Chapter 650: Chapter 640: Research Institute

“The person vanished from the surveillance footage. Other than some kind of spatial ability, I can’t think of any other possibility.

“Plus, the port’s entrances and exits were sealed immediately after they disappeared. Everyone coming or going is being strictly searched, but there’s still no trace of them,” the short-haired woman said.

“If that’s the case, be careful. A young girl encountering something like this must be terrified. Find her and protect her,” the man said in a low voice.

Next, the group discussed their next steps before leaving one after another.

What they failed to notice was a Golden Celestial Eye rolling out from behind a cabinet in the corner of the room.

Moira Lynch controlled the Golden Celestial Eye, guiding it out of the private room.

‘I can’t believe it,’ she thought. ‘I see a handsome guy, follow him on a whim, and end up hearing such explosive news.’

‘Those people just now must have been undercover agents.’

‘To think there’s actually an undercover agent who made it to a second-in-command position.’

Lying on her bed, Moira Lynch replayed the conversation she had just overheard.

‘Those people didn’t seem to have any ill intent toward me. Should I reveal my identity to them? I might be able to use the opportunity to escape.’

‘But that would be risky. I might get discovered, and it would be bad if I ended up exposing those agents.’

With that thought, Moira temporarily dismissed the idea of revealing her identity to them.

However, she had just heard them mention a research institute.

The people who were kidnapped along with her had been taken to the research institute.

Moira issued a command to the Heavenly Eye outside: find the research institute.

Just then, Patience’s voice suddenly sounded.

“Master, Shane Rhodes is making a video call. Should I connect it?”

“Will it expose my location?” Moira asked.

“No, this room is secure.”

“Then put it through.”

A screen quickly materialized before Moira’s eyes, and Shane Rhodes’s face appeared on it.

After the call connected, Shane first scanned Moira’s surroundings. Once he confirmed she was safe, he couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief. “You look like you’re doing okay.”

Moira nodded. “My life isn’t in danger, for now.”

“As long as your life isn’t in danger. You know, when we heard you were abducted, Kai York was about to charge right over to rescue you. Hugh Finch had already calculated the precise coordinates of Javell.”

Hearing this, Moira waved her hands dismissively. “Tell them not to come, absolutely not. I’m very safe here. Besides, I’ve even picked up quite a few things.”

“For free?”

“Of course.”

“So when can you come back?”

“Not sure. I’ll most likely be staying here until the game starts.”

Shane Rhodes nodded. “I know you have a lot of aces up your sleeve, but still, be careful. If anything happens, contact Hugh Finch and have him do a reading for you.”

Hearing this, Moira smiled and said, “Got it.”

“Oh, right, one more thing. The people sent from the base have already set out for the coordinates you provided. If you can’t make it back, we’ll give it to you during the game.”

“Okay.”

After hanging up, Moira felt a warmth spread through her heart. This feeling of being cared for wasn’t bad at all.

Just as she was basking in this happy feeling, she suddenly felt a sharp sting.

Moira shot up in bed. Her connection to her spiritual power had been severed.

Opening her palm, a damaged Heavenly Eye appeared in her hand.

The Heavenly Eye had been split clean in two. The cut was perfectly smooth, as if made by some sharp blade.

Moira controlled her spiritual power to repair the Heavenly Eye in her hand.

By reading the Heavenly Eye’s final images, she saw a white building. The words “Research Institute” were particularly conspicuous.

Following Moira’s command, upon discovering the research institute, the Heavenly Eye had instinctively tried to move in for reconnaissance, and then… nothing.

The trail went cold there. The Heavenly Eye must have been attacked the moment it got close to the institute.

‘I don’t think the Heavenly Eye itself was detected,’ she mused. ‘This must be some kind of automated defense system. Anything or anyone that approaches without permission is attacked.’

Moira clicked her tongue. ‘They dared to destroy my Heavenly Eye. I’m absolutely not letting this go.’

‘What’s that? You say the Heavenly Eye made the first move? That’s not important.’

The corners of Moira’s mouth lifted into a malicious smile.

The research institute was a bit far from her current hotel, so to avoid exposing herself, she decided to take a trip out.

Because of the day’s events, the three major gangs had all mobilized, casting a pall of fear and anxiety over the streets of Javell.

Some of the more timid people who didn’t want trouble simply hid in their residences, refusing to go out. Meanwhile, the usual troublemakers, realizing that the three major powers were actually serious this time, all laid low, not daring to stir the pot.

Under these circumstances, if you died, you really just died for nothing. No one would take pity on you—though it was usually like that anyway.

Dressed all in black, Moira Lynch walked down the street.

After walking for about half an hour, she finally arrived at her destination: a restaurant.

On Javell, anyone who could open a business here was either powerful enough themselves or had a powerful enough backer. This shop belonged to the former category.

The owner of this restaurant was rumored to have a talent that made them invulnerable to blades and bullets.

After entering the restaurant, Moira glanced at the menu and casually ordered a few dishes.

While waiting for the food, Moira closed her eyes, seemingly feigning sleep. In reality, her spiritual power was already stealthily stretching out toward the research institute.

This restaurant was very close to the research institute. This time, she only extended her spiritual power in one direction. Though the range was smaller, her room for manipulation was much greater.

Just as Moira had guessed, the weapons outside the research institute didn’t react to her spiritual power at all.

After successfully infiltrating the research institute, Moira began her rampage.

First, she destroyed the weapons and defense systems inside. Then, she located the imprisoned people and test subjects, opened all their cages, and crushed the hearts of every single guard she found.

She also destroyed the circuitry, plunging the institute into darkness.

In an instant, the entire research institute descended into chaos.

Screams and explosions echoed everywhere.

Before, all the screams had come from the test subjects. This time, it was their turn.

Researchers who had subjected them to the institute’s inhumane punishments were caught by the enraged test subjects.

Seeing one test subject suddenly open its mouth wide and bite off half of a researcher’s head, Moira retracted her spiritual power with a hint of disgust.

‘This should be enough.’

‘I’ve cleared all the obstacles on their escape path. If they still can’t get away after this, then it has nothing to do with me.’
