Chapter 448 - 438: Sailing Carnival 40

Feeling guilty, the two assistants kept their distance from Moira Lynch for some time.

Moira, for her part, paid them no mind.

The cargo ship had picked up speed, meaning they might even be able to complete their mission ahead of schedule.

This was good news.

She knew from a previous message from Patience that this was especially good news. Because players like them had been away for so long, Caelus was now a powder keg, ready to explode at the slightest spark.

Fortunately, the rest of the journey went smoothly.

As they neared the Kraken’s territory, the cargo ship suddenly shuddered. Thankfully, the two assistants were experienced. Under their command, the ship navigated the danger without incident.

Driven by curiosity, Moira Lynch went up to the deck.

Quite a few players had already gathered there, all on high alert with grim expressions.

A young man stood at the very front, his hands shaped like binoculars as he stared motionlessly in a specific direction.

Moira recognized him. His name was Mr. Revel.

His ability was a support type, allowing him to turn his hands into binoculars—a variation of the Thousand-mile Eye ability.

Just then, another gigantic wave came crashing toward the ship.

Seeing this, everyone scrambled for cover.

Moira ducked behind a pillar, wrapping her arms tightly around it.

When the wave passed, everyone on deck was soaked to the bone. A few players who hadn’t taken cover properly were swept overboard.

’What in the world is going on?’

Her curiosity getting the better of her, a pair of snow-white wings unfurled from Moira’s back. With a single flap, she soared into the air.

After flying high into the sky, she still couldn’t see the source of the waves. Instead, she spotted an even larger one hurtling toward them.

"Watch out! Another wave is coming!"

Moira shouted a warning to the players below while she herself flapped her wings and flew even higher.

’I probably couldn’t see it because I wasn’t high enough.’

This time, not only did Moira fly to a higher altitude, but she also pulled a pair of binoculars out of her inventory.

That’s right—another item.

Item No. 438: a pair of binoculars.

It was a beginner-level item. Aside from its function as binoculars, it also had a recording feature. That was it.

Moira had a ton of such useless items; she couldn’t even sell them, so she was just stuck with them.

With the aid of the binoculars, Moira finally got a clear look at what was going on.

On the surface of the sea, countless massive tentacles were tangled together, while several enormous heads bobbed in and out of view.

The waves had been inadvertently created by these tentacles as they frolicked with one another.

’This couldn’t be the Kraken, could it?’

Moira’s question was quickly answered by Patience.

[Yes, that’s correct. These are the Krakens. They are currently mating, which is when they are most sensitive and irritable. You must not disturb them.]

’...’ Moira thought. ’Of course I know not to disturb them at a time like this.’

Just then, Moira decided to return to the ship. ’This is definitely not for kids, and I’m still young, after all,’ she thought wryly. ’Watching this for too long will give me a stye.’

Just then, Patience’s cheerful voice chimed in.

[Master, there’s a quest available, would you like to accept? The points are high and the rewards are generous! It might be a little dangerous for others, but for you, it’ll be a piece of cake.]

Hearing this, Moira’s interest was piqued. "What quest?"

[Quest issued by Researcher Ellers: Record the entire mating process of the Krakens. Reward: one Verasi Potion.]

’A quest from Ellers, of all people.’

Hearing a familiar name, Moira’s expression turned nostalgic. ’That guy still owes me and Black Wolf a suit of armor.’

Moira and Ellers had kept in intermittent contact ever since they finished that last mission together.

Ellers would complain to her about his troubles, and Moira would occasionally offer a brief reply, always making sure to ask about the progress on her armor.

But since this game session began, she hadn’t contacted Ellers at all.

’I should check my private messages.’ Sure enough, she had 99+ notifications from Ellers.

"By the way, what exactly is a Verasi Potion?"

Snapping out of her reverie, Moira turned her attention to the reward.

Verasi Potion.

It was a term she’d never heard before, exposing a gap in her knowledge.

[The Verasi Potion is a medicine made from something called a Verasi Star. A person can only take it once in their lifetime. It can raise a person’s ability level and even help their ability evolve.]

Moira’s eyes widened. ’The Verasi Potion is that powerful? Even if you can only use it once, that’s more than enough. It raises your ability level and helps it evolve... If it could be mass-produced, wouldn’t that make someone invincible?’

Her own ability had been stuck at Level 3 for a long time, unable to break through to Level 4. Not long ago, while fighting that clever octopus, she had vaguely felt the threshold of Level 4, but it always seemed like something was missing.

The feeling was one of utter powerlessness, like standing before a stunning beauty—fair skin, gorgeous face, legs for days—and just as you’re about to make your move, you realize you’re a eunuch.

Moira, who had been about to leave just a moment ago, immediately changed her mind. She whipped out her binoculars and switched on the recording function.

"By the way, Patience, is the Verasi Potion very rare?"

[Extremely rare. Verasi Stars are unique to the Verasi System. They just float in space, and each one is as small as a speck of dust. It takes a kilogram of Verasi Stars to refine a single bottle of Verasi Potion. Currently, the entire remaining supply of Verasi Potions is in the hands of the Royal Court.]

"The remaining supply?"

Moira seized on the key word.

’Even if Verasi Stars are that rare, "remaining" seems like an odd choice of words,’ she thought. ’Does that mean the potions are no longer being produced?’

[The Verasi System was destroyed ten years ago. After its destruction, the Verasi Stars ceased to exist, so naturally, no one can produce Verasi Potions anymore.]

A whole system, destroyed?

Moira was stunned. To be honest, the concept was a bit much for her to process.

Take Caelus, for instance. In its current state, she had contemplated the extinction of humanity, but she’d never imagined Caelus itself could just vanish, to say nothing of the entire Helion System.

Unfortunately, since the Verasi System had been destroyed a decade ago, Moira had no way of finding any information about the real story, even if she wanted to.
