Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 262: Elf and Sugar 3
As the sprite ate the candy, Moira Lynch used her spiritual power to try and communicate with it.
’Since they have no combat ability, just like the Flower Sprites, and aren’t even acknowledged by The Elven Race, I might as well bring them to live with the Root-Flower Elven Sect of Veridian Prime. It would be a good way to enrich the planet’s biodiversity.’
Communication went very smoothly.
When Candy heard mention of the Flower Sprites, its big, round eyes widened. It then began to fly in happy circles around Moira Lynch.
"Candy! Candy!"
’Really? Really? I want to go! I want to go!’
Don’t be fooled by the fact that the Candy sprites could live on elven territory, unlike the Flower Sprites who were driven away. In truth, their lives here were difficult.
The Sea Sprites didn’t drive them away, but they did treat them like pets.
When they were in a good mood, they’d give the sprites something to eat. When they were in a bad mood, they’d kick them away.
So, when Candy heard Moira Lynch was going to take it away to find the Flower Sprites, it immediately agreed.
"You agreed so readily. Aren’t you afraid I might be a bad person?"
At her words, Candy blinked. "Candy."
’You gave me candy, so you can’t be a bad person. Besides, even if you were, you wouldn’t target us. We’re useless.’
’We wouldn’t even fetch a good price as pets.’
Just as Moira Lynch was about to pull it into her storage space, Candy called out to stop her.
"Candy!"
’Wait, I’ll go get the others.’
With that said, Candy flew off in a flash.
’With a personality that naive, it’d probably help count the money after being sold.’
Moira Lynch shook her head and sat down to wait.
About twenty minutes later, Moira Lynch sensed a swarm of Candy sprites flying quickly in her direction.
Afraid their arrival would attract the attention of other players, Moira sent a quick greeting with her spiritual power before pulling them all into her storage space.
The Candy sprites were startled by the sudden change of environment, but their fear vanished the moment they found themselves in an orchard.
’So much fruit... This must be heaven!’
A clearly older Candy sprite called over the one Moira had first met. A small, snow-white hand emerged from its body, and it patted the younger sprite’s shoulder with a gratified look.
"Candy."
’Good child. Well done.’
"Candy!"
The praised Candy sprite chirped happily in response.
When the break was over, the players went back to work.
After a morning of trial and error, Moira Lynch had figured out how to use the axe. Chopping the jumbo sugarcane was now twice as efficient, and her speed had increased considerably.
While felling the jumbo sugarcane, Moira Lynch discovered many newly sprouted saplings among the stalks.
In the spirit of not letting anything go to waste, Moira Lynch collected all the saplings and planted them in her storage space.
Throughout the afternoon, two Sea Sprites would occasionally drop by to check on them and make sure no one was slacking off.
Four hours later, the two Sea Sprites appeared again, pushing a cart full of desserts.
Moira Lynch checked the time. It was exactly 6:00 PM.
"Work is over for the day. You can all rest now. Please, have something to eat. After you’re finished, you can choose to either continue working or rest for the night. We’ll provide extra compensation for anyone who chooses to keep working."
Moira Lynch took her portion of the dessert. ’Isn’t this just overtime?’ she thought.
’Still, it’s much better than some of those unscrupulous companies that don’t pay for overtime. At least here it’s genuinely voluntary, and they’re actually offering a bonus.’
Eager to get ahead in the game, some players chose to continue working. Most of them were people with physical enhancement talents; for others, the spirit was willing, but the flesh was weak.
After all, they still had two days to go. They couldn’t afford to burn themselves out on the very first day.
Deciding it wasn’t worth the risk, these people chose to rest. Moira Lynch, however, chose to contact Eleanor Vaughn.
She first left with the group that was going to rest. The Sea Sprites had prepared special Elf Tree Houses for them to stay in.
Just as they were about to reach the Elf Tree Houses, Moira Lynch changed her direction.
"Patience, contact Eleanor Vaughn."
A moment later, a communication interface appeared in front of Moira Lynch.
After two rings, the call was answered.
Eleanor Vaughn’s smiling, blue face appeared on the screen.
Compared to the last time they’d met, Eleanor Vaughn looked much more haggard; even her deep blue skin couldn’t hide the dark circles under her eyes.
When Eleanor Vaughn saw the background behind Moira Lynch, she grew excited. "You’re already here?"
Moira Lynch nodded. "I’m lost. Can you come get me?"
’This place is as beautiful as a fairytale world, but every tree house looks almost identical. There’s nothing to tell them apart.’
Moira Lynch stood where she was, feeling like she couldn’t tell north from south.
’Not that I have a good sense of direction to begin with.’
"Okay, stay right where you are. I’m on my way." Eleanor Vaughn said, already heading out as she ended the call.
A short while later, Moira Lynch saw a blue figure rapidly swinging toward her, using the vines that hung from the Elf Tree Houses.
Eleanor Vaughn landed in front of Moira Lynch, purring happily. "Moira, it’s been so long! You’ve changed so much."
Moira Lynch smiled back. "So have you."
"Oh, right, how did you get here? I thought I’d have to wait a few more days," Eleanor Vaughn asked curiously.
"You hired a group of people to help plant the jumbo sugarcane, didn’t you? I came with them," Moira Lynch replied.
"Come on, I’ll take you to where we store the Elf Syrup."
With that, Eleanor Vaughn grabbed a vine, launched herself into a swing, and then flawlessly caught another.
In just a few moments, she had already swung a great distance away.
’This mode of transportation is definitely a lot faster than walking,’ she thought.
Moira Lynch copied Eleanor Vaughn, grabbing a vine and launching herself into a swing.
The vines hanging from the Elf Tree Houses looked thin, but they were incredibly sturdy and resilient.
Patience helpfully pulled up information about the vines.
[Elf Tree House: Grown from Elf Seeds, this is the elves’ favorite type of dwelling.]
[The vines that grow from the Elf Tree Houses are exceptionally sturdy, allowing elves to move quickly from one house to another.]
After reaching her destination, Eleanor Vaughn remembered Moira Lynch was behind her. She was about to turn back when she saw Moira had already caught up, a flash of pleasant surprise in her eyes.
After landing, Moira Lynch saw a massive tree, far larger than any of the other tree houses. It exuded a sense of great age.
’It’s huge. It would probably take dozens of people holding hands to wrap their arms around this tree.’
"This is where we process the Elf Syrup. Please, follow me."
Led by Eleanor Vaughn, Moira Lynch entered the Elf Tree House.
Moira had expected the space inside to be large, but upon entering the tree house, she found it was even vaster than she had imagined.
