Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging

Chapter 304 - 294: Blind Box Face-off 9

Moira Lynch dove right into the warehouse.

’These are all great finds.’

Especially the pickled mustard greens.

On Caelus, a packet of pickled mustard greens was even more expensive than fresh vegetables.

Fresh vegetables didn’t keep well and had to be cooked before eating. But pickled mustard greens were different. They came in small packets, required no cooking, and could be eaten right after opening.

The interstellar version of these pickles was clearly larger than the ones on Caelus, and there were many more varieties.

Moira Lynch checked the production date. They wouldn’t expire for another month.

The various sauces had half a month left.

’I’ll take them all!’

Finally, just before the processing plant closed, Moira Lynch managed to clear out all the near-expiration products from the warehouse.

Walking down the brightly lit streets, it was clear the nightlife was just beginning.

Since she couldn’t go to any other factories, Moira Lynch decided to wander around for a bit before finding a place to rest.

"This really is the biggest mystery box production site in the entire galaxy."

Just along the way, Moira Lynch saw all sorts of mystery boxes for sale.

And every single person selling them was surrounded by a crowd.

’The shops nearby aren’t even closed yet, and you can buy everything inside the mystery boxes right there. Why are these people so obsessed with them?’

As she walked, Moira Lynch’s gaze suddenly fell upon a particular stall.

"Warm and Fuzzy Mystery Boxes?"

Moira Lynch walked over curiously and found that the boxes were all very crudely packaged.

Of all the stalls she had seen, this one had the fewest people.

Even when someone did stop, they would just take a look and walk away.

Seeing Moira Lynch approach, the stall owner, despite thinking she probably wouldn’t buy anything, still gave a warm introduction. "Miss, come take a look at my mystery boxes! They’re very cheap, and I guarantee you’ll get something good inside."

"What kind of mystery boxes are these?" Moira Lynch asked.

She had just scanned them with her spiritual power and found that each box was stuffed full, making it impossible to see what was inside.

"They’re plush pillows," the stall owner answered honestly. "I make all these dolls at home. They’re filled with Emberfleece cotton and stuffed with flower petals that help you sleep."

[Emberfleece Cotton: A type of cotton that can generate its own heat. It was originally discovered on the planet Emberfleece and later spread to other regions.]

"Are they all plush pillows inside?" Moira Lynch asked.

Hearing this, the stall owner replied affirmatively, "Of course. I actually used to just sell the plushies on their own, but sales were poor. Later, I thought about packaging them as mystery boxes, but because I didn’t have enough money..."

So after packaging them in such an awful way, sales got even worse.

Seeing that someone was finally interested in buying his plush pillows, and to prove he was telling the truth, the stall owner actually tore open all the mystery boxes right there in public.

Seeing this, Moira Lynch froze on the spot.

But don’t misunderstand. She wasn’t stunned by the stall owner’s actions, but by the fact that in an instant, several more arms had sprouted from his back.

Moira Lynch quickly realized it must be some kind of talent.

[Thousand Hands: An Awakener with this talent will grow one to ten extra hands. As their power increases, the number of hands will continue to grow, with a rumored maximum of one thousand, hence the name Thousand Hands.]

’That talent sounds pretty useful. With a thousand hands, couldn’t you do a lot of things at once?’

However, dividing one’s attention between two tasks, let alone many, was no simple matter.

While Moira Lynch was lost in thought, the stall owner had already unwrapped all the mystery boxes, revealing one plush pillow after another.

Each plushie was a different shape, but the one thing they had in common was their exquisite craftsmanship.

"I’ll take them all," Moira Lynch said readily.

Who could possibly refuse to fall asleep in the cold winter hugging a warm pillow?

After paying, Moira Lynch stored away all the plush pillows and continued on her way.

Along the way, she saw many food stalls.

Whenever she saw something she liked, Moira Lynch would stop and buy some. After all, it was a rare opportunity.

She ambled along, stopping here and there.

Just then, a girl in a cute outfit appeared on a huge screen not far away.

Moira Lynch noticed that the moment the girl appeared, everyone’s gaze was drawn to her.

’So people in the galaxy follow celebrities too?’

But she soon realized something was wrong, because even she had been unconsciously captivated by the girl on the screen.

It wasn’t until the girl disappeared that Moira Lynch snapped out of it.

"Patience, did the person on the screen just now have an Awakened talent similar to Charm?"

You have to understand, Moira Lynch had never been one to follow celebrities, not in her past life or this one.

[It’s the talent Spotlight. As long as the Awakener activates this talent, all surrounding eyes will be focused on them.

People who awaken the Spotlight talent usually choose to become stars or other public figures.]

Having had her fill of wandering, Moira Lynch, guided by Patience, easily found a place to stay.

After checking in, Moira Lynch went to her room.

Seeing the soft, cloud-shaped king-size bed, she flopped right onto it.

She opened her Intelligent Brain and, as expected, saw a lot of unread messages.

[Kai York: @Moira, how come you’ve been quiet all day?]

[Moira Lynch: @Kai York, I’m out. Haven’t been checking messages.]

[Hugh Finch: ??!!!]

[Shane Rhodes: ??!!!]

[Shane Rhodes: Out? As in, the ’out’ we’re thinking of?]

[Moira Lynch: I think so.]

[Hugh Finch: You finished your mission?]

[Moira Lynch: Yep. I can use the rest of the time freely, so I came out.]

...

「The next day.」

Moira Lynch woke up early and went to a mechanical processing plant she had picked out the day before.

This place produced all kinds of small, fully-automated toys, but you shouldn’t underestimate it.

A long time ago, this factory specialized in making palm-sized screens.

Moira Lynch had come here this time to see if she could try her luck.

However, it seemed she was a little early; the place wasn’t open yet.

Bored, Moira Lynch started counting mushrooms off to the side.

She waited until seven o’clock, when the factory’s main gate finally slid open slowly, and a sleepy-eyed robot walked out.

Seeing this, Moira Lynch darted forward.

The robot detected someone rushing toward it and, thinking it was a thug looking for trouble, subconsciously prepared to draw its weapon and counterattack.

"Whoa, don’t be hasty! We’re on the same side, same side!"

The robot saw Moira Lynch’s youthful face, which made her look like she wasn’t even an adult yet, then noticed the badge on her chest. Only then did it lower its weapon.

"We’re not hiring Recyclers," the robot said, confused.

"Not hiring?"

Only then did Moira Lynch remember that the job posting she had seen seemed to be from six months ago.

’Well, this is awkward.’
