldn’t have had to sacrifice herself to lure away those two Aetherwings."
After hearing her out, Shane and the others finally understood why she was crying. ’So that’s what this is about.’
With Moira Lynch’s ability, she’d be fine even if the rest of them died, but that wasn’t something you could just come out and say.
Just then, Moira Lynch returned.
"Alright, stop crying. Isn’t that Moira coming back right now?" Hugh Finch said, pointing to a figure flying toward them in the distance.
As he finished speaking, Moira Lynch arrived. Seeing Carole Underwood’s tear-stained face, she shot a look of reproach at Shane and the other two men.
"Well, hello there."
Just then, a deep voice sounded from nearby.
The phrase "Well, hello there" was just one word different from a simple "Hello there," and for someone to suddenly appear in this desolate wilderness... no matter how you looked at it, something was wrong.
Moira Lynch and the others looked warily in the direction of the voice.
They wouldn’t have known if they hadn’t looked, but one glance was enough to give them a fright.
Just a few dozen meters away, a man dressed in black was standing there. They had no idea when he’d appeared.
He was dressed in black, but on closer inspection, they realized his clothes were actually composed of a dense swarm of insects, which were even writhing.
It wasn’t just his clothes—even the man himself was made of bugs.
"AHHH—!"
Carole Underwood, seeing this horrifying scene, let out a terrified scream, but halfway through it, Moira Lynch knocked her unconscious with a chop to the neck.
She tossed the unconscious Carole to Shane. "Take care of her."
"Oh, okay."
Shane caught Carole, but his gaze was fixed on Moira. If he remembered correctly, Moira Lynch hated bugs more than anything, especially the kind without legs.
The monster made of bugs a short distance away was basically pushing all of Moira’s buttons.
Meanwhile, the bug monster, apparently seeing that its greeting had received no response, had its expression twist into a mask of fury.
"Why? Why won’t you greet me back?! You impolite creatures! Become my food!"
With the monster’s roar, its body instantly disintegrated into countless small insects that surged toward Moira Lynch and the others, a swarm so vast it blotted out the sky like a black cloud.
However, just as the insects came within five meters of the group, a black flame appeared out of thin air, instantly incinerating them all to ash.
To the Destruction flame, these bugs seemed to be the perfect fuel; it didn’t even require any extra control from Moira Lynch.
After just one minute, the sky-blotting swarm of insects was completely burned away, not a single one left. Only the black scorch marks on the ground proved they had ever existed.
Unlike the last time she’d killed a monster, after all the bugs were incinerated, a deep purple bead was left floating in mid-air where the monster had been standing.
"What is that thing?"
Kai York noticed the bead and was about to step forward to investigate, but Moira Lynch stopped him.
"Don’t go near it. I have a bad feeling about it."
Moira Lynch could sense that the bead contained an immense and active power.
’According to the tropes in novels and TV shows, in a situation like this, anyone who gets close is likely to fall into a trap—get possessed by the bead or something.’
As she thought this, something suddenly occurred to her. She took the item, the Super delicious orange, out of her Space Button.
"Go! I choose you!"
She tossed the Super delicious orange forward, and it instantly devoured the deep purple bead.
The next second, the orange’s body began to swell rapidly to several times its original size. Its golden-yellow skin turned a deep purple, making it look as if it had been poisoned.
Seeing this, Moira Lynch couldn’t help but worry. ’Did something actually go wrong?’
Fortunately, it wasn’t long before, with a "PFFT," the Super delicious orange expelled a cloud of black, foul-smelling gas from its body.
As the foul gas was expelled, its skin returned to normal.
"Did it just let out a... *retch*—"
Before Kai York could finish his sentence, he bent over and started to dry heave. At the same time, Moira Lynch, Shane Rhodes, and Hugh Finch did the same, all doubling over and retching.
After the second game ended, Moira Lynch had lent the Super delicious orange to the others to help them absorb Crystal Cores of different Attributes.
Because of that, the Super delicious orange had established a connection with all four of them.
Normally, the power would be fed back to whoever held the orange. But unfortunately, the energy from the bead was too immense for any single person to bear, so the Super delicious orange simply divided it equally among the four of them.
So their current state was entirely because... they were stuffed.
"*Retch...*"
