Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 648: Metal Frenzy
Chapter 648: Chapter 638: Metal Frenzy
Just then, an older Merfolk came forward, dragging his heavy tail. He gave Moira Lynch a deep bow and said, “Benefactor, thank you for saving me and my people. However, I have an impudent request to ask of you.
If you are willing, we will offer you the treasures the Merfolk Tribe has accumulated over many years.”
The word “treasure” piqued Moira Lynch’s interest. “What kind of treasure?” she asked.
The older Merfolk said, “Merfolk tears turn into pearls. If you agree, we will offer you all the pearls we have collected over many years, as well as our Mermaid Silk.”
“That sounds like a very tempting offer.”
The Merfolk were weak, but they were a proud and fierce people. When humans coveted their pearls, they refused to give them up, refusing to shed a single tear even in the face of death. If someone wanted Mermaid Silk, they would rather cripple their own hands than weave it.
“Why don’t you tell me what the request is first.”
Although she was tempted, Moira Lynch didn’t agree right away.
“It’s our king. He was captured as well. I’m hoping you can rescue him.”
Hearing the older Merfolk’s words, Moira Lynch was inwardly amazed. ‘Damn,’ she thought. ‘Even the Merman King was captured? They really got the whole lot of you.’
But as it happened, she knew exactly where this Merman King was.
She had discovered it the moment she checked into the hotel: a Merfolk was locked up in a room on the top floor.
This particular Merfolk was guarded twenty-four hours a day. His body was suspended high in the air, his tail was desiccated, and his scales were peeling off.
The room’s occupant came every day to inflict inhuman torture on the Merfolk, trying to force him into submission.
But he had clearly failed. Not only that, but just yesterday, the Merfolk had nearly managed to kill him instead.
Because of that, the Merfolk had suffered a vicious beating. Even the bones in his tail had been broken. It was clear his captor had intended to kill him.
“That’s easy.”
Moira Lynch snapped her fingers. The next second, the Merman King appeared inside the pocket dimension, covered in wounds.
The Merman King, suddenly in a new environment, was disoriented. But upon seeing his people rushing toward him and the stranger in the distance, he instinctively moved to shield his subjects behind him.
However, due to his severe injuries, he collapsed unconscious the very next second.
“My deepest apologies! Please forgive our king’s offense; he did not mean it.”
‘This person had rescued them so easily, and even brought back their king. Her power was immense; she was definitely not someone they could afford to provoke.’
“It’s fine.” Moira Lynch waved her hand dismissively and pointed. “There’s a small ocean over in that direction. You can live there for now. Feel free to eat any of the fish in there.”
Upon hearing Moira Lynch’s words, the Merfolk burst into cheers.
After settling the other species, Moira Lynch suddenly heard a furious pounding on her door.
At the sound, she quickly exited the pocket dimension.
Just as Moira Lynch returned to her room, the door was thrown open with great force from the outside.
A group of menacing-looking thugs, radiating killing intent, barged in.
With a cold expression, Moira Lynch stopped them as they began to rummage through her things. “What do you think you’re doing?” she demanded.
The leader of the group saw her slender frame and dismissed her immediately. “Our boss lost a Merfolk,” he said arrogantly. “He sent us down to have a look around.”
Hearing this, Moira Lynch sneered. “What does your boss losing a Merfolk have to do with me? Get out now!”
Something she said must have struck them as funny, because the men burst out laughing.
“‘Please?'” the leader jeered. “He said ‘please’ get out. Wow, it’s been a long time since I heard such a polite turn of phrase. Kid, you must be new to Javell, right? Have you paid your protection fee?”
Moira Lynch looked at the men cackling in front of her, completely dismissing her. A cold glint flashed in her eyes.
‘I have to put the fear of God into all of them at once,’ she knew. ‘Otherwise, I won’t have a moment’s peace here.’
With that, her resolve hardened. A Metal Blade materialized in her hand.
The next second, the man’s laughter died in his throat. Warm blood burst from his neck, spraying across her face.
It wasn’t until the man’s body slumped to the floor, staining it red with blood, that the remaining thugs snapped out of their stupor, their eyes wide with terror as they stared at Moira Lynch.
At that moment, a flicker of excitement was in Moira Lynch’s eyes. The corners of her mouth curled up uncontrollably. As her gaze swept over them, the dagger she had just used to kill began to shift and transform in her hand.
“It’s… Metal Frenzy! Run!”
Someone screamed. In an instant, everyone still alive in the room scrambled to escape as if they had seen a ghost. Even the gawkers in the hallway vanished.
This was no joke. That was Metal Frenzy. If she truly went on a rampage, all of them combined wouldn’t be enough for a light snack.
The most terrifying thing about the Metal Frenzy ability was that while others grew tired with every kill, its wielder only grew more exhilarated.
Once everyone had vanished, Moira Lynch finally dismissed the dagger and plopped down on her bed.
‘Now I finally get why Metal Frenzy is so dangerous.’
The feeling was like drinking an ice-cold Coke in the middle of summer, but a hundred times better.
It felt absolutely incredible.
‘For a split second, she had genuinely wanted to slaughter every last one of them. Fortunately, she managed to restrain herself.’
After some time, her excitement finally subsided. She looked down at the blood spattering her clothes and decided to take a shower first before figuring out what to do with the body on the floor.
Half an hour later, when she emerged from the bathroom, she was pleasantly surprised to find the room had been cleaned spotlessly. There wasn’t even a hint of an odor.
‘Not bad. Looks like the staff here knows how to handle things.’
Moira Lynch lay down on the bed, in a very good mood.
What she didn’t know was that because of the incident, her neighbors to the left and right, as well as the neighbor to the left of her left neighbor, the neighbor to the right of her right neighbor, and the neighbor across the hall…
In short, a whole swath of guests in the rooms surrounding hers had all chosen to check out.
One even declared that he would rather sleep on the streets than be neighbors with someone who wielded Metal Frenzy.
The hotel management was having a massive headache over this. They couldn’t afford to offend the guest with Metal Frenzy…
…but losing so many guests at once was something they couldn’t explain to their boss.
“Valued guests, please, calm down. I need to consult the manager about this matter first.”
