Chapter 219: Chapter 216: Why Is It Always Him! He’s Everywhere

Having seen the best and worst of people since he was a child, Sang Mo didn’t really believe anyone would be good to someone else for no reason. He certainly didn’t believe anyone could truly love him.

But as for Bai Zhi’s favoritism toward Hu Yan… though he was loath to admit it, he had once been envious.

He had always known that Bai Zhi disliked his beast form. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have locked him in the basement and tormented him back then. In a way, those days were less about torture and more about the discovery that he was still alive. Every pang of pain was a clear reminder that he hadn’t died yet.

In the end, he had taken his revenge and killed everyone who had ever hurt him.

He had indeed thought about killing Bai Zhi countless times. ‘Since no one wanted him alive anyway, it wouldn’t matter if he died.’

But over time, he slowly realized that he didn’t seem to want to die anymore. The first time Bai Zhi bought him clothes, jewelry, a Light Computer, and all sorts of medicines—though he was outwardly scornful, deep down, he was actually very happy.

Growing up, no one had ever bought him things like that.

Even though she didn’t like his beast form, he still got everything the other Beast Husbands had.

Especially when she went out of her way to pick a suitable weapon for him, buy all kinds of medicine, make them dried meat, and offer words of caution. Although her advice wasn’t directed at him alone—it was for all her Beast Husbands—a warmth still spread through him deep inside.

When they went on a group hunt, Yue Junxiao had openly talked about how much he missed his wife. At the time, Sang Mo was also thinking of Bai Zhi, but he was analyzing her every action, wondering why she had changed so drastically and trying to make sense of all the inconsistencies.

He eventually concluded that the current Bai Zhi and the one from before were like two completely different people. He then recalled the moment she let him out of the basement. She had seemed genuinely shocked to see him; her fear didn’t look like an act. It was from that moment on that Bai Zhi had changed.

While her aura was the same, it seemed to have gained a subtle new quality, transforming into something he didn’t find so repulsive.

That was why, after Bai Zhi was kidnapped, he decided to follow them. He wanted to confirm whether she was just putting on an act, as he suspected, or if she was truly someone else entirely.

In the end, he found that Bai Zhi was Bai Zhi, yet at the same time, she wasn’t.

But Bai Zhi’s attitude underwent a subtle shift—she actually started letting him be with her once a week. Whatever her reasons, having more chances to advance his power was a good thing.

He hadn’t actually believed that being with Bai Zhi even once could really affect his superpower, but the results proved it was true. It really worked.

Even his superpower, which had suffered a backlash, could grow stronger in a single night. He had already resigned himself to his fate for the rest of his life, never expecting that his superpower could actually grow again.

He especially never expected to hear Bai Zhi say words like “I like you.”

‘Whether Bai Zhi means it or not, I’m going to make her words come true!’

At this thought, Sang Mo held her a little tighter, a dense black fog swirling in his deep, dark eyes.

‘If others wronged him, he would kill them and be done with it.’

‘But Bai Zhi… if she dared to deceive him, he would take her back to the Black Domain and lock her away. He would make it so she could only ever stay in the Black Domain. Whether she liked it or not, she could only stay by his side.’

It was at this moment that Sang Mo suddenly realized that what Sa Lei had said earlier made perfect sense. An unprecedented desire to rapidly develop the Black Domain took hold of him.

Held in Sang Mo’s arms, Bai Zhi had no idea how long he had been lost in thought over her words, or what kind of decision he had just made.

After being held for a while, she noticed that Sang Mo’s body was pleasantly warm. It seemed to have been like this the last few times. Realizing this was one of his small, considerate gestures and thinking about his past, Bai Zhi couldn’t help but bury her head in his chest. ‘How could anyone have suffered so much.’

‘In comparison, my old life was just too blissful.’

The starker the contrast, the more compassion she felt for Sang Mo.

After some time, Bai Zhi heard Yan Yichen and Yue Junxiao talking down below. “Didn’t our wife come to the room to find Sang Mo? How come they’re both gone?”

Yan Yichen: “Did they go to the room next door?”

“I was watching the whole time. They definitely didn’t leave.” This was followed by the sound of CLATTERING and BANGING from below, as if they were turning the place upside down looking for them.

Hearing that familiar voice, Sang Mo…

He nearly ground his molars to dust.

‘Yue Junxiao again!’

‘How is it always him?! He’s everywhere!’

Bai Zhi had no idea what was going through Sang Mo’s mind. She only felt herself being suddenly swept up into his arms. Then she felt him moving at high speed, the wind whipping past her face. A single glance down made her instinctively clutch at Sang Mo’s clothes, terrified she might fall.

She knew Sang Mo probably wouldn’t drop her, but from such a height, and at this speed…

Bai Zhi silently tightened her grip, just in case.

Sang Mo carried Bai Zhi all the way to the Black Domain’s famous Eternal Unity Tree. Petals danced in the air, many of them drifting down into the lake.

Even though she had seen it once before, Bai Zhi was still stunned by its beauty. The last time she came, all six of them had been together. She never expected Sang Mo to bring her here alone.

Bai Zhi tilted her head back to watch the petals, reaching out to catch one as it drifted down toward her.

The pink petals were lovely. A gust of wind sent a shower of them fluttering down, each one landing in the lake, creating a breathtaking scene.

She watched the flowers; Sang Mo watched her.

After catching a few more petals, Bai Zhi couldn’t resist turning to Sang Mo. “Why did you bring me here?”

Sang Mo frowned. “Yue Junxiao is too loud.”

Hearing this, Bai Zhi couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

It was true that Yue Junxiao interrupted them rather frequently, but she never imagined Sang Mo would whisk her away for that reason. Then again, she had to admit, the excuse was very him.

Gazing at the cascading petals, Bai Zhi couldn’t help but ask, “Why do people call this the Eternal Unity Tree?”

Sang Mo said, “A long time ago, a Beastman made a wish here. He hoped to grow old with the female he loved, and to be her only Beast Husband.”

Bai Zhi asked curiously, “And then what happened? Did the female really have only him as her Beast Husband?”

In this world, after all, having multiple husbands was the norm; a female having only one Beastman was extremely rare.

Sang Mo was silent for a moment. “He succeeded. He won over the female he loved, and she took him as her only Beast Husband. Later, they came back here together to give their thanks.”

Bai Zhi nodded. “That’s a beautiful story. How are they doing now?”

Sang Mo replied, “That female now has a total of six Beast Husbands.”

Bai Zhi: “…”

‘Sure enough,’ she thought, ‘in this world, multiple Beast Husbands really is the norm.’

Bai Zhi asked, exasperated, “Then why do they still call it the Eternal Unity Tree?”

Sang Mo explained, “Because any Beastman and female who come here will end up together. As for whether he’s the *only* Beast Husband… they don’t really seem to care about that part.”

Hearing this, Bai Zhi couldn’t help but turn to look at Sang Mo. ‘He brought me here… he couldn’t be thinking the same thing, could he?’

‘Is it because he doesn’t believe what I just told him? Is he looking for a little supernatural assistance?’
