Chapter 649: Chapter 639: If We Don’t Close the Net Soon, I’ll Become the Boss

The decision came down quickly.

In her room, Moira Lynch received news of what was framed as compensation but was actually a form of exile.

She learned over the phone that, as compensation for the day’s events, she could move to a more expensive, spacious room on a higher floor at no extra cost. Moira Lynch readily accepted this “exile.”

Staring at the room—which was much larger than her last one—Moira Lynch couldn’t help but marvel, ‘The rich really know how to live.’

‘In fact,’ she thought, ‘I expected a room like this for the hundred thousand I’m spending per day. Who knew that was just the base price?’

While Moira Lynch was still marveling at the sheer luxury of the wealthy, the entire planet of Javell had been thrown into utter chaos.

For some unknown reason, the warehouses of the three major powers had been robbed, their countless goods vanishing into thin air.

To find the culprit as quickly as possible, the three powers mobilized in unison, vowing to find the thief and tear them limb from limb.

Holding a glass of red wine, Moira Lynch walked to the floor-to-ceiling window. She gazed down at the scene below, then took a sip.

“This is disgusting!”

The next second, Moira Lynch’s face twisted in disgust.

She set the wine aside, then pulled a can of ice-cold cola from her personal dimension. She popped the tab and took a long gulp.

“Ahh, much better.”

Watching the people scurrying about below, she already knew, thanks to her Heavenly Eye, that the entire planet of Javell was on the move, all to find the very thief who stole their things.

A smile played on Moira Lynch’s lips. ‘Go ahead and search. You’ll never find a thing.’

She was going to teach them the meaning of “easier to invite a demon in than to send it away.”

Meanwhile, in a bar, a long-haired man in a black coat and hat pushed open the door to a private room.

Several people were already inside, waiting for him.

The group was a mix of men and women, every one of them with a grim expression and murder in their eyes.

Upon seeing the man enter, they all rose to their feet. One of them called out, “Captain.”

The man nodded. “Report. What happened?”

The words had barely left his mouth when one of the two women in the group spoke up. “Captain, we’re not sure what happened. All we know is that the warehouses the three big gangs use for storage were hit simultaneously. All the goods inside vanished in an instant.”

“All of them? Simultaneously?” the man asked, stunned.

The woman nodded. “Maybe not to the exact second, but close enough.”

They had abandoned their names and identities, spending years undercover on Javell for one purpose: to take down every last criminal entrenched on this planet in one clean sweep.

Just when their plan was on the verge of success, this had to happen.

Never mind the smaller gangs; finding and emptying all of the three major powers’ warehouses overnight—without alerting anyone—was no ordinary feat.

Another man offered his theory. “Captain, I suspect we’re dealing with a new power. One that’s been planning this for a long time, aiming to wipe out the three big gangs and seize control of Javell.”

“Wes has a point,” another man added. “To be able to silently remove the goods, someone in their group must have a Space Talent. And to locate all the warehouses of the three big gangs… that would have to be…”

“A Spiritual Talent.”

The captain slowly uttered the two words.

A Spiritual Talent. If they’re on your side, it’s like having your own all-seeing eye. As long as their Spirit Domain is large enough, they can know an opponent’s situation inside and out.

But if that Talent is on the other side… well, that’s worse than just getting killed.

“Captain, should we try to recruit them?” another woman, this one with short hair, asked.

I mean, anyone who can empty the three gangs’ warehouses in a single day and throw all of Javell into chaos is clearly something special.

A well-coordinated team is a completely different beast from one that isn’t.

Besides, those with a Spiritual Talent are rare. The moment one is discovered, they’re recruited and treated like royalty.

Now that we’ve found a “wild” Talent, recruiting them would be a major coup for us.

“Recruit them? We’d have to find them first. We don’t even know where they are, so how are we supposed to do that? Besides, aren’t we about to close the net?”

The captain glanced at the man who had just spoken. “I just got word. Because of this, the three big gangs are on high alert. It’s no longer the optimal time to spring the trap. The mission is scrubbed. You’re to continue your undercover work. Don’t blow your cover.”

Although they had expected this outcome, they couldn’t hide their disappointment when they heard the news for real.

For this mission, the longest-serving among them had been undercover on Javell for twenty years.

Twenty years isn’t that long for Starfarers, but…

“Captain, can’t you ask command to let us wrap this up soon?” a somewhat overweight man in a black shirt pleaded.

“On what grounds? Or are you just homesick?”

“Not at all,” the man said, taking off his glasses with a sigh of resignation. “Captain, after all these years, I’ve made it to second-in-command. The boss has been talking about handing the reins over to me. Captain, I really don’t want to end up in front of a military tribunal.”

‘By that point, who’s going to believe a gang boss who claims he’s actually an undercover agent!’

Hearing this, the captain was taken aback for a second. He clapped the man on the shoulder. “I’ll report this exactly as you’ve told it. If worst comes to worst… just fake your death.”

He couldn’t let the man actually become the boss. At that point, there’d be no washing the stink off, no matter what he did.

“Oh, right. A while ago, HQ got an alert about a fully-booked passenger ship being hijacked and brought to Javell. The brass wants us to do what we can to rescue the hostages.”

“A hostage sent the alert?”

“Mm, it seems so.”

The short-haired woman seemed to recall something. “I know about that. The hostages were taken to a research lab, but I heard one of them got away. They still haven’t found her.

And after reviewing the surveillance, the escapee is a young girl. She vanished suddenly. We can be certain the one who got away awakened a Space Talent.”

“Space? Are you sure?”
