Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 446 - 436: Sailing Carnival 38
Because no one here knew how to sail a ship, or rather, how to pilot *this* ship.
So, Moira Lynch had Patience search the Astranet for information. It might not be complete, but something was better than nothing.
However, Patience searched for a long time but only found bits and pieces. Most of it was just simple introductions that were completely useless.
The reason it couldn’t find anything wasn’t that the cargo ship’s system was too advanced. On the contrary, the piloting system was incredibly old—a relic that had been phased out for who knows how long.
Not only that, but there were also many obviously modified parts in the cockpit, which made piloting it even more difficult. After all, everyone’s piloting habits were different, and there was no telling how they had customized it.
After a long while, Patience finally unearthed a user manual for this cargo ship’s system from some obscure corner of the web.
After a quick look, it was clear that the manual wasn’t very helpful.
Shane Rhodes and the others, who had also finished reading the document, slowly looked up from their Intelligent Brains, five pairs of slightly dazed eyes fixed on Moira Lynch.
Kai York was the first to speak. "Moira, are you sure this is the user manual? Nothing in here looks like what’s in the manual."
’Even if the manual shows a brand-new version, the difference is just too huge.’
At this, Moira Lynch opened her mouth but didn’t know what to say.
’I miscalculated. I never expected their modifications would be this extensive.’
’Can’t rely on the manual now. The only thing to rely on is...’
Moira Lynch’s gaze fell on the unconscious captain lying on the floor.
When it came to who knew this ship best, it was undoubtedly the captain himself.
However, Moira Lynch could be rather petty. She didn’t want to wake the captain, nor did she want to ask for his help. So, her gaze only lingered on him for a few seconds before shifting to the two assistants nearby.
Besides the captain, the only other people who knew how to pilot the ship best were these two assistants.
The others noticed Moira’s glance and immediately understood.
Fortunately, Moira Lynch hadn’t been too heavy-handed when she dealt with the two assistants earlier.
As a result, the two assistants quickly regained consciousness.
To them, it just felt like they’d had a nap. Their bodies felt no discomfort; in fact, they felt quite refreshed.
In all their months at sea, they hadn’t had such a comfortable sleep in a long time.
Since the cockpit could never be left unmanned, everything they did, including sleeping, was always rushed.
Just as the two opened their eyes and were about to stretch, a strange face appeared before them, startling them.
"Who are you people? Why are you here?" one of the assistants demanded.
The other assistant, however, was calmer, as he recognized Moira Lynch and her companions.
Although they spent most of their time in the cockpit, Moira Lynch’s group was very famous, so he had some impression of them.
Moreover, one of them had recently tamed a Ghost Cat Owl, which had caused quite a stir.
As assistants, they naturally knew the captain wanted that Ghost Cat Owl.
But a few days ago, the captain had gone out in high spirits only to return in a rage. The negotiations must have failed.
"This is the cockpit. It’s filled with precision instruments, and no one is allowed to enter without the captain’s permission. If you have business here, please wait outside or tell us, and we will relay your message to the captain afterward," the assistant said.
Moira Lynch tilted her head, a harmless-looking smile on her face as she pointed behind her. "Are you talking about him?"
The unconscious captain had been blocked from view by the crowd of people. Now, following Moira Lynch’s gesture, the two assistants finally saw him lying senseless on the floor, their eyes widening in shock.
At the same time, the look in their eyes as they gazed at Moira Lynch’s group changed from serious to tinged with a faint fear.
Only then did they realize that the people standing before them had not come in peace.
Just then, Kai York took a few steps forward, a roguish grin on his face. "Friends, I have a small favor I need your help with. I’m sure you won’t refuse, will you?"
His words were polite, but his blatantly threatening gaze seemed to say, ’If you dare to refuse, you’re dead.’
Faced with six pairs of predatory eyes, the two weak, pitiful, and helpless assistants nodded vigorously.
And so, in the time that followed, Moira Lynch and her group began their learning journey.
They had nothing else to do for the rest of the voyage anyway, so they might as well learn some useful skills. As the saying goes, knowledge gained is profit earned.
After hearing about the Kraken, the two assistants didn’t dismiss it based on experience like the captain had. Instead, they took the threat very seriously.
Adopting a "better safe than sorry" attitude, the two assistants decisively chose to bypass the dangerous area.
Once Moira Lynch and her group officially took control of the cargo ship, the other players and sailors on board could clearly feel the vessel speed up—the evidence was that momentary feeling of being pushed back in their seats.
It was also through the assistants’ explanation that they learned the cargo ship’s current speed was not its limit.
"If you could have completed the journey faster all along, why were you going at the slowest speed?" Moira Lynch asked, confused.
In Moira Lynch’s view, shouldn’t missions be completed as quickly as possible?
One of the assistants shook his head. "Those were the captain’s orders. We were just following them. We don’t know anything else."
They were just assistants, usually only responsible for helping the captain, ensuring the ship didn’t go off course when he was away, and providing timely support during emergencies.
Upon learning that the cargo ship could go faster, Moira Lynch’s group decisively chose to increase the speed.
They learned from the two assistants that the Kraken’s territory was enormous. Detouring around it would take at least a month, and they couldn’t afford to wait that long.
However, when they tried to accelerate, the system displayed a "ship overweight" warning. The current speed was already the maximum; it could not be increased further.
"It’s not because this ship’s system is too old, is it?" Hugh Finch said.
He already knew from Moira Lynch that this cargo ship used a system that had been phased out long ago.
’Some glitches would be understandable.’
At that, one of the assistants spoke up righteously. "That’s impossible. Although this ship uses a system that was phased out long ago, it was actually modified to be virtually identical to the most advanced navigation systems available today."
"And as for a malfunction, that’s even more impossible. We conduct thorough inspections before every departure to ensure the cargo ship has no problems whatsoever."
