Chapter 447 - 437: Seafaring Carnival 39

Logically, a malfunction like this shouldn’t be happening.

Overweight?

’That’s impossible.’

Because of the lost cargo, the freighter’s current weight should be far less than its original weight.

You could say we’re traveling light now, so how could it possibly be overweight?

Just as everyone was racking their brains, another crewman seemed to recall something and said, "Before we set sail, I saw the captain surface from the water several times."

"Also, we’re normally supposed to clean the barnacles and things off the hull and patch up any chipped paint to prevent corrosion from the seawater. That’s all our job, but this time the captain refused. He said he’d already assigned those tasks to someone else and that we only needed to inspect the ship itself."

"Maybe I’m just overthinking it, but I always felt the captain was acting strange before we left, like he had a guilty conscience or something."

The assistant said jokingly.

But while the words were spoken idly, they were heard with great interest.

Moira Lynch, who had already scanned the entire ship inside and out countless times with her spiritual power, knew there was nothing on board that could possibly be causing the freighter to be overweight.

Even the original shipping containers were gone, except for the few holding food. The rest were all empty.

Then the players had dismantled those empty containers and used them as materials to repair the freighter.

Recalling what the assistant had just said, Moira Lynch thought, ’Maybe I missed something.’

’The hull?’

Moira Lynch closed her eyes and meticulously inspected the hull once more.

Having sailed the seas for several months, the hull was now covered in many barnacle-like growths.

Other than that, there was nothing.

Moira Lynch’s brow furrowed.

Although the two assistants had decided to go around the Kraken’s territory, the players didn’t have enough time.

They now had only two paths before them.

Either speed up the freighter, or cut through the Kraken’s territory.

Shane Rhodes and the others, however, thought it must be a system error.

It had been checked before they set sail, but what if it broke down after they left?

So, they prepared to conduct a major inspection of the freighter to find the cause.

They naturally hoped to bypass the Kraken’s territory and clear the game safely. If that really wasn’t an option, then they would have to choose the second path and risk crossing through its domain.

After all, they didn’t want to lose their eligibility to play the game.

Everyone was busy with their own tasks, so naturally, no one noticed anything unusual about Moira Lynch’s situation—except for one person.

Hugh Finch came to Moira Lynch’s side and asked, "Have you found the source of the problem?"

Moira Lynch recounted what the assistant had just told her.

"I think the problem might be with the hull, but I just checked it many times with my spiritual power and found nothing."

Hearing this, Hugh Finch thought for a moment and said, "Since you can talk to me directly by creating a Communication Corridor, can you share your vision? I mean, through your spiritual power. I want to see for myself."

A suspicion had formed in Hugh Finch’s mind, but it could only be confirmed by seeing it with his own eyes.

"I’ve never tried that, but I can give it a shot."

Moira Lynch considered this. ’Sharing my spiritual power with someone shouldn’t be too hard... right?’

After speaking, Moira Lynch closed her eyes, and the spiritual power around her surged into Hugh Finch’s brain like countless tentacles.

For a moment, Hugh Finch felt as if his brain was about to explode, but the sensation was also magical.

He felt like a fish, swimming freely in a boundless ocean.

"So this is the world through your eyes?"

After learning about Moira Lynch’s true ability, Hugh Finch had made a special effort to research the Spiritual System. He could only say that no matter how detailed a written description was, it couldn’t compare to the shock of experiencing it firsthand.

But despite the shock, Hugh Finch hadn’t forgotten the important matter at hand.

After a careful inspection, he soon discovered a seam in one spot on the hull.

"Here. The hull we’re seeing now isn’t the real one. It’s been artificially thickened, probably as a cover-up."

Hearing Hugh Finch say this, Moira Lynch took a closer look, and sure enough, he was right.

The seam was so small you couldn’t see it without looking very closely.

If Hugh Finch hadn’t already suspected something, he probably wouldn’t have found it either.

Now that they had found the cause of the excess weight, the rest would be easy.

She first took out something that looked like a laser pointer.

Item Name: Dissolving Laser Pointer

Item No.: 437

Ability: Can dissolve any adhesive. Even the strongest glue will turn into a puddle of water in its presence.

’I can’t believe these weird little gadgets actually came in handy. Good thing I didn’t sell them.’

As she thought this, Moira Lynch aimed the laser pointer at the seam.

About ten or so minutes later, the freighter’s bottom panel fell right off.

It really was just glued on. What was revealed underneath was the true hull. ’A piece that big, no wonder we were overweight.’

Watching the fake hull panel sink rapidly into the sea, Moira Lynch thought for a moment and decisively stored it in her personal space.

’Anything the captain went to such great lengths to hide must be valuable.’

Freed of the burden, the freighter finally returned to normal. It no longer registered as overweight, and its speed increased, which was what caused the other players to feel that sudden push back into their seats.

After spending some time together, the two assistants learned why Moira Lynch and her group were there and why they had knocked out the captain. The fear in their eyes gradually faded.

Once they knew the real reason, they glanced at the still-unconscious captain with complicated expressions, and the last shred of sympathy in their eyes vanished.

"Even if the timing isn’t perfect, it’s very close to the Kraken’s mating season. Logically, the captain shouldn’t have been so quick to dismiss it. He should have at least sent someone to scout things out. We’re talking about the Kraken, after all. Even if it was a false alarm, he should have been cautious instead of just stubbornly making a decision based on his own experience."

"It’s probably because I refused to sell him the Ghost Cat Owl before, so he resented us for it," Moira Lynch said.

Ever since awakening her Spiritual System ability, Moira Lynch had been exceptionally sensitive to emotions, especially those directed at her.

So, from the very first time the captain approached her, she knew he was up to no good. During their more recent meeting, his malice had been completely undisguised.

As the saying goes, an eye for an eye. Faced with the captain’s ill will, Moira Lynch had used every ounce of her strength when she knocked him out earlier.

If the One-Hit-KO Baseball Bat didn’t just knock people out without causing any real harm, it’s debatable whether the captain would even be breathing right now.

Hearing Moira Lynch say this, the two assistants exchanged a look, a flash of embarrassment in their eyes.

After all, they had agreed with the captain back then and had even offered up a few wicked ideas of their own.
