Chapter 350: Chapter 195: Wax Melting Demon, Knowledge of Planar Travel
Pei Ze was rather annoyed.
The entire crafting process had gone quite smoothly. He was on the verge of completing his third vial of thunder-elemental affinity potion, but thanks to these people, his efforts had come to naught. An entire portion of Elemental Crystal Dust had been wasted. How could he not be annoyed?
The Dark Elves stared at Pei Ze with suspicion and alarm, looking as though they were facing a formidable enemy.
At such a close distance, they hadn’t detected his presence at all. For Dark Elves, who excelled at assassination and possessed keen senses, this was unthinkable.
It meant the human man before them was incredibly strong.
At this thought, Putana’s eyes flickered. She spoke in a low voice, "Sir, I apologize for the disturbance. We have no intention of making an enemy of you. We are merely following the commands of the great Rose to capture this Silver Moon Elf."
"Trying to scare me by invoking a Divine Spirit?" Pei Ze sneered. "A pity this is the Thunder Elemental Half-Plane, not the Dark Territory. Rose’s reach doesn’t extend here."
Whether it was their true form or an avatar, Divine Spirits almost always descended only upon their native planes.
Lady Frost, for example.
Very few Divine Spirits would ever descend to other planes.
This was because the descending avatar or true form would face greater planar restrictions. Not only would the price be far heavier, but their power would also be more severely weakened.
The avatar of a lesser Divine Spirit descending upon a foreign plane would likely have its power drop to the fourth or fifth tier. Any random native expert could easily slay it.
Divine Spirits would never do something where the losses outweighed the gains.
Normally, a Divine Spirit descending upon a foreign plane signified the beginning of an all-out planar war.
The Divine Spirit would connect its Divine Kingdom to the plane for a short time, using it to resist the plane’s will and thereby unleash its power without restraint.
Therefore, a Divine Spirit either didn’t descend to a foreign plane, or if they did, it meant a major event was unfolding.
Hearing the disrespect for the Spider Goddess Rose in Pei Ze’s words, the faces of the Dark Elves contorted in anger.
Putana, however, just frowned, her gaze sweeping over Pei Ze.
Recalling the scene of what looked like a dissipating barrier, a thought suddenly struck her, and her expression changed slightly.
"You’re a Wizard?"
Pei Ze raised an eyebrow. ’This Dark Elf is pretty sharp.’
Seeing the change in his expression, Putana knew she had guessed correctly. The way she looked at him immediately changed.
Julis’s eyes, however, lit up as a sliver of hope sparked within her.
She had been worried that the man would shrink back when Putana invoked the Spider Goddess.
But now, things were different.
When it came to the civilized races of the Multiverse that feared Divine Spirits the least, if Wizards claimed to be second, none would dare claim to be first.
In fact, it was more than a lack of fear; Wizards had captured countless Divine Spirits for use as experimental materials.
To date, the number of Divine Spirits who had fallen at the hands of Wizards was in the triple digits, at the very least.
Divine Spirits, feared by countless civilized races, were nothing more than precious experimental materials in the eyes of many a Wizard—or at least, potential future materials.
No wonder this man had shown no trace of fear when he heard the name of the Spider Goddess.
’I just don’t know what level of Wizard he is. Can he defeat this group of Dark Elves?’
"What do you intend to do, Sir?"
Upon learning the man before her was a Wizard, Putana’s aggressive posture softened considerably.
If possible, she wanted to avoid a conflict with a Wizard whose true power was unknown.
Pei Ze casually tossed aside the ruined potion. "I won’t make things difficult," he said crisply. "Compensate me for one portion of Elemental Crystal Dust, and we’ll call it even."
Putana knew what Elemental Crystal Dust was. Hearing his demand, she breathed a sigh of relief and immediately agreed.
"No problem."
After arriving in the Thunder Elemental Half-Plane, they had killed several Thunder Elemental Spirits along the way and happened to have a few portions of Elemental Crystal Dust on hand.
Yet, when she presented the Elemental Crystal Dust, she saw Pei Ze shake his head.
"Not enough. It must be Elemental Crystal Dust from a tier-three Thunder Elemental Spirit, one approaching tier-four."
Putana’s expression darkened. "Sir, do you think we’re easy to bully?" she said coldly.
A tier-three approaching tier-four? Isn’t that a Thunder Elemental Spirit just a single step away from evolving into a Djinn?
How could a Thunder Elemental Spirit like that be in the outer regions?
Besides, from the looks of him, he didn’t seem capable of killing a Thunder Elemental Spirit of that level. Otherwise, why would he be lingering in the outer regions?
Saying something like that was clearly an attempt to take advantage of them.
Dark Elves were not good people; they were cruel and ruthless by nature. If not for the fact that their opponent was a Wizard—someone not to be trifled with—they would have handled this differently. Forget apologies and compensation; killing any witnesses on the spot was standard practice for them.
In an instant, the gazes of the Dark Elves turned exceptionally dangerous.
Pei Ze saw it all, and a mocking sneer appeared on his face.
"It seems you can’t produce it."
He hadn’t held out much hope in the first place. After all, judging from their earlier battle, this dozen or so Dark Elves were only at a tier-one or tier-two level of strength. Any random tier-three Thunder Elemental Spirit could easily wipe them out, to say nothing of one approaching the level of a Djinn.
’Since they can’t produce the Elemental Crystal Dust, they’ll have to compensate me in other ways.’
As if sensing the killing intent that suddenly flared in Pei Ze’s eyes, Putana’s gaze went sharp. She barked a sudden, low command.
"Kill him!"
The instant the words left her mouth, she lunged at Pei Ze like a cheetah.
The other Dark Elves were just as quick, fanning out to surround and kill Pei Ze from all sides.
