Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 300 - 290: Blind Box Bumper 5
Hearing this, a single thought surfaced in Moira Lynch’s mind: ’As expected.’
Moira Lynch immediately followed up, "So, do all these blind boxes sell out every year?"
The robot shook its head. "Some of the limited-edition blind boxes sell out because of scarcity marketing, but others don’t."
"Take these ones you’re packing right now, for example. Most of the time, they don’t sell out."
"Then where do the unsold blind boxes go?" Moira Lynch asked.
"They’re put in the warehouse, of course. Then, once they accumulate to a certain number, a Recycler is hired to come and dispose of them. After all, it’s all useless stuff that couldn’t be sold even after several rounds."
Hearing this, Moira Lynch was starting to get the picture.
Soon, an hour was up.
The three robots stopped working in unison. Their screens pivoted, and their blue electronic eyes turned to look at her.
"An hour has passed. How was our work speed? Do you want to hire us for another hour?"
Hearing the robot’s words, Moira Lynch wondered if she’d misheard. She could have sworn she detected a pleading tone in its voice.
Moira Lynch nodded. "Alright, one more hour."
At this, the three robots seemed very disappointed, but they didn’t refuse. After accepting the silver coins, they resumed their work.
It was then that Moira Lynch noticed these three robots seemed a bit different from the ones she had encountered before. They even had something on them that looked like rust spots.
They weren’t clean like the other robots she’d seen, which reflected a metallic sheen under the light.
The material they were made of seemed different, too.
When faced with a question she couldn’t answer, Moira Lynch directly asked Patience.
"Patience, these three robots in front of me seem... a little different."
Moira Lynch wanted to say they were different from the robots she’d met in the first and second rounds of the game, but then she remembered Patience hadn’t been with her back then, so she rephrased her question.
"Of course they’re different. These are old models from a long time ago, the eleventh generation. The robots in the galaxy now have been updated to the twenty-fifth generation."
"What’s the difference?"
Before the apocalypse, phones on Caelus were also upgraded at a dizzying pace. Every time, they’d announce new features and breakthroughs, but what was the actual result?
Other than the price getting higher and higher, there wasn’t much of a change. At least, Moira Lynch never felt one.
"Of course there’s a difference. Take the new generation of robots, for example. Their movements are more agile, their work efficiency is higher, and they possess independent thought. They can live completely as independent individuals. The eleventh-generation robots are still just tool-bots. They need to be supplied with energy to survive."
"Energy? What kind of energy? Would electricity work?"
"Of course it would. No, wait. With the continuous development of the galaxy, charging stations that can power these robots are becoming scarcer and scarcer."
After an hour, Moira Lynch hired them for another hour, and then another, until the three robots had finished packing all the blind boxes in the room.
The moment the last blind box was packed, the game system’s voice sounded in Moira Lynch’s ear.
"Congratulations to player SoySauceDrunkard on completing the mission. You now have two choices. One: Continue working. You can earn a greater reward, and you will no longer be restricted by game missions.
Two: End the mission. You will be free to move about as you please for the remaining time, but you must not do anything to dishonor this system. Additionally, your wages will be much lower compared to other players.
Please make your choice."
Looking at the two choices, Moira Lynch didn’t even have to think before she chose the second one.
’Let someone else be the sucker.’
’She was the second-richest person on Caelus. She didn’t need to survive on peanuts. Whoever wanted to be a beast of burden could go right ahead.’
After Moira Lynch made her choice, the large door behind her slid open.
Having completed their task, the three robots quickly turned and left.
Moira Lynch walked out of the room into a world of white, with blue fluorescent light glowing from the cracks and seams. The whole place practically screamed high-tech.
All sorts of robots occasionally passed by. Upon seeing Moira Lynch, one wearing a uniform stopped to scan her identity.
At that, Moira Lynch took out her Recycler badge.
After scanning the badge, the robot spoke.
"Junior Recycler, you’re not at your post. Why are you here?"
Facing the robot’s questioning, Moira Lynch said calmly, "It’s my first day. I got lost."
The robot only hesitated for a moment before replying. "Follow me."
’This person looks young. She probably isn’t lying.’
Moira Lynch was already ecstatic.
’It was just as the saying goes: after searching high and low, it fell right into my lap.’
She followed the robot through a series of twists and turns, and they soon arrived at their destination.
It was called a warehouse, but it was more like a massive scrapyard, piled high with all kinds of blind boxes.
Some of the blind boxes had been sitting there for so long they had been crushed flat by newer arrivals piled on top.
Seeing this, Moira Lynch’s heart ached. ’I hope the contents aren’t broken.’
As soon as the robot left, Moira Lynch happily dove toward the pile of blind boxes.
She didn’t even care that the Moon Wheel and Calming Bell had just drained three-quarters of her spiritual power. She still had a quarter left, and that was enough.
Moira Lynch first picked up the blind box closest to her.
It was a toy blind box, and inside was a toy spaceship.
It was called a toy spaceship, but it was actually a 1:1 scale replica of a real one, just smaller. Every single component inside was incredibly detailed.
Moira Lynch glanced at the spaceship models listed on the blind box.
The black and gold one she was holding was actually a secret model.
Even so, judging by the dust on the box, these spaceship blind boxes must have been sitting here for a very long time.
Without a shred of hesitation, Moira Lynch stuffed all the spaceship blind boxes into her storage space.
After collecting all the spaceship blind boxes, Moira Lynch finally had some room to stand.
She picked up another blind box and opened it. Inside was a chubby, pink, ball-shaped doll that looked rather cute.
There was no other information in the box, so Moira Lynch could only turn to Patience.
"Bubble Chubby-Dragon: A toy developed specifically for preschool children. Squeeze it hard in your hand, and countless bubbles will appear and surround you. These bubbles are sturdier than ordinary ones and don’t pop easily."
Although it didn’t seem very useful, Moira Lynch liked bubbles.
After stowing all the Bubble Chubby-Dragon blind boxes in her storage space, Moira Lynch spotted a new type of blind box.
