Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 616 - 606: Zombies and Gathering Supplies
Moira Lynch extended her spiritual power. After a few minutes, she finally located something resembling a building in a certain direction.
’If there are buildings, there should be people, right?’
’Even though I didn’t detect anyone, what if they just went out?’
’Even if there’s really no one, it can serve as a temporary base, and I can check for supplies while I’m at it.’
After walking for about half an hour, Moira Lynch’s sharp eyes spotted a group in the distance charging toward her.
’Are the people here always this enthusiastic?’
However, she soon realized something was wrong.
’Zombies!’
Moira Lynch looked at the things running toward her, absolutely certain they were zombies.
She had mentioned zombies back when she was in the game. She never thought she’d be sent to an era with actual zombies so quickly.
She glanced around. There was no cover for her to hide behind.
Watching the approaching zombie horde, it seemed the only path left for Moira Lynch was a direct confrontation.
’A fight it is, then. It’s not like I’m scared.’
Moira Lynch took out the White Feather Bow, drew it, and fired at the distant zombie horde.
At the same time, a Flying Wheel appeared by her side and shot toward the distant horde.
The Flying Wheel was like a brute, charging into the zombie horde and rampaging wildly.
In an instant, it smashed all the surrounding zombies to pieces, leaving bodies strewn everywhere.
Meanwhile, Moira Lynch’s hands didn’t stop moving.
In just a short while, all the zombies were dead at Moira Lynch’s hands.
A little disgusted by the scene, Moira Lynch suddenly stopped, slapped her forehead, and said, "I almost forgot about the Crystal Cores."
After all, Crystal Cores were hard currency in the apocalypse.
If you were to ask Moira Lynch how she knew this, it was, of course, from what she’d read in novels.
’The only question is whether real zombies have Crystal Cores, or if they’ve even evolved to have them yet.’
Seeing the diamond-shaped crystal she dug out of a zombie’s head, Moira Lynch broke into an excited smile.
But this happiness didn’t last long.
The good news: the zombies did have Crystal Cores.
The bad news: these Crystal Cores were contaminated with the zombie virus and couldn’t be used directly.
Looking at the Crystal Core, Moira Lynch murmured to herself, "This thing probably needs to be purified before it can be used."
’Otherwise, who’s going to be responsible if I get infected with the zombie virus?’
With that thought, a ball of white flame appeared in Moira Lynch’s hand.
The flame continuously burned the diamond-shaped crystal in her hand.
Soon, a puff of black smoke emerged from it.
After about half a minute, the completely purified Crystal Core became even purer. Now it could be used without worry.
Next, Moira Lynch collected all the remaining Crystal Cores, purified every one of them, and then stored them in her Space Button.
After finishing all this, she opened her chat interface, went to their small group of four, and sent a reminder, "Zombie Crystal Cores contain the zombie virus. Don’t absorb them casually."
After sending the message, she felt it wasn’t quite right. ’What if the other three get scared of the virus and stop collecting Crystal Cores?’
So, she quickly added another message: "I can purify the Zombie Crystal Cores, so collect as many as you can."
Shane Rhodes: [Roger!]
Kai York: [Roger!]
Hugh Finch: [Roger!]
Shane Rhodes: [Where are you guys?]
...
After walking for some more time, Moira Lynch finally reached her destination.
Sure enough, there wasn’t a single person here. It looked like everyone had fled.
Looking at the buildings, Moira Lynch determined that this must have been a wealthy neighborhood.
It was still early, so she decided to scavenge for supplies first.
She started with the nearest house.
It was clear that the people here had fled in a hurry, leaving many things behind.
Some things were left out in the open, while other, more valuable items had been hidden away.
But under the scan of Moira Lynch’s spiritual power, nothing could remain hidden.
Whether it was a wine cellar hidden underground or a concealed safe, she found them all.
Unfortunately, it seemed the residents had been gone for quite some time. None of the appliances worked, and all the food in the refrigerators had spoiled.
Moira Lynch only found some non-perishable food, like crackers and such, which looked quite high-end from the packaging.
Aside from the small amount of food, she harvested a good deal of other things, like tobacco, alcohol, and tea.
’It makes sense. Compared to Gold and jewelry, these things are harder to carry.’
Moira Lynch took everything without hesitation.
After all, in the novels, this stuff was also considered hard currency.
She also took a few sets of clothes, and she didn’t overlook the spices in the kitchen. Her main principle was not to waste anything.
The owner of one house seemed to have been a collector of bladed weapons. It was filled with various swords and knives, all of them sharpened.
She took them.
’This familiar feeling... it’s been a while since I’ve been able to collect things so freely,’ Moira Lynch thought with a hint of nostalgia.
Moira Lynch didn’t finish searching all the houses until after dark. During this time, she occasionally encountered former homeowners who had turned into zombies, dealing with them with a single slash of her blade.
Moira Lynch chose a house with intact doors and windows as her temporary shelter, planning to set out again the next day.
The next day, she slowly opened her eyes.
She had spent the entire previous night in meditation. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to sleep; she simply couldn’t.
The occasional roars of zombies from outside were terrifying, and she didn’t dare to fall asleep.
It was a difficult wait until dawn, when the noises outside finally subsided.
After a simple meal of a few crackers, Moira Lynch got up, ready to leave.
Although she had nutrient liquid with her, as the saying goes, you save your best for when it’s most needed.
"Since this is a wealthy neighborhood, it must mean I’m not far from the city."
Moira Lynch extended her spiritual power once again. This time, she discovered a moving group.
’They have vehicles. They should be normal people.’
’Although I usually prefer to be a lone wolf, I’m in an unfamiliar place right now. It’s better to find someone to get familiar with the surroundings. This group is a good option.’
With this in mind, Moira Lynch headed in their direction.
Along the way, she even found a means of transportation: an electric scooter. She had no choice, since she didn’t know how to drive a car.
’No, I have to learn to drive when I get back.’
’My standards aren’t high; just knowing how to operate it is enough. As for road conditions and traffic laws, who cares about that stuff?’
’Anyway, by that time, nobody would care about those things, just like right now.’
Fortunately, the group didn’t seem to be moving very fast. It only took Moira Lynch half the morning to catch up to them.
"Who’s there?!"
Someone in the group noticed her approaching and immediately became vigilant.
When they saw it was a young woman on an electric scooter, they couldn’t help but lower their guard.
"Um, do you need any help?"
