Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 626 - 616: Zombie 11
In the end, Shane Rhodes agreed to Moira Lynch’s proposal. His reasoning was that he looked more intimidating, and besides, the title "Dual Ability User" sounded incredibly powerful.
After they returned to their respective rooms, Moira Lynch took out a shallow dish and a bottle of nutrient liquid.
She poured the nutrient liquid into the dish, then materialized several different types of Medicine and poured them in as well.
Once she had done all this, she let in the Ragdoll Cat, which had been waiting impatiently outside.
The moment the Ragdoll Cat entered, it dashed straight for the dish and began lapping at the contents.
Moira Lynch watched for a moment before returning to her bed. She took out the Crystal Cores and began to absorb them one by one.
After absorbing a hundred Crystal Cores in a row, Moira Lynch paused.
’There’s a limit to how many Crystal Cores I can absorb?’
Looking at the two hundred-odd Crystal Cores remaining, she thought for a moment before taking out the item, the Super delicious orange.
It had taken a few days, but after swelling from the size of an orange to a pomelo last time, it had finally shrunk back down to the size of an orange.
"Eat up!"
The Super delicious orange seemed to understand Moira Lynch’s words. It opened its eyes and, in a single gulp, swallowed all the Crystal Cores in front of her.
A moment later, she felt a strange sensation in her stomach.
"BLECH."
Unable to stop herself, she bent over and dry-heaved a few times.
’It’s this feeling again. The feeling of being so full it’s like the food is stuck in the back of your throat.’
Luckily, Moira Lynch had plenty of talents, and the sensation faded after a short while.
’Looks like this thing isn’t without its side effects.’
With that thought, Moira Lynch got up and headed outside.
A few minutes later, she returned.
About two minutes after that, the sound of a man dry-heaving broke the silence of the house.
Hearing the noise, Moira Lynch finally broke into a satisfied smile.
’That’s more like it. Siblings should share the good times and the bad.’
「Day five of the game.」
The two of them woke up early.
Moira Lynch took a box of crackers from her Space Button and started eating. When she saw Shane Rhodes approach, she gestured for him to have some.
"No thanks, I’m not hungry." He dry-heaved twice as he spoke, then tossed an orange-colored figure into her arms.
"This item is great, but the side effect is a little hard to take."
For someone like Shane Rhodes, who only had one talent, it was indeed a bit much to handle.
After finishing breakfast, the two of them set out early and arrived outside the base.
A long line had already formed.
These were teams of Superpower Users who had left on missions a few days ago and were only just returning.
Some of them were flushed with success, their faces wreathed in smiles, while others were dejected, their eyes dull and lifeless.
Moira Lynch and Shane Rhodes’s arrival immediately drew the attention of many people.
Moments later, a guard at the gate spotted them, exchanged a few words with the person beside him, and then two fully armed soldiers headed in their direction.
"Hello. Our commander heard about what happened yesterday and sent us to provide you with protection and maintain order."
Every Superpower User was precious. Moira Lynch’s actions yesterday had solved a major problem for the base, saving Superpower Users who would have otherwise died.
Every additional Superpower User gave them more strength to fight the zombies.
"Thank you."
After politely thanking them, Moira Lynch began the day’s healing.
The first people she treated weren’t those in line waiting to enter the base.
In reality, when a member of these Superpower User teams was injured—especially seriously—they were likely to be abandoned.
After all, traveling with a wounded person would significantly slow a team’s progress and could even drag them all down.
That was for accidental injuries.
If someone was scratched by a zombie, their teammates would kill them before they could turn.
All this to say, there weren’t many injured people in the queue, and those who were only had minor wounds.
Moira Lynch watched as patient after patient was carried toward her. One of the two soldiers explained, "These people are from the quarantine zone. Some have already started showing signs of infection. If they’re not treated right away, they likely won’t last the day."
Knowing that Moira Lynch charged a hundred Crystal Cores per person, the base leadership had made an arrangement with these people before her arrival. If they could come up with the Crystal Cores, they would pay themselves. If not, the base would cover the fee, but on the condition that after they recovered, they would have to work for the base.
Simply put, they would be working to pay off their debt.
Naturally, people who’d been thrown in the quarantine zone didn’t have a hundred Crystal Cores on them. But given the chance to live, who would choose to die? Especially an undignified death like turning into a zombie.
So, they all unhesitatingly chose the latter option.
Shane Rhodes accepted the payment handed over—a total of five thousand Crystal Cores.
The man watched in surprise as the large bag of Crystal Cores vanished from Shane’s hands. "You’re a Space Ability User! Though, that kind of superpower is only good for being a mobile warehouse. It’s not strong in a fight."
A corner of Shane Rhodes’s mouth lifted in a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. "I’m a Dual Ability User!"
Moira Lynch’s healing session was already underway. In less than half an hour, all fifty patients were cured. They were now full of life, a complete transformation from their previous death-like states.
The two soldiers maintaining order behind them were stunned.
They had heard the rumors, but hearing about it was one thing; seeing it with their own eyes was something else entirely.
A truly extraordinary individual had come to their base this time. She had healed fifty people in less than half an hour.
And from the looks of it, she had a completely relaxed expression, as if she hadn’t even used her full strength for the healing.
In fact, not only had she not used her full strength, but she had also deliberately held back to avoid frightening the two soldiers.
Otherwise, she could have handled all fifty people in less than ten minutes—no, less than five.
After healing everyone, Moira Lynch stretched. Seeing no one else step forward, she decided to end the healing session for now.
"Is it okay if I leave these things here?"
Moira Lynch said, pointing to the sign, yoga mat, and folding stool on the ground.
"No problem," one of them replied. "Is the healing over for today?"
She nodded. "My brother and I are going out to look for supplies. We’ll probably be back tonight."
She had only realized this morning that while they didn’t lack food (crackers and nutrient liquid) or drink (water from the ice Moira could conjure), they had almost nothing else, such as toiletries.
They weren’t for sale anywhere else in the base, which was why she wanted to go out and look, and maybe find some other food while they were at it.
