Chapter 283: Chapter 169: Return to Chenxi City, The Most Outstanding Student
Becoming a Level 4 Wizard is no easy feat.
Over the last ten thousand years in Chenxi City, countless prodigies have appeared, yet not even one in a thousand has ultimately managed to advance to Level 4 Wizard.
Even among the Wizards of the Bloodline Clans, known for their rapid power progression, the number who ultimately become Level 4 Wizards is also extremely small.
In all of Chenxi City, the total number of Elemental Mages and Bloodline Wizards at that level, even by a generous count, barely breaks one hundred.
And that’s the result of Chenxi City’s accumulation over many years. After a Wizard breaks through to Level 4, their very being undergoes a sublimation, and their lifespan skyrockets. Without using any other life-extending measures, they can live for at least four to five thousand years.
However, when Pei Ze said this, Yin Xue felt in her heart that it was only natural.
In fact, it was already a widely accepted truth among the countless Wizards of Chenxi City that Pei Ze would one day become a Level 4 Elemental Mage.
After all, a Second-level Wizard could live for at least five or six hundred years.
And Pei Ze was only eighteen. With over five hundred years left, he could become a Level 4 Elemental Mage through sheer persistence alone.
"Then I hope you achieve your goal soon," Yin Xue said, her face breaking into a smile.
"I’ll take that as a blessing," Pei Ze replied with a smile, then changed the subject. "What was the final outcome of the purge against the Pei Family?"
At the mention of this, Yin Xue’s smile faded. She sighed softly and said, "The results weren’t perfect. As you probably know, the Pei Family had already mastered a way to fuse with vile creatures."
Seeing Pei Ze nod, she continued, "We interrogated the Pei Family members afterward. It turns out that just half a month before the higher-ups were preparing to move, the Pei Family had a breakthrough in their research on the vile creatures. They could use the Yugro Giant Serpent bloodline to suppress the creatures, allowing them to fuse with them in a short period of time and wield their power."
"Because of that, the purge ran into quite a few complications."
"Although all of the Pei Family’s Bloodline Wizards were eventually purged, a number of them managed to escape into the Shadow Realm. The Council has now issued a bounty: any Wizard who kills a member of the Pei Family, regardless of their affiliation with Chenxi City, will be rewarded with merit points."
Pei Ze raised an eyebrow. He hadn’t expected that some of the Pei Family had actually survived and escaped to the Shadow Realm. ’Those bastards are as slippery as snakes. Still not completely wiped out.’
But on second thought, given how dangerous the Shadow Realm was, the members of the Pei Family would surely face immense hardship there, now that all their Bloodline Wizards were dead.
"In any case, the Pei Family won’t be able to cause any more trouble from now on," Yin Xue said with a grin. She then shot Pei Ze a meaningful glance. "If you don’t think that’s enough, you could always go to the Shadow Realm to hunt down the survivors and earn some merit points while you’re at it."
Yin Xue, of course, knew about the grudge between Pei Ze and the Pei Family.
Back then, Pei Yonggao and his son had stolen the inheritance from Pei Ze’s parents. The Pei Family, citing Pei Ze’s status as someone without their bloodline, not only did nothing to stop it but also exiled him from the clan.
With such a deep-seated hatred, anyone else in his position wouldn’t have rested until the Pei Family was utterly annihilated.
"We’ll see," Pei Ze said with a smile.
The theft of his inheritance had happened before he transmigrated into this world. To be honest, he didn’t feel too strongly about it.
He had killed Pei Yonggao and his son partly because they’d been foolish enough to cross him, and partly to resolve the karmic ties.
As for annihilating the entire Pei Family, he wasn’t particularly obsessed with the idea.
Of course, if the opportunity conveniently presented itself, he wouldn’t mind finishing the job.
Speaking of the Shadow Realm, however, reminded Pei Ze of something. He quickly asked, "Yin Xue, do you know of the Thunder Abyss Giant?"
"I’ve heard of them. Why?"
"I’m currently researching ways to improve my affinity with Thunder Energy Particles, and one of the required materials is the blood of a Thunder Abyss Giant. I was wondering where I might be able to capture one. Do you have any leads?"
Yin Xue thought for a moment before shaking her head. "I only know that Thunder Abyss Giants might be found in the Shadow Realm or the Star Realm. As for a more specific location, I’m not sure."
After a pause, she added, "But I can ask around for you."
"I’d appreciate that, Yin Xue," Pei Ze said with a smile, not standing on ceremony.
