He stopped trying to hide. He slammed his jagged black blade into the floorboards. The dark magic swirled violently around his boots. He summoned solid black spikes from the floor. The spikes shot upward like deadly spears.

Naomi dodged backward. She moved incredibly fast. But Reddy possessed vast combat experience. He predicted her exact evasion path. He moved much faster. He spun around and kicked Naomi squarely in the ribs.

Naomi coughed loudly. The impact was massive. She crashed hard into the invisible wall of the Shadow Domain. She slumped to the floor. Her lungs burned for air. Her daggers clattered on the ground.

Princess Iris swung her glowing rapier. Reddy parried the strike effortlessly. He twisted his dark blade with expert skill. He completely disarmed the Princess. Her silver sword flew across the room. It landed in the dark.

Reddy punched Iris directly in the stomach.

Princess Iris fell to her knees. She gasped in pain. Her glowing angelic wings flickered wildly. The magic sputtered. The beautiful white wings died completely. The light vanished.

The pitch-black darkness returned instantly. It swallowed the room again.

The girls were completely exhausted. They bled from numerous small cuts. They gasped for breath in the freezing dark. They leaned against the cold, invisible wall of the dome. They were totally outmatched. Their newly awakened powers were not enough. The assassin was entirely too skilled. The lethal Black Magic was overwhelmingly strong.

Reddy walked slowly toward them. His boots clicked softly. He raised his jagged black blade. He prepared to finish the contract. The 13th Unit was on the absolute brink of defeat.

Outside, Ken remained leaning against the dark dome.

He knocked his knuckles gently against the dark magic. Tap. Tap.

"Hey, guys!" Ken yelled loudly. He talked directly to the black wall. "Are you still playing a secret level in there? The graphics are totally bugged on my end. It is just a black screen. Please hurry up and finish the stage. My legs are getting very tired from standing here."

No one answered him. The black wall remained completely silent.

Ken frowned. He popped another potato chip into his mouth. He chewed it thoughtfully.

"This is taking entirely too long," Ken analyzed casually in his mind. He looked at the ceiling. "Naomi is usually very fast. She usually finishes her fights in three minutes. But she is still trapped inside this dark bubble. This means the enemy is a very annoying stall boss. Stall bosses just run away and hide in the shadows. They drain your stamina."

Ken let out a long, quiet sigh. He really hated stall bosses. They ruined the pacing of a good game.

"If they stay in there much longer, they are going to miss lunch," Ken reasoned lazily. "Naomi promised to buy me a massive sandwich later. If she gets too tired, she will forget about my sandwich. I cannot allow that to happen. My stomach is a very strict manager."

Ken shoved his right hand into his pocket. He dug past a wrapped strawberry candy. He dug past a piece of lint. His fingers touched a small, ordinary metal coin.

It was just a basic, cheap copper coin. He got it as change from a food vendor yesterday.

Ken pulled the copper coin out of his pocket. He held it between his thumb and index finger. He looked at the boring piece of metal. He offered a very small, goofy smile.

"I guess I have to fix the graphics glitch myself," Ken mumbled lazily. He prepared to do a very tiny amount of work to save his friends.

The battle raged across the wet marble floor. Swords clashed loudly. Magic exploded in the air. The 4th Unit swung their massive weapons. Gideon roared loudly. He punched a stone pillar. The pillar shattered into pieces. Aquatic golems marched forward. They carried rusted tridents. They wanted to crush everyone in the room.

Laxmi dodged a rusted trident. She laughed a loud, excited laugh. Orange fire danced around her fists. She punched a golem in the chest. The rock cracked. The golem stumbled backward.

"These guys are so slow!" Laxmi cheered. She bounced on her toes. "I want a real challenge!"

Zinia slammed her boots onto the floor. Solid stone ripped out of the ground. The stone formed a thick barricade. A 4th Unit soldier crashed into the barricade. The soldier dropped his axe. Zinia grinned a confident smile. She cracked her knuckles.

"Watch your flanks, Laxmi," Zinia warned calmly. "The golems are grouping up."

Sayma stood near the center of the room. She pushed her thick glasses up her nose. She held her neat notebook. She tracked the enemy movements. She cast golden honeycomb barriers to block incoming attacks.

"The enemy numbers are increasing," Sayma reported politely. "We must maintain our defensive perimeter."

Ira stood perfectly still. Her pale face showed zero emotion. She swung two high-pressure water whips. The water cracked loudly. She tripped a charging golem. The monster fell face-first onto the wet floor.

"Statistically speaking, their attack patterns are very repetitive," Ira stated in her flat voice.

Luna sat on the dry ground. She rubbed her sleepy eyes. A soft blanket rested on her shoulders. She pointed two fingers at a puddle. "Zap," she mumbled lazily. Yellow lightning shot from her hand. The electricity shocked three 4th Unit soldiers. They fell down. They did not get back up.

Risa hid behind Sayma. The sweet pink-haired healer hugged her stuffed teddy bear. She looked around the chaotic room. "Please be careful, everyone. The big rock men look very scary."

Ken Eliot sat on a broken piece of a stone column. He was far away from the fighting. He wore his navy blue suit pants. His white dress shirt hung completely untucked over his belt. He did not wear a tie. His black hair stuck up in wild, messy spikes.

He held a large plastic bag of sour cream and onion potato chips. He reached into the bag. He pulled out a crispy chip. He popped it into his mouth. Crunch. Crunch. Crunch. He chewed slowly. He slouched his shoulders. He looked incredibly bored.

"This room is entirely too loud," Ken complained to himself. He wiped a crumb off his chin. "People are yelling. Swords are clanking. It is a massive noise pollution problem. I just want to eat my snacks in peace."

He looked across the room. He stared at the massive, pitch-black dome. The dome sat in the middle of the chamber. It looked like a giant ball of solid ink. Princess Iris and Naomi were trapped inside that dark bubble. The assassin named Reddy had trapped them.

"Off-screen battles are a total scam," Ken analyzed lazily. He tossed another chip into the air. He caught it in his mouth. "The animators just put up a black screen to save money. It is very cheap game design. I want to see the action. Or maybe I do not. Action requires moving. I do not like moving."
