Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 621 - 611: Zombie 6
As she was about to leave, the Ragdoll Cat in her backpack let out an impatient meow, as if to remind Moira Lynch not to forget its catnip.
Seeing this, Moira Lynch said with a hint of helplessness, "Didn’t you just hear him? The man is going to deliver the stuff to our house later."
"MEOW!"
The Ragdoll Cat cried out again.
"Alright, alright."
Moira Lynch pretended to reach into her backpack, but in reality, she pulled a bag of cookies from her Space Button.
"I’ll take this pot of catnip with me now. This bag of cookies is for you."
After putting the catnip into her space, Moira Lynch wandered the streets for a while longer.
"Oh, right. Patience, I didn’t get a chance to ask earlier, what exactly is a ’positive mutation’?"
Moira Lynch asked curiously, recalling what had just happened.
[A positive mutation is exactly what it sounds like. Simply put, it’s when a plant suddenly mutates, and that mutation is beneficial to other living things.
Take wheat from Caelus, for example. It was once just wild grass. After generations of cultivation by your people, it became the wheat you know today. That can also be considered a type of positive mutation.
Plants like the Full Vine, Soldier Food Rattan, and Qio Vine are all examples of positive mutations as well.
Normally, this kind of mutation would take a very long time, but this planet is undergoing a massive transformation. It’s as if the fast-forward button has been pressed for everything, whether it’s humans, animals, or plants.]
"I see." Moira Lynch nodded in understanding. "So, can you detect the specific direction these plants are mutating in?"
[I’m afraid not. Detecting that would require specialized equipment. I can only make judgments based on appearance.]
"Based on appearance? How do you do that?" Moira Lynch asked.
[The stall owner has been around those plants for so long without any issues, which proves they aren’t harmful. And The Federation’s number one rule for positive mutations is that they cannot be harmful to people.]
Moira Lynch: ...
Patience only stayed with her for a short while before leaving, supposedly because there was a problem with one of its bionic entities.
Returning to her residence, she found the villa had already been cleaned.
Thinking that the flower shop owner would be by to deliver the flowers soon, Moira Lynch went ahead and cleared out the living room furniture to make space for them.
This would also make it more convenient for treating patients in the future.
On the way back, Moira Lynch had already decided to convert the first floor of the villa into a treatment room specifically for healing the sick. Moreover, she would specialize in treating the severely wounded—the kind who were just barely hanging on to life.
After all, there were already three Healing Superpower Users in this base. Although their levels weren’t high, they had been here longer than her. Some people were already accustomed to them and would only choose their established healers for treatment after getting injured.
As an outsider, if Moira Lynch wanted to get a piece of the pie, she had only two options. The first was to lower her prices, but an act that disrupted the market like that would surely anger the other Healing Superpower Users.
Of course, the woman she saw today was an exception.
Since she couldn’t lower her treatment prices, she had to find another path.
Considering her own level, Moira Lynch made her decision: she would only save those on the brink of death.
With her current ability, as long as a person was still breathing, she could save them.
After moving all the furniture out, she plopped down onto the only remaining sofa, opened her Intelligent Brain, and checked for messages from the other three.
[Shane Rhodes: Dawnlight Base? I think I’m nearby. Wait for me, I’m on my way!]
[Hugh Finch: I’m with a group of survivors right now, but they seem to be from Lucent Base. I might be a little late.]
[Kai York: Help, I think I was teleported into a primeval forest.]
This message was followed by a terrified emoji.
After that emoji, Shane Rhodes and Hugh Finch, showing a complete lack of brotherly love, sent a "serves you right" sticker, their glee palpable.
Seeing this, Moira Lynch followed her teammates’ lead.
’Since Kai York can send messages and isn’t asking for help, he must be fine for now.’
’Besides, given the timeline of mutations here, the levels of our group make us practically invincible.’
Soon, the sound of a vehicle stopping came from outside.
Moira Lynch walked outside to see a truck parked at her gate, with the flower shop owner just stepping out of the driver’s seat.
The owner walked around to the back of the truck and opened the cargo doors, revealing it was packed full of all sorts of flowers. The sheer variety was dazzling.
And even though Moira Lynch knew nothing about flowers, she could tell the owner had taken excellent care of them. However...
A very serious problem now confronted Moira Lynch.
’With this many flowers, do I really have enough food to pay for them?’
’The answer was a definite no.’
’This was the first time in a long while that Moira Lynch had worried about not having enough food. I wonder if he’ll let me pay on credit?’
’Paying on credit was out of the question. That meant she would have to barter with other goods.’
After the flower shop owner had moved all the flowers into the living room, Moira Lynch stepped forward. She opened her mouth, but she was a little unsure how to begin.
’What if he doesn’t agree?’
’Oh well. Better to just get it over with.’
"Um, sir, I didn’t expect you to bring so many plants. I might not have enough food to cover it all."
Hearing her say this, the flower shop owner was taken aback, but he wasn’t angry. He gave an awkward but polite smile and said, "It’s my fault, I got too excited and went a bit overboard. How about this? Just take what you want, and I can take the rest back."
Hearing this, Moira Lynch quickly said that wasn’t what she meant.
"I was wondering if, since I’m short on food, I could use other things to make up the difference? Like cigarettes, alcohol, or tea."
When the flower shop owner heard that Moira Lynch wanted to trade with cigarettes, alcohol, and tea, he naturally wouldn’t refuse.
After all, those kinds of things were far more valuable than food.
"That’s great!"
She had plenty of alcohol, cigarettes, and tea—and all high-end brands at that. She had no use for them herself, aside from occasionally using tea leaves to make milk tea.
Her main reason for collecting these items in the first place had been to trade for supplies.
After some final negotiation, Moira Lynch added two cartons of cigarettes to the food she was already offering.
The flower shop owner tucked the two cartons into his coat and started to walk out, but he stopped halfway and came back, a hesitant look on his face.
Finally, as if having made up his mind, he said to Moira Lynch, "Miss, seeing as you’re so generous, you must not be short on food. I have a succulent at home... I was wondering if you might be interested in it?"
"A succulent?"
"Yes!"
Just as Moira Lynch was about to ask why he hadn’t brought it with him,
the flower shop owner took out his phone, unlocked it, and pulled up a photo.
After seeing the photo, Moira Lynch knew why he hadn’t brought it along.
