Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 660: Hello 8
In a vast, empty wasteland that stretched as far as the eye could see, Moira Lynch sat still. In front of her burned a ball of black fire.
Moira Lynch’s gaze fell upon the flames, meeting a pair of eyes filled with loathing.
But beyond the loathing, Moira Lynch read something else in those eyes—jealousy, more than anything.
‘Jealousy? Why jealousy?’
‘I killed his companion. Shouldn’t there be more hatred?’
Moira Lynch couldn’t quite figure it out.
‘Forget it. Why should I care why he’s jealous? I’ll just burn them all on sight from now on.’
Once the flames had died out completely, Moira Lynch dusted off her hands, stood up, and left.
Before leaving, she glanced at the Intelligent Brain to confirm the others’ current locations.
[Kai York: (`´) Damn it! I was almost ambushed by those monsters.]
[Hugh Finch: I was attacked over here too, but I managed to dodge it. These monsters have an incredible jumping ability, but it seems they can’t fly.]
[Shane Rhodes: I’ve left the main group with Carole Underwood. I think she got scared just now. Does anyone know how to comfort a girl?]
Shane Rhodes stared at the Intelligent Brain, then turned to look at the girl clinging to him like a koala and sighed helplessly.
“We’re safe now. You can get down.”
Joy Underwood didn’t say anything, just looked at Shane Rhodes with her teary eyes and tightened her grip.
“I can’t walk if you keep this up,” Shane Rhodes said with a hint of resignation.
At his words, Joy Underwood did indeed loosen her grip slightly, but she didn’t let go.
Seeing this, Shane Rhodes had no choice but to pin his hopes on the Intelligent Brain again, hoping the other three could come up with a good idea for him.
He really didn’t know how to comfort girls. His sisters at home had rarely cried in front of him.
The few times they did cry were just crocodile tears. And after meeting Moira Lynch, he’d found her to be unbelievably tough.
He still vividly remembered the scene where she’d hoisted a gas canister with one hand.
Kai York replied quite bluntly, “I don’t know how. I only know how to make girls cry. Comforting people isn’t my specialty.”
[Hugh Finch: Never comforted anyone.]
[Shane Rhodes: @Moira Lynch, you should know how to comfort a girl, right?]
‘It takes one to know one,’ he thought. ‘A man understands a man, so a woman must understand a woman.’
Seeing Shane Rhodes’s plea for help, Moira Lynch thought back seriously, trying to remember how she was comforted when she cried.
She hadn’t cried in this life, but in her past life…
[Moira Lynch: I don’t know either. I usually just comfort myself.]
[Shane Rhodes: …]
[Kai York: Poor Moira. Let your big bro comfort you from now on, okay?]
[Moira Lynch: Get lost. My situation is special. If I’m alone, I’ll probably be fine after crying for a bit. The more people try to comfort me, the harder I cry.]
[Moira Lynch: Why don’t you try hugging her?]
Meanwhile, having received no other useful advice, Shane Rhodes closed the Intelligent Brain. He turned to the girl, whose eyelashes were still wet with tears, and said softly, “How about this? If you’re scared, what if I carry you?”
Hearing this, Carole Underwood turned to look at Shane Rhodes, her eyes blinking innocently.
Since she didn’t refuse, Shane Rhodes took it as a yes.
As for why he was carrying her in his arms instead of on his back, that was naturally because…
It’s hard to unfurl his wings with someone on his back.
Shane Rhodes bent down and swept Joy Underwood up from the ground in a princess carry. “You’re so light.”
As he spoke, he gave her a little bounce in his arms. “It feels like you weigh nothing at all. From the looks of it, you haven’t been eating properly. There’s no meat on your bones.”
Carole Underwood listened to Shane Rhodes’s complaints, but his actions were so gentle that she couldn’t help but blush.
Her heart, which had been in a panic from the earlier monster ambush, finally calmed down.
Seeing the girl finally stop trembling, Shane thought to himself, ‘I can’t believe Moira’s idea actually worked.’
Next, to avoid another monster attack, Moira Lynch, Kai York, Hugh Finch, and Shane Rhodes all decided to travel by air at nearly the same time.
After about an hour and a half, the group finally managed to rendezvous.
Shane Rhodes set Carole Underwood down from his arms and took the lead with introductions. “This is Kai York, Hugh Finch, and Moira Lynch.”
“Kai York, Hugh Finch, Moira, this is Carole Underwood.”
“You can just call me Song,” Carole Underwood said softly.
Moira Lynch looked at the girl’s timid appearance and glanced in Hugh Finch’s direction, as if to say, ‘Are you sure this is the person we’re looking for?’
Without needing Moira Lynch’s prompting, Hugh Finch was already re-evaluating, wondering if he had truly made a mistake in his calculations.
But no matter how many times he checked, there was no error. The Carole Underwood before them was the one they were looking for—the savior of this world.
Moira Lynch opened the Communication Corridor and asked, “Are you sure?”
Hugh Finch nodded. “I’m sure, and I’m positive. Carole Underwood’s divination reading is identical to Barry Wallace’s and Mark Rhodes’s before. And I also calculated…”
“Calculated what?” Moira Lynch asked curiously.
“I foresaw a fateful connection between her and the boss, but whether it will ultimately bear fruit is unclear. The result is blurry, possibly due to this world’s apocalypse.”
After hearing Hugh Finch’s words, Moira Lynch looked at the two of them again.
At that moment, Carole Underwood was standing beside Shane Rhodes like a shy, newly-wedded bride, her eyes occasionally stealing glances at him.
She hadn’t noticed the romantic sparks between them before.
If the timing weren’t so bad, she would definitely play matchmaker for them.
However, judging by Shane Rhodes’s expression, he didn’t seem to realize that Joy Underwood was interested in him.
“Well, if that’s the case, I don’t recommend telling Joy Underwood the truth like we did before,” Moira Lynch said seriously.
“Why?” Hugh Finch was confused. “The previous two went smoothly, so why not this time?”
“Because Carole Underwood is a girl?”
Hugh Finch gave Moira Lynch a strange look, as if to say, ‘How can you be so sexist?’
“That’s not the reason. I’m afraid she’ll get lovesick and, in an attempt to keep Shane Rhodes here, do something completely unexpected,” Moira Lynch said.
“No way, she seems like a nice girl,” Hugh Finch said, uncertain.
“It’s better to be safe than sorry. Never underestimate a woman, and never underestimate someone who’s head over heels. She’s the savior, after all. If she really goes crazy, we might not be her match.”
“Hey, what are you two talking about? So secretive,” Kai York cut in, approaching them with a look of dissatisfaction.
Moira Lynch didn’t hide anything and repeated what she had just said to him.
Hearing this, Kai York nodded in deep agreement. “That’s definitely a possibility. After all, the boss has been a chick magnet since he was a kid, even if he’s completely oblivious to it.”
