Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 476 - 466: Arriving at the Destination
Once everything was ready, Moira Lynch and Hugh Finch set off for the mission’s designated location.
Along the way, the pair drew so many stares that their head-turning rate was easily over ninety-five percent.
Hugh Finch noticed the gazes and asked curiously, "Why do I get the feeling that everyone is staring at us?"
Moira Lynch glanced at him. "Be more confident. Drop the ’get the feeling’ part. They *are* staring at us."
"So, do you know why?"
As it happened, she knew the exact reason.
Back in the game, Ellers’ obsession with her blood had prompted her to do some research on the matter.
She had discovered that The Human Race did exist among the stars, but they were not Caelans. Instead, they were a species that had originated on a planet in a different solar system.
In fact, The Federation itself was founded under the leadership of that same group of humans.
However, after so many years of continuous intermarriage with other races, their bloodlines had become increasingly diluted. They would inevitably exhibit at least some minor traits from other races.
These features might not have been obvious, but they were there. As a result, people like Moira Lynch and Hugh Finch, who displayed purely human features, were exceedingly rare.
After listening to Moira Lynch’s explanation, Hugh Finch said, "But when the game teleported us to different planets before, nobody there thought we looked strange."
"I’m not sure about that, either."
Moira admitted she didn’t know the answer to that. "Perhaps the game system did something to conceal it. Although, during my mission with The Crimson Alliance, someone did recognize me for what I am. Others didn’t seem to notice, but the person who did was a scientist."
Since neither of them could explain the phenomenon, they decided to just chalk it up to the game system.
Then, an idea struck Moira Lynch. She closed her eyes, and about three seconds later, a pair of fluffy white fox ears appeared on her head.
Hugh Finch stared in shock at her transformation. "Don’t tell me you’re not a pure human anymore," he said.
He suddenly recalled the Genetic Potions sold in Moira Lynch’s shop, which allowed one to integrate different genes after drinking them.
On Caelus’s network, the more famous influencers had almost all used the Genetic Potion to gain elven traits.
Hearing Hugh Finch’s question, Moira Lynch couldn’t help but roll her eyes. "What are you talking about? Of course I’m human. These ears are Snowy’s—it’s my Spiritual Body. Some of its physical traits can manifest on me."
’I was originally thinking of manifesting the tails, too, but fox tails are too conspicuous,’ she thought. ’Especially since Snowy has nine of them. If they all appeared at once, I’d look like a peacock fanning its tail from a distance. Plus, they’d take up way too much space. Better not.’
Moira Lynch’s reminder was a revelation for Hugh Finch. After asking her how she did it, he too closed his eyes.
Three seconds later, white scales began to materialize on his face and arms.
The scales would appear and then quickly vanish. This flickered back and forth several times until finally, only the faint impression of a few scales remained on his forehead.
Once they both displayed non-human traits, the stares fixed upon them finally disappeared.
When they arrived at the designated meeting point, they found the place was absolutely packed.
However, it didn’t take Moira Lynch and Hugh Finch long to find the person they were looking for.
In the middle of the dense crowd, someone was holding a dazzling golden sign with a line written in huge letters: "B-rank adventurer and your companion, over here."
The sign was so conspicuous, it would have been difficult for Moira Lynch to pretend she hadn’t seen it.
"Is it just you?"
Since Moira Lynch was officially the B-rank adventurer, it was naturally she who asked the question.
"It’s too crowded here. The others are waiting elsewhere," the man explained after confirming their identities.
"There are others? Besides the two of us, other adventurers took this mission too?" Moira Lynch pressed.
The man nodded. "That’s right. We need a fairly large group."
B-rank adventurers held a high status in the galaxy. Perhaps afraid that Moira Lynch would get angry—since they hadn’t specified this detail in the mission posting—the man hurried to explain.
The number of people was irrelevant; Moira Lynch didn’t care. She was concerned about something else entirely.
"The number of people doesn’t matter, as long as the promised points and rewards for the mission remain the same."
Her meaning was clear: she didn’t care how many people were involved, but she expected to receive every last point she was promised.
’After all, wasn’t it for the points that Hugh Finch took this mission in the first place?’
’The points for this mission were a lot for two people to split, but if they were divided among several people, or even a dozen, they wouldn’t get much at all. It would be no different from a normal mission.’
’In that case, we might as well have just stayed and ground normal missions. At least those don’t require us to travel all the way to another planet.’
The man naturally caught the meaning behind Moira’s words and quickly replied, "You can rest assured on that point. Once the mission is complete, I guarantee every single promised point will appear in your account."
"Good enough."
The pair followed him into a large hall where a number of people had already gathered—seven or eight of them, at a glance.
Judging by their attire and the auras they exuded, they all seemed to be adventurers.
Among them were two B-rank adventurers and one A-rank adventurer.
Including Moira Lynch, the group now totaled one A-rank adventurer and three B-rank adventurers. The rest, like Hugh Finch, were just tagging along for the points.
Since adventurer profiles were registered under their real names, the two B-rank adventurers and the A-rank adventurer recognized Moira Lynch the moment she walked in.
"You must be Moira Lynch! It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m Eri, B-rank adventurer."
As she finished, the other B-rank adventurer introduced himself. "I’m Kent, B-rank adventurer."
The only A-rank adventurer in the room simply stated with a cool expression, "Aiden Hayes. A-rank."
The fact that Moira Lynch had captured two A-rank fugitives at once, catapulting her adventurer rank straight to B-rank, had caused a massive stir in adventurer circles.
The B-rank adventurer named Eri grabbed Moira’s hand with a warm smile. "I’d heard an incredible newcomer showed up this year, but I never expected you to be so young! Looking at your features, you must be from the White Fox Clan or The Snowfox Tribe, right? Where’s your hometown? Perhaps we’re from the same region!"
