Chapter 445 - 446 - Our pup comes first
Chapter 445: Chapter 446 - Our pup comes first
Earlier, Ravyn suddenly remembered something that made his stomach drop like a rock. Bryan hadn’t received his serum yet.
He rushed straight to the boy’s room, expecting to find him there, but the room was completely empty.
His brows pulled together in confusion. "Bryan?" Only silence answered him. He quickly searched the nearby rooms before finally spotting Daisy. "Have you seen Bryan?"
Daisy looked genuinely confused. "I thought he was with you."
Ravyn’s expression grew tense with worry. Neither of them had any idea where the little boy had run off to. Without wasting another second, they both headed straight for the safe house.
The moment they stepped inside, Bryan’s excited voice rang out loud and clear through the whole room. "Everyone, look at my mommy!"
Ravyn froze in his tracks. His eyes landed on Seraphine, who was still standing there with Bryan close beside her. Something painful twisted deep inside his chest, sharp and unexpected.
Before he could even fully process Bryan’s joyful words, another familiar figure caught his attention. Voren.
"Let’s go in pups, leave the adults alone." Kylie quickly moved the pups to the inner room, leaving the adults there.
Ravyn walked toward Voren, though his gaze kept drifting back to Seraphine again and again. She looked different. Not just prettier, though she was absolutely glowing.
There was something about her now that he couldn’t quite explain. She carried herself with this quiet, powerful confidence, and there was a warm, radiant energy around her that hadn’t been there before.
"Voren." His voice finally pulled Voren’s attention away from everything else.
"You haven’t been answering my calls."
Voren noticed exactly where Ravyn’s eyes kept wandering. His expression instantly turned colder, protective instincts flaring up.
Even Daisy caught the way Ravyn couldn’t seem to stop staring at Seraphine. Jealousy flashed hot across her face before pure anger quickly took over.
"I’ve been busy," Voren answered calmly, hoping to steer Ravyn’s focus away from Seraphine.
Instead, Ravyn narrowed his eyes suspiciously. "Were you two together?"
For a split second, Voren regretted the excuse he had been using for months. Back then, it had been easy. Seraphine had lost her memories, and pretending he was only protecting his investment hadn’t bothered him at all.
But now, she was his wife. The thought of reducing her to nothing more than a business deal made guilt twist painfully in his gut.
Still, there wasn’t a better explanation ready. "I had to make sure my billions stayed safe," he said, keeping his voice steady. "My investment is too valuable to ignore."
Ravyn slowly nodded, though he didn’t look fully convinced. Before the conversation could drag on any longer, Seraphine casually slipped her arm around Corvine’s waist.
She smiled up at him sweetly. "Corvine..." She rubbed her stomach dramatically. "I’m starving."
Corvine laughed warmly. "Then let’s fix that right now." His smile was bright and full of affection. "I’ll get your soup."
The two of them walked away together, looking completely relaxed and natural. Daisy watched them for a second before glancing back at Ravyn.
Then her eyes drifted toward Seraphine again. Without saying a word, she followed after them.
Voren caught the movement immediately, his jaw tightened with concern. He reached out through the mind link right away. ’That bitch is coming your way.’
His voice carried obvious worry. ’Let Corvine deal with anything she tries.’ Another warning followed quickly. ’Our pup comes first.’
He expected Seraphine to argue like she usually did. Instead, her answer completely caught him off guard and sent his heart soaring. ’Noted, my love.’
For a brief moment, Voren forgot where he was standing. A huge smile almost broke across his face. It took every ounce of willpower he had not to grin like a lovesick idiot right there in front of Ravyn.
Ravyn noticed the distant, dreamy look in his eyes. "Are you mind-linking Kael?" He glanced around the area. "I saw him with the betas earlier."
Voren met his gaze without missing a beat. "Thanks for informing me." His face stayed perfectly calm and composed. "I was just making sure the pack members were being taken care of."
Ravyn still looked unconvinced. "This is your pack, Voren." A small frown creased his face. "You know they’ll be taken care of." His voice grew quieter. "What worries me is how distant you’ve become lately."
Voren held his gaze steadily. "There are a lot of things happening right now, Ravyn." His tone softened just a little. "You wouldn’t understand." Then he added with quiet confidence, "After the festival, I’ll explain everything."
He truly believed those words. Once the festival ended, he wouldn’t have to hide his marriage anymore. He would finally tell everyone that Seraphine was his wife. Ravyn would understand then. Afterall, he won’t have a choice.
Ravyn studied him for another long second before letting out a heavy breath. "If you say so." A relieved smile finally appeared on his face. Then another thought seemed to hit him. "Oh, Doctor Ash."
Hope brightened his eyes again. "Can you talk to her for me? My warriors still need her help."
Voren forced a polite smile. "Of course." He nodded once. "But she’s extremely busy right now."
Ravyn frowned in confusion. "Busy? Why isn’t she here? I thought every werewolf was supposed to attend the festival."
Voren calmly shook his head. "Not Doctor Ash." He folded his arms. "She was raised in the human world. She isn’t familiar with our traditions."
A faint smile crossed his face. "She liked visiting my pack, though. I think she’ll come back again soon." Then his expression turned sympathetic. "As for your warriors... they’ll have to hold on a little longer. My warriors survived for months while waiting for treatment." He gently patted Ravyn’s shoulder, making it clear the conversation was over.
He still didn’t fully trust Daisy not to stir up another ugly scene and wanted to be there for Seraphine.
Even so, Ravyn stayed close. When Voren started walking after Seraphine and Corvine, Ravyn followed right beside him.
"Voren," Ravyn spoke again as they walked. "Tomorrow is the Full Moon." A smile appeared on his face. "That’s when the real festival begins. Today is mostly for everyone to relax, socialize, and welcome all the visiting packs."
He stopped speaking mid-sentence. His body suddenly stiffened. His eyes rolled back for a brief second. When they returned to normal, his expression had turned completely serious. "The Alpha King... his queen... their son... and their daughter have arrived."
He immediately turned toward the entrance. "I should go welcome them."
The moment Ravyn hurried away, Voren quietly let out a long breath of relief. Finally. He had a little freedom. Without wasting any time, he continued toward the open area where Seraphine and Corvine should be.
Just as he spotted them ahead, he came face-to-face with the Alpha King himself.
Jaron stood before him with an easy, confident smile. "Alpha Voren." His voice was calm but carried natural authority. "It’s good to finally meet you." His eyes held Voren’s for a meaningful moment. "I’ll forgive you for not honoring my invitation to my daughter’s dinner party if you agree to have a drink with me."
Before Voren could respond, a mindlink came through from Kael. ’Alpha, you need to see this.’
