Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 474 - 464: The Spaceship Trip
At his words, Moira Lynch’s expression returned to normal. "Really? You must have been seeing things."
’It’s not like I did anything to feel guilty about.’
"I probably just rushed over here and got a little winded."
"Oh, I see."
Hugh Finch didn’t press the issue, turning instead to survey the ship’s interior.
Since the journey would take several hours, Moira Lynch had made sure to get two window seats when she bought the tickets so they could enjoy the scenery.
After confirming their seats, the two didn’t sit down right away, heading to the restaurant instead.
Meals were included with their tickets.
There weren’t many people in the restaurant yet, and all the dishes were freshly made. The only downside was that they had arrived a bit early, so many items on the menu hadn’t been prepared and served yet.
"What do you want to drink?" Moira Lynch asked.
"Anything’s fine, as long as it’s non-alcoholic," Hugh Finch said.
After all, they were on a mission; drinking wasn’t a good idea.
At his response, Moira Lynch followed Patience’s instructions and lightly tapped a marked spot on the table. A blue, semi-transparent screen about ten centimeters wide immediately popped up.
The screen displayed descriptions and images for all sorts of beverages—over a hundred different kinds, at a rough estimate.
’So many choices. My indecisiveness is flaring up.’ Moira Lynch had never even heard of most of them.
After a moment of thought, Moira Lynch simply ordered two of the day’s new specials.
Two different drinks instantly appeared on the virtual screen. One was a gradient of green, garnished with pink flowers that gave it a vernal feel, while the other was purple.
Although the colors were different, both drinks were made from the same kind of fruit.
This fruit was the Seven-color Crystal Grapes that Moira Lynch had grown before.
Wanting to try both varieties, Moira Lynch ordered a set for herself and another for Hugh Finch.
A few seconds later, four drinks appeared on the table.
Moira Lynch picked up one of the green drinks and began to sip it as she ordered their food. After all, they hadn’t eaten a thing since last night.
...
By the time the two had finished eating and returned to their seats, the ship had been in flight for a while.
Just then, a pleasant female voice came over the broadcast.
[Attention, valued passengers of interstellar flight GGHUY-765. In seven minutes, we will be passing through an asteroid field. Please do not be alarmed. Remain in your seats and refrain from moving about the cabin.]
As the announcement ended, Moira Lynch felt a slight tremor, but the ship quickly steadied itself.
"Moira, look outside."
At Hugh Finch’s prompt, Moira Lynch turned to look out the window.
Through the thick viewport, the asteroid field outside was clearly visible.
These asteroid fields were all byproducts of asteroids colliding and exploding, or the result of asteroids impacting planets and causing them to shatter.
Due to their unique locations, some asteroid fields had a chance to form spectacular vistas, becoming must-see tourist destinations. The one they were currently passing through, for instance, was a famous travel hot spot.
Moira Lynch looked at the information Patience gave her and shared it with Hugh Finch.
"The asteroids are supposed to glow purple, but I don’t see it. These are just ordinary rocks."
Hugh Finch gazed at the rocks outside, remarking that the reality didn’t live up to the promotional images.
"It’s probably the timing. We’re too late and missed the best viewing time," Moira Lynch said.
According to the data Patience provided, the asteroids in this particular belt were extremely rich in amethyst, which caused them to emit a purple glow when struck by light at a specific time.
"By the way, Patience, I remember you said that gemstones like crystals are very valuable in the interstellar era. Hasn’t anyone tried to extract the amethyst from these rocks?"
[Of course. Quite a few, in fact. When this asteroid belt was first discovered, it caused a great deal of conflict. Ultimately, the Elves, Dwarves, and Angels joined forces to claim it.]
[The asteroid belt didn’t originally look like this. The surfaces of the asteroids were covered in beautiful purple crystals.]
[But those crystals have all been harvested. The remaining amethyst deposits inside the asteroids were abandoned because their purity was too low and the refining process was too difficult.]
[Later, after The Royals took over, they simply converted it into a tourist attraction.]
After the ship passed through the asteroid belt, its Warp Engine activated, and it accelerated beyond the speed of light.
Moira Lynch, sitting in her seat, felt herself pressed back faintly by the acceleration.
For the first few hours, Moira Lynch was captivated by the scenery outside the window. She enthusiastically took photos and recorded videos, planning to show them to Shane Rhodes and Kai York when she returned.
But once the novelty wore off, Moira Lynch started to get bored. Even the most beautiful sights become uninteresting if you stare at them for too long.
With nothing else to do, Moira Lynch sank her consciousness into her personal space and began opening the blind boxes she had.
’I’ll start with the cheap ones and save the most expensive for last.’
Easier said than done. The blind boxes all looked more or less identical on the outside; an ordinary person would have no way of telling them apart.
However, this wasn’t an issue for Moira Lynch.
She couldn’t tell them apart by sight either, but that didn’t matter. She could distinguish them by the energy they emanated.
She picked up one of the blind boxes. Inside was an off-white, hair tie-like object.
She touched it. It felt like a hair tie, too.
A quick search revealed that the hair-tie-like object was the latest product from the Magnus Group, valued at two million Gold Coins.
This little hair tie was not to be underestimated, however. This was merely its initial form.
The Magnus Group specialized in products related to beauty, a fact this new item exemplified.
The hair tie had no combat capabilities, but it could change the wearer’s hairstyle and even hair color to match their mood, outfit, or occasion. It even had the ability to clean and condition hair.
Moira’s eyes locked onto the word "clean." ’This means that if I wear this hair tie, I won’t have to wash my hair anymore!’
Though Moira Lynch loved her gorgeous locks, she had to admit that washing her hair was a real chore.
’Such is the price of beauty, I suppose.’
Moira Lynch opened her eyes, an off-white hair tie now in her hand.
Since she was on a mission, Moira Lynch had her hair tied up in a high bun.
She reached up, deftly undid her bun in a few swift motions, ran her fingers through her hair to straighten it, and then slipped the new hair tie on.
