After Pampering Her 5 Beast Husbands, the Villainess Struck It Rich
Chapter 217: It's a Conspiracy
Chapter 217: Chapter 214: It’s a Conspiracy
Sang Mo didn’t actually like children. It was less a dislike and more of a loathing.
But the thought of his egg growing inside Bai Zhi’s belly didn’t repulse him—a rare feeling. He even felt a faint sense of anticipation.
At this thought, Sang Mo’s deep black pupils involuntarily narrowed into vertical slits.
But he immediately recalled that Bai Zhi didn’t like him. At first, she’d even planned for him to attend to her only once a month. Though her attitude had softened considerably since then, he now had four times a month, just like the others.
‘But do I really have to change just to please her?’
Seeing the change in Sang Mo, Sa Lei continued to press his case. “Even if you don’t care about the Black Domain and are unwilling to vie for favor with those other Beastmen, don’t you want to be the one whose child your female conceives first? As the father of the first child, the female will surely treat you differently. Besides, the Black Domain will be completely sealed off afterward. It will be very difficult for outsiders to get in. Without a guide, even you would have a hard time finding the place.”
It had to be said, Sa Lei lived up to his reputation as an advisor. His powers of persuasion were perfectly calculated.
Sa Lei’s previous points had only annoyed Sang Mo, failing to convince him at all.
But his last points… those truly made Sang Mo waver.
Even though this was completely contrary to how he usually acted, he had to admit, Sa Lei had hit the nail on the head.
Sang Mo knew Bai Zhi had never been fond of him. He couldn’t even stand watching Yue Junxiao act all cute, let alone do such a thing himself. But the idea that this could let him get one up on the others… now that was interesting.
Especially Hu Yan. Hu Yan was one of Bai Zhi’s favorites, and her favorite fluffy type. He even got to attend to her more often than he did. But if *he* were the one to make Bai Zhi pregnant first…
Sang Mo couldn’t help but let a meaningful smile grace his lips. “Fine, I agree. But one thing: unless it’s something that absolutely requires my presence, don’t bother me.”
A thrilled smile spread across Sa Lei’s face as he replied loudly, “Yes!”
As if afraid Sang Mo would change his mind, Sa Lei immediately and eagerly said, “Then I won’t disturb you any longer. Once the succession ceremony is prepared, I will come to invite you.”
Sang Mo gave a slight nod in response.
Sa Lei then gave a respectful bow, eager to leave the room.
But just before he left, Sa Lei seemed to recall something. He paused and said, “Babutu and Hades are already dead. You’ve had your revenge. Ever since I first met you, you have always been alone. Although I don’t know what happened in the past, what’s past is past. You have a female now. You should look ahead.”
Hearing this, Sang Mo couldn’t help but think of the past, and the soft expression on his face turned to ice.
Seeing Sang Mo’s face turn cold, Sa Lei quickly said, “I’ve said too much.”
With that, he walked out.
A while later, Sang Mo returned to the other room. Everyone turned to look at the sound. Yue Junxiao asked curiously, “Sang Mo, did you agree?”
Sang Mo just nodded slightly, saying listlessly, “Mhm, I agreed.”
Hearing this, Yan Yichen couldn’t help but ask, “Then doesn’t that mean you can’t leave with us?”
But just as the words left his mouth, he saw that Sang Mo had already gone back into his room.
Yue Junxiao watched his back as he disappeared into the room and asked in confusion, “What’s wrong with Sang Mo?”
But no one answered him.
A moment later, Bai Zhi walked into Sang Mo’s room. The room was pitch-black, except for by the window, which was open, causing the curtains to billow in the breeze.
Bai Zhi scanned the room but couldn’t find a trace of Sang Mo. But she was certain she’d just seen him come in.
Bai Zhi called out loudly, “Sang Mo?”
No one answered.
She called out two more times, but still no one answered. Then she heard two faint TAPS from outside the window.
Hearing the sound, Bai Zhi walked to the window and glanced down, but she saw nothing. Just as she was about to turn back inside, she caught a glimpse of someone overhead out of the corner of her eye.
Bai Zhi recoiled in fright, but then she realized the person up there looked familiar. Wasn’t that Sang Mo?
She stuck her head out again and looked up, only to see Sang Mo sitting on a small ledge on the roof.
Bai Zhi asked in confusion, “What are you doing sitting up there?”
Sang Mo looked down at her, his voice as placid as ever. “The view is good.”
Then he asked, “What are you doing here?”
Bai Zhi answered honestly, “You seemed upset, so I came to check on you.”
At her words, Sang Mo’s gaze deepened as he stared at her for a few seconds. “Want to come up?”
Bai Zhi glanced at the height below, then at where Sang Mo was sitting. After a few seconds of hesitation, she nodded.
The next second, Sang Mo dropped down and whisked her up.
Before Bai Zhi could prepare herself, she was suddenly airborne, letting out a startled cry. The next moment, she was sitting on the small ledge on the roof.
Even though she had been the one to agree to come up, a look down was still enough to make her vision go black with vertigo.
They lived on the sixth floor. The spot where they were now sitting was nothing more than a small outcropping. In that instant, her heart leaped into her throat.
Even after so long, Bai Zhi still couldn’t get used to it.
Sang Mo watched her tense posture, propped his chin on his hand, and asked, “Scared?”
Bai Zhi pursed her lips, her hands gripping the ledge beneath her. “I’m okay.”
Although she could be considered powerful now, she knew all too well how she’d gotten her rank—it was heavily inflated.
She was afraid that if she fell, she’d hit the ground before she could even blink, let alone use her superpower.
Seeing through her forced composure, Sang Mo let out a soft chuckle, then reached out and wrapped an arm around her.
With Sang Mo holding her, Bai Zhi was finally able to relax a little. She still didn’t dare to look down, but at least she was no longer worried about falling.
Only then did Bai Zhi realize that the spot Sang Mo had chosen was truly perfect. The sun was just beginning to set, slowly approaching the horizon, and the fading light was beautiful.
She tilted her head slightly and noticed that the light reflecting on Sang Mo’s face softened his usually cold features.
Sang Mo sensed her gaze and asked, “What are you looking at?”
Bai Zhi looked at him, blinking. “You seem to have a lot of secrets. I’m pretty good at keeping them. If something’s bothering you, you can tell me. Talking about it might make you feel better.”
Sang Mo raised an eyebrow and retorted, “How do you know telling you won’t just make us both unhappy?”
Bai Zhi met his gaze. “It’s fine. I can handle it.”
Sang Mo just stared at her intently. After a long time—so long that Bai Zhi thought he wouldn’t speak at all—Sang Mo suddenly said, “My very birth was a conspiracy.”
