Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 647 - 637: A Little Mental Compensation Isn’t Too Much, Is It?
Moira Lynch didn’t waste much time on such matters. She had no intention of playing the part of some goody-two-shoes, righting wrongs for strangers she met on the road.
She walked silently down the street, clad in a black jacket, a black hat obscuring most of her face.
"Patience, I’m not familiar with Javell," Moira Lynch instructed. "Search for anything of value here and compile a list for me."
[Master, that might be a bit tricky. The information on the Astranet is incomplete, and some of it is fabricated. To get the real details, I would have to connect to Javell’s internal network. However, doing so would get me flagged and risk exposing our information.]
Hearing this from Patience, Moira Lynch calmly replied, "That’s simple. Just use another Intelligent Brain to connect to the internal network."
She had deliberately saved a few of the second-hand Intelligent Brains she’d acquired from The Elven Race for just such an occasion.
With a spare Intelligent Brain, Patience quickly connected to Javell’s internal network and compiled a list.
"So many things?"
Moira Lynch was stunned by the list in her hand.
The list had practically everything imaginable, a dazzling variety of items. It seemed that anything she couldn’t think of, it was on here. The list even included the rare Merfolk Tribe.
Except here, the Merfolk Tribe weren’t considered people at all. They were pets, food, and merchandise.
Moira Lynch looked at the photos Patience provided. The Merfolk were covered in wounds, their scales were flaking off, and their tail fins were mangled as if they had been deliberately sheared off.
Their eyes were desolate, like lambs to the slaughter.
"Patience, these Merfolk seem a little different from the ones I’ve encountered before," Moira Lynch said.
[Yes, they are different. They are two separate species. The ones you met before were formidable fighters who mostly live in the deep sea. These Merfolk, however, have almost no combat ability. But their tears can turn into pearls, and they can also craft beautiful Mermaid Silk, making them extremely popular throughout the galaxy.
Then, someone discovered that eating their flesh could prolong one’s life. They were hunted en masse and have now become an endangered species.
Gradually, they went from being legal residents of The Federation to occupying an awkward status somewhere between citizen and pet.]
"What an unlucky species."
[By the way, Master, what do you plan to buy? I can find the channels.]
"Buy? I’m not planning to buy anything."
[What?]
In response, Moira Lynch said with an air of perfect justification, "These people dragged me here against my will. If I hadn’t escaped so quickly, they probably would have wanted to gut me. It’s perfectly reasonable for me to collect a little spiritual compensation, right?"
[Er... you have a point.]
"Besides, this stuff wasn’t obtained legitimately in the first place. By taking it, I’m practically doing a public service. It’ll keep them from using it to harm anyone else."
Moira Lynch then began to carefully study the list: Life Regeneration Device, Spirit Reconstructor, Cell Regeneration Potion, Quantum Light Wave Instrument, Energy Barrier, Nanometer Shield, Liquid Metal...
With so many items, if she were to pay for them, she’d go bankrupt in no time.
This time, Moira Lynch chose not to use her spiritual power to scout ahead.
This was Javell, after all—a haven for outlaws. The criminals who made it here were not your average thugs. ’Surely someone would be able to detect my spiritual power.’
Besides, spiritual power wasn’t omnipotent. The farther it was from her body, the weaker and more easily detected it became.
So, she used her spiritual power only to secure a two-meter radius around herself, forming a zone of absolute safety.
For everything else, she released all the Golden and Red Celestial Eyes she had.
The Heavenly Eyes were small and fast. Even if they were discovered, they wouldn’t lead back to her.
After making thorough preparations, Moira Lynch arrived at the most luxurious and secure hotel on Javell.
A single night’s stay here cost one hundred thousand Gold Coins.
Of course, the service was worthy of the price. It was rumored to be the safest place on all of Javell.
After getting a room with an unregistered Black Card, a grand heist began.
Moira Lynch lay on the bed in her room, closed her eyes, and mentally controlled the Heavenly Eyes as they flew about in the skies above Javell.
Due to years of pollution, the air over Javell was perpetually hazy and gray. This, combined with the Heavenly Eyes’ small size and high altitude, made them even harder to spot.
Even if someone did happen to notice one, they would just assume it was a fast-moving bird.
In this way, over the course of two days, Moira Lynch quickly identified where the various factions kept their merchandise.
As the saying goes, wherever there are people, there are power struggles. Though Javell seemed chaotic, it had its own clear power structure.
There were countless factions of all sizes on Javell, but only three of them truly called the shots.
Just as Moira Lynch was preparing to make her move, one of the Red Celestial Eyes located the place where the Merfolk were imprisoned.
She had assumed that something as valuable as the Merfolk would be controlled by one of Javell’s three major factions, but she was surprised to find they were held by a minor, unranked group.
However, she quickly figured out what was going on.
This small faction was a subsidiary of one of the three major powers. Moira Lynch couldn’t be bothered to find out which one.
The parent faction had outsourced its Merfolk operations to this smaller group.
In addition to the Merfolk, Moira Lynch also found Elves, Dwarves, Werewolves, Vampire fledglings, members of the Lucent Clan, the Felini Tribe, the Angelic Race, and Halflings, among many other species.
According to Patience, these were all extremely rare species highly favored by the aristocracy.
"Patience, if members of the Human Race were to suddenly show up here, do you think we’d find them in these cages too?"
[I doubt it. The Human Race holds a very high status in the galaxy.]
After all, even The Royals called themselves human.
Moira Lynch said nothing. She decided to save these poor souls.
The communication process went very smoothly.
After all, Moira Lynch was their only hope in this sunless existence. If they failed to seize this chance, their only fate was to become pets, to be played with at the whims of others.
After getting their consent, Moira Lynch used the Heavenly Eyes to pull them all into her personal space.
Moira Lynch appeared inside the space and said to them, "You can all rest here for now. I’ll let you go when the time is right."
The group looked at their surroundings, the terror in their eyes not yet fully gone.
