Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 475 - 465: Arriving at Pyralia, Buying Shoes First
As Hugh Finch stared in astonishment, Moira Lynch’s once-messy hair neatly formed into a scorpion-tail braid hanging down her back.
Moira Lynch took out a mirror and looked at her reflection.
She knew how to do a scorpion-tail braid, but she was never quite satisfied with the results. It was nowhere near as good as this.
The tension was perfect, not pulling on her hair at all.
"Where did you get another amazing thing like this?"
Although he asked this, Hugh Finch recalled how Moira Lynch had looked so relieved when they first boarded the ship.
"I just got it from a blind box," Moira Lynch explained. "It’s a hair tie that can change my hairstyle and even my hair color anytime. Does it look good?"
Moira Lynch shook her head from side to side, and the braid swayed along with her movements.
"It looks great."
Then, Moira Lynch submerged her consciousness back into her space and began opening the rest of the blind boxes.
As expected, the value of the items from these blind boxes all exceeded the cost of the boxes themselves.
But aside from the Ice Crystal Bracelet from before, almost everything else was similar to the hair tie.
They were expensive but were merely decorative items that, at most, served an auxiliary function.
Take this Calming Incense Bag, for example. It was filled with a purified essence extracted from Mimi Flowers and Sleeping Flowers. Just placing it in a room could make someone fall asleep in a second, and they wouldn’t be able to wake up for at least eight to twelve hours. It was a godsend for insomniacs and incredibly valuable, because both Mimi Flowers and Sleeping Flowers were extremely rare and difficult to harvest.
However, the item was useless to Moira Lynch.
Never mind the fact that she didn’t need to sleep; even when she did, her sleep quality was always excellent. She didn’t need any external assistance.
Finally, after opening all the blind boxes, it was time for the last one.
A blind box that cost over ten million. Feeling the immense power radiating from within, Moira Lynch couldn’t help but gasp.
The moment the blind box opened, a powerful force rushed over her. Even though she had been prepared, Moira Lynch was still stunned by the force and took a long moment to recover.
Once her senses fully returned, Moira Lynch finally got a clear look at the item inside the blind box.
It was a square object, about the size of a magic cube, that radiated a faint blue fluorescent light.
Whatever this thing was, Moira Lynch knew one thing for sure: it was definitely something extraordinary.
Seeing an instruction manual to the side, Moira Lynch picked it up and began to read.
[Guardian Magic Cube: A super-item created specifically to protect planets. Once activated, no one can enter the planet protected by the Guardian Magic Cube except for the person holding the key.]
[Furthermore, the protective shield formed by the Guardian Magic Cube is unique. All attacks are ineffective against it; instead, it reflects the attacks back at the aggressor.]
Reading the description of the Guardian Magic Cube, Moira Lynch’s eyes instantly lit up. ’This is practically tailor-made for me!’
She had always been worried about Cloudsea Planet and Veridian Prime being targeted.
Cloudsea Planet had previously been classified as a Garbage Star, but that was in the past. Now, just let someone try calling it a Garbage Star again.
Then there was Veridian Prime.
To be honest, Moira Lynch’s successful acquisition of Veridian Prime had involved a good deal of luck.
’So, which of the two planets should I protect?’
’Wait, the description of the Guardian Magic Cube doesn’t seem to say it can only protect one planet.’
Just then, Moira Lynch suddenly noticed there seemed to be more text on the back of the manual.
She flipped the manual over.
[Friendly Reminder: Activating the Guardian Magic Cube requires a massive amount of energy. A preliminary estimate suggests that sustaining the protection of one planet requires at least the energy of another planet.]
In other words, to protect one planet, she would have to sacrifice another.
’No wonder this thing showed up in a blind box. So it has a serious bug.’
’It needs a huge amount of energy to activate?’
’Speaking of which, I think I have something like that. It’s something I got from that desert island survival game.’
She had put it away because it was quite dangerous.
’Where did I put it?’
Moira Lynch couldn’t quite remember. She had even forgotten the item’s name, and Patience didn’t have it recorded.
’Oh well, I’ll deal with it after I get back from this mission. It’s better to avoid any mistakes right now.’
And so, she temporarily set aside the matter of the Guardian Magic Cube.
As for which planet to protect with the Guardian Magic Cube, she already had an answer in her heart.
...
Several hours later, the starship slowly descended for landing.
"Dear passengers, we have arrived at Pyralia. Please prepare for disembarkation, gather your luggage, and exit in an orderly manner. A friendly reminder: it is currently the hottest time of the year on Pyralia. Please take precautions against the sun. We wish you a pleasant journey."
After they disembarked, a wave of heat washed over them.
The moment Moira Lynch and Hugh Finch set foot on Pyralia, they immediately felt what a "passionate" planet it was.
"Do you feel how hot the bottoms of your feet are?" Hugh Finch suddenly said.
Moira Lynch nodded. "I feel it."
They both looked down and saw that their shoes were already showing faint signs of melting from the high temperature of the ground.
Seeing this, Moira Lynch quickly used her spiritual power to lift them both off the ground.
On the surface, it looked like they were still standing on the ground, but in reality, the soles of their feet were hovering just above it.
But this wasn’t a long-term solution. After all, her spiritual power would eventually run out.
She looked at the people passing by.
The shoes these people wore, though different in style, all had a metallic sheen, clearly indicating they were specially treated.
Just then, Patience spoke up timidly:
[I’m sorry, Master. I forgot about this. The temperature on Pyralia is quite high, and ordinary shoes are very easily damaged when walking on the ground.]
This was basic common knowledge for anyone coming to Pyralia, so no one would bother to explicitly note it, which was why Patience had overlooked it.
"It’s fine, don’t worry about it. The most important thing now is to find a place that sells shoes."
[There’s a shop just ahead, but the prices are a little bit expensive. Also, I suggest you and your friend buy a change of clothes. Master, since you are of The Human Race, the high temperature on Pyralia will cause your clothes to be soaked with sweat in no time.]
[The clothing on Pyralia has good moisture-wicking properties and dries quickly. It would be a good idea to buy an outfit.]
"We don’t need clothes," Moira Lynch refused. "We have Chimefin scales. And even if the Chimefin scales don’t work, we still have the Water-cooling Stone."
They went to the shop Patience had mentioned and bought two pairs of shoes at a price several times higher than normal before finally walking out.