The Yin Family surely had plenty of Wizards who spent their years traveling between the various planes. They were worldly and well-traveled; he might be able to get the information he needed from them.
Yin Xue shot him a look of mock indignation and smiled. "There’s no need to be so formal with me."
...
「The next morning.」
Pei Ze left Red Maple City with Su Ya and Peng Yan.
As the silhouette of Chenxi City appeared on the horizon, Pei Ze felt an inexplicable wave of emotion.
He had only been gone for a little over a year, yet it felt like he hadn’t been back in a very long time.
’I’ll have to get used to this,’ Pei Ze thought to himself.
As his strength grew in the future, he would undoubtedly travel to other planes more and more often. This feeling would likely become a common occurrence.
Upon entering Chenxi City, Pei Ze turned to Su Ya and Peng Yan. "I’m giving you a month of leave. Rest well, spend time with your families, and report to the Ring of Truth’s manor when your vacation is over."
"Yes, my lord!"
Su Ya and Peng Yan replied in unison, their faces breaking into happy smiles.
After the two had departed, Pei Ze made his way straight to High Tower Academy.
Walking along the academy paths and taking in the familiar scenery, Pei Ze felt a faint sense of wistfulness.
If he were still a student at High Tower Academy, he would be a third-year by now.
Upon entering the academy grounds, Pei Ze’s clothes transformed into the white robes of a Wizard.
The students along the path saw him and immediately, almost instinctively, moved to the side and bowed respectfully.
It was only after Pei Ze had walked some distance and disappeared from view that a few students straightened up, looking at one another in confusion.
"That lord just now... I don’t recognize him."
"True. And he was so young. He didn’t look much older than me. Are there any Wizards in our academy who look that young?"
"I feel like that lord looked really familiar, though. Like I’ve seen him somewhere before... Wait! I remember now! That was Lord Pei Ze!"
The female student who spoke was so excited she looked like she might start jumping up and down on the spot.
The others were stunned to hear this.
"Lord Pei Ze? The one who graduated from our academy?"
"Who else could it be?"
"What’s he doing at the academy?"
"Have you forgotten? Lord Mo Weng of our academy is Lord Pei Ze’s teacher. He must be here to see him!"
The group immediately erupted into excited chatter.
After all, it wasn’t every day they got to see such a famous, legendary figure with their own eyes.
...
Upon entering Medicine Garden No. 8, Pei Ze headed straight for the Potion House where Mo Weng usually spent his time, moving with practiced familiarity.
Mo Weng had clearly already sensed Pei Ze’s arrival through an Array. By the time Pei Ze reached the Potion House, Mo Weng was already seated in a chair, waiting for him with a smile.
"I’ve returned, Teacher," Pei Ze said, placing a hand over his chest in a salute.
"There’s no need for such formalities between us." Mo Weng waved his hand, gesturing for Pei Ze to sit. "How did you find the Plane Battlefield this time?"
"I gained a great deal," Pei Ze replied with a serious expression.
It was true. On this trip to the Turin Plane, he had not only successfully advanced to Second-level Wizard, but he was also on the verge of breaking through to the second-level liquefaction stage.
More importantly, he had mastered trump cards and techniques like Alchemy Engraving, the Bloodline Mark, and Magic Creature Blood Refining Technology. Even Silver Star had evolved into a Tier Three Witchcraft Artifact. To say it was a bountiful harvest would be an understatement.
Mo Weng smiled and gave a slight nod.
He was well aware of Pei Ze’s performance on the Plane Battlefield and was extremely satisfied with it.
He was especially pleased with how Pei Ze had turned the tables to kill Pei Zhanqing, obtaining evidence of the Pei Family’s research and cultivation of vile creatures, which in turn gave the elemental faction the opportunity to bring down the Pei Family.
Now, of Chenxi City’s three great Bloodline Wizard Clans, the Meng Family was in decline and the Pei Family had fled. Only the Yan Family remained, but a single pillar could not hold up the sky; they were no longer able to contend with the elemental faction.
The elemental faction now held a decisive advantage and had completely seized control of the discourse in Chenxi City.
And Pei Ze could be credited with playing a major role in this.
Many high-ranking members of the elemental faction had expressed their admiration for Pei Ze, which brought Mo Weng great comfort.
When he had first taken Pei Ze on as a student, he had been drawn primarily to his talent for potions. He never expected this student would bring him such a great surprise.
Mo Weng had a feeling that although Pei Ze was his youngest student, he would very likely prove to be the most exceptional one he had ever taught.
