Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 658: Hello 6
Moira Lynch shook her head again. “I’m very sorry, but I have no intention of joining any faction or team. Besides, even if I don’t join you, I don’t think anyone will be able to harass me.”
As she spoke, a bone-chilling cold emanated from her, making everyone nearby shiver involuntarily.
The woman closest to Moira undoubtedly felt it the most. The person before her was even stronger than she had imagined.
They had learned of Moira Lynch’s existence from a team that had just returned.
They knew she was an Ice Talent User with high combat power, capable of easily suppressing Gilt Beetles.
It just so happened that a Water Talent User on their team had recently quit, so they thought of inviting this person to fill the vacancy.
They had thought it was a sure thing, but they never expected her to refuse so bluntly.
Moreover, they had also misjudged the combat strength of the person before them.
“If you’re not willing, then let’s just forget it.”
With that, the woman turned and left without hesitation.
Watching them leave, Moira Lynch let out a sigh of relief. ‘I don’t know these people at all. They invite me to join their team the moment we meet—who knows what they’re really up to?’
Besides, setting other factors aside, Moira didn’t consider herself some universally beloved charmer. She wasn’t very social, and integrating into a group was no simple task for her.
In a situation like that, if they encountered any danger, she’d likely be the first one abandoned, or maybe even forced to be the scapegoat.
What she didn’t know was that the people who had just left were now talking about her.
“Jade, are we just going to let it go like this?”
“Yeah! We came to invite her personally, and she’s so unappreciative. She really doesn’t know what’s good for her.”
“If you ask me, it’s because she just got to the base and doesn’t know how cruel people can be. I heard she was always protected by her brothers before.”
“She’s refusing us now, but just wait until she’s had a taste of hardship. She’ll probably come begging us to take her in.”
They all chimed in, practically wishing for Moira Lynch to meet with disaster the very next second and come kneeling before them, begging to be taken in.
“Alright, all of you, shut up. She’s not as simple as you think,” Jade Lawson chided softly.
She herself had only attained her current level of strength because fifty percent of the team’s resources had been spent on her.
But just now, she had clearly sensed that the other woman’s strength surpassed her own. With that kind of power, how could she possibly need anyone else’s protection?
After getting a sense of her strength, Jade Lawson had completely given up on the idea of recruiting her.
The reason was simple: she had no desire to hand over the team she had painstakingly built to someone else.
“But Jade, we don’t have a Water Talent User anymore, and this Ice Talent User rejected our invitation. What are the sisters going to do for daily water?”
At a time when the water supply was contaminated and incredibly scarce, the members of their team could still stay clean. Jade Lawson could even take a comfortable, hot bath every day she wasn’t on a mission. This was all because they had a Water Talent User.
However, just yesterday, that Water Talent User had resolutely left their team.
Because the base administration had mediated the situation, they had no choice but to let her go, even if they didn’t want to.
But they were used to using water lavishly, and they had already used up all the water left behind by the previous Water Talent User in less than a day.
Now, if they didn’t find a replacement soon, they would…
At the mention of this, Jade Lawson’s expression soured. “All the Water Talent Users in the base right now are either controlled by the administration or are on established teams. Finding a new one isn’t going to be that easy.
“If it comes to it, you’ll just have to put up with it for a few days.”
“I won’t!” a girl in the team retorted. “You’re the one who used most of that water, Jade! You insisted on taking baths, and none of us could talk you out of it. It was your mistake, so why should we all have to pay the price? Anyway, I refuse to end up stinking. If you can’t figure something out, I’m quitting!”
The girl’s tone was arrogant and willful, yet no one stepped up to refute her. Even Jade Lawson herself was left speechless.
‘But I didn’t do anything wrong,’ she thought. ‘I just took a bath, that’s all. And it’s not like I was the only one. Everyone here took one; I was just the first.’
Meanwhile, Moira Lynch was walking down the main street of the base. The sides of the road were lined with people selling things from stalls.
Whenever she saw someone selling books, Moira would stop and buy them.
The written and spoken languages of this world were quite similar to those on Caelus. During the last game, she had also collected many books to enrich her library back home.
This time, her thinking was the same. Rather than let these books be lost in the apocalypse, it was better for her to take them with her.
As for Contribution Points, if she ran out, she could just earn more. It was a simple matter anyway.
After looking around for a while, she hadn’t found anything interesting besides the books. After a moment’s thought, Moira Lynch turned and headed to the place where missions were posted.
In the Mission Hall, besides posting and accepting missions, one could also exchange Contribution Points for various daily necessities and weapons.
Moira Lynch glanced at the various items on the exchange list, her eyes lingering on the very top tier.
The item ranked first wasn’t the most expensive, but the one that had been exchanged for the most times.
Genetic Transformation Liquid. After injection, it could provide a comprehensive boost to all physical attributes, but it only lasted for one month, after which another injection was required.
The description for the medicine noted that it was normal to feel a sense of loss when the Genetic Transformation Liquid wore off. It also stated that the liquid had no negative side effects and was not addictive.
It was described as being surrounded by a crowd of people, feeling excited and happy, and then suddenly, everyone disappears. You would inevitably feel a sense of disparity and loss; it was unavoidable.
A vial of Genetic Transformation Liquid cost only ten Contribution Points—very cheap. Anyone could afford to exchange for it with a little effort.
Moira Lynch tapped to exchange. Soon, ten Contribution Points were deducted from her balance, and a sealed test tube emerged from the bottom right of the machine. The tube contained a golden liquid.
“Patience, can you analyze what’s inside this test tube?” Moira asked, holding the tube in her hand.
[A simple scan won’t be enough to analyze it, but Master, you could try giving it to the Healing Device. It might be able to.] Patience suggested.
