After Pampering Her 5 Beast Husbands, the Villainess Struck It Rich
Chapter 218: They Don't Like You, I Like You
Chapter 218: Chapter 215: They Don’t Like You, I Like You
Sang Mo didn’t look at Bai Zhi, speaking as if to himself. “Our clan was forsaken by the Beast God. We are exceptionally talented and cultivate much faster than other Beastmen. What takes them a month, we can do in just a few days. But for one day each month, our superpowers vanish, leaving us incredibly weak. What’s more, no one has ever reached SSS-level; the strongest only ever made it to the Peak of SS Level. And once we turn thirty, our bodies begin to decline. It’s like a punishment placed upon our clan.”
“My father refused to accept his fate and searched for many remedies, but nothing worked. He grew weaker by the day until someone told him it was a curse. This person said he could transfer the curse to someone else by swapping his blood with that of a close relative. The purer their blood, the better the effect would be. And that’s why I was born.”
When Sang Mo reached this point, he couldn’t help but let out a scornful laugh.
Perhaps he was mocking his father for believing so easily, or perhaps he was mocking the very circumstances of his own birth.
Hearing this, Bai Zhi didn’t even need to guess what Sang Mo’s father had done. A pang of sympathy and a surge of anger flashed in her eyes.
Bai Zhi couldn’t help but reach out and take his hand.
Sang Mo felt a small, yet incredibly soft, hand take his. He couldn’t help but lower his gaze, staring at it for a long time. An unreadable emotion flickered in his deep, dark eyes. After a moment, he closed his own hand around hers, as if the simple act could smooth away all the pain he had ever suffered.
“My father fell for that person’s lies. Shortly after I was born, he attempted the blood swap, but other clan members discovered him. By the time they found me, I was on the brink of death. They barely managed to save me. My father’s condition, however, continued to worsen. When I was almost two years old, he couldn’t stop himself from trying again. But just as he had drawn my blood, someone snatched it and ran. He didn’t care one bit whether I lived or died; he just ran after it.”
Hearing this, Bai Zhi was absolutely furious. “How could your father do such a thing! He doesn’t deserve to be a father! No, he doesn’t even deserve to be called a person!”
‘He was just a newborn baby!!’
‘And his own flesh and blood!’
‘How could he bring himself to do it!’
‘And not just once, but twice!!’
‘He abandoned a child who’d just had his blood drawn and was hovering between life and death, all to chase after that damn blood!’
Perhaps Bai Zhi’s anger was too palpable. He clearly felt her hand tighten around his, but to him, the little female’s grip was so slight it was almost negligible. The sight, however, caused the hard lines of his face to soften, and the hint of a smile touched his lips.
The coldness in Sang Mo’s voice dissipated a little, replaced by a hint of smug satisfaction. “In any case, he didn’t get it. On the contrary, I had a fortuitous encounter that made my innate talent even greater than my father’s. Otherwise, I would have died back then.”
Bai Zhi was still furious after hearing his story. “That fortuitous encounter was your own luck! It doesn’t change the fact that he had no right to treat you that way! Trading your life for his when you were just a newborn… He’s worse than a beast!!”
Hearing Bai Zhi’s furious words, Sang Mo felt something warm flood his chest and spread through his entire body, leaving him feeling utterly at ease.
A smile laced Sang Mo’s voice. “Yes. So, the first thing I did after I gained full control of my superpower was kill him.”
Bai Zhi nodded without the slightest hesitation. “As you should have.”
‘If this were the modern world, she probably wouldn’t dare say something like that. But in that moment, she’d wanted nothing more than to kill Sang Mo’s father herself and vent her fury.’
Sang Mo’s voice gradually grew calmer, losing its initial cold edge. “I integrated with that fortuitous opportunity, but it caused my body to become abnormal. They all called me a monster and cast me out. It was winter, and I was cold and starving, forced to eat snow to survive. I was sure I was going to die. But I fell asleep, and when I woke up, the snow had melted to reveal a plant with a single fruit. That fruit attracted many animals, and I ate them all. That’s how I lived.”
‘The more Bai Zhi listened, the more her heart ached for him. How old could Sang Mo have been back then? To have already brushed with death so many times.’
Sang Mo said tonelessly, “By the time I was fifteen, I had already reached SS-level. The day I broke through, I slaughtered everyone who had taken part in the scheme back then.”
‘Having lived here for some time, Bai Zhi was keenly aware of what an incredible talent it was to reach SS-level at fifteen, especially without being nurtured by Beast Cores.’
Bai Zhi voiced her questions. “Then how did your rank fall to A-level? And why would that person tell your father such a thing—to use the blood of a close relative to break a curse?”
Sang Mo’s brow furrowed slightly. “Backlash. Because of that fortuitous encounter from my childhood, my one weak day each month became even more difficult to endure than it is for other Beastmen. For the sake of revenge, I forced a breakthrough, which caused my superpower to run rampant inside me. I was able to suppress it most of the time, but I’d lose control on that one particular day. Brutus and his group attacked me then, while I was weak. I was forced to use my superpower, triggering a severe backlash that dropped my rank from SS-level down to A-level.”
“As for the curse… there was no curse. That person made it all up. His goal was just to ensure I was born. His superpower allows him to foresee small fragments of the future, and he knew my blood was special. While it couldn’t break our clan’s ‘destiny,’ it could indeed lessen the effects.”
“After he obtained my blood, his own superpower broke through to the next level. What’s more, I later learned that many Beastmen were involved in that affair. They were all beneficiaries, which also made them all perpetrators! The only reason they ‘saved’ me was because they were afraid my blood would become useless if I died. As for my father… he did give me some of his blood. It kept me alive, but it also caused our two bloodlines to conflict within my body.”
After hearing Sang Mo’s story, the sympathy in Bai Zhi’s eyes deepened. “No wonder you said your very birth was a conspiracy.”
‘She suddenly understood why Sang Mo had the kind of personality he did. It was because everyone who had ever shown him ‘kindness’ had done so with malicious intent.’
‘He’d been plotted against from the moment he was born and had faced death numerous times at such a young age.’
‘Despite his immense talent, his unique nature made him a constant target.’
‘He had never known any warmth growing up—only endless scheming.’
‘Even after establishing the Black Domain, he couldn’t escape being backstabbed by the likes of Brutus and Hades. And then, he was tricked by the original ‘Bai Zhi’s’ father into becoming her Beast Husband, only to continue being mistreated.’
‘In just twenty-some years, it was as if the Beast God was blind to his suffering, allowing him to endure so much hardship.’
‘After everything he’d been through, Sang Mo hadn’t become twisted and evil. If she were in his shoes, she’d probably hate the whole world and want to drag everyone down with her.’
At this thought, Bai Zhi turned and threw her arms around him in a hug. “I’ll be good to you from now on. They were all bad. They don’t like you, but I like you. So please don’t be sad. You still have us. I’ll work hard to get used to your beast form so I’m not afraid of it.”
Sang Mo froze, stunned by the sudden embrace. As he listened to her words, the ice in his eyes slowly melted away. He hugged her back and said in a raspy voice, “Okay.”
