Myra Lawson frowned as she listened to the reports from the various outposts in the base.

Things hadn’t improved over the past two days. Now, the zombies were all converging from every direction.

"A zombie horde... I helped deal with one during my time at Oakhaven Base. If your base has no experience, I can certainly offer my guidance."

The door was pushed open, letting in a gust of cold air. A man in a dark suit walked in and spoke.

Myra Lawson didn’t turn around, but a cold smirk touched her lips.

"Mr. Vance, you’re a busy man. How could we dare trouble you?

A horde hasn’t formed yet, and various parties in the base are working to resolve the situation. We won’t trouble you with it."

Myra Lawson wasn’t a fool. ’Once command is handed over, it’s not easily taken back.’

The base had been temporarily entrusted to her. Faced with this kind of crisis, she couldn’t possibly just hand over command to someone else.

Hearing this, Amelia Vance shook his head.

"Why do you think I always say experience is what matters most? This situation will inevitably form a zombie horde. There are no exceptions."

"Miss Lawson, you’re usually bogged down with the base’s complex affairs. A task like fighting a war is better left to us men."

Myra Lawson didn’t get angry. She just gave him a cool glance and said,

"Nothing in this world is absolute. I personally believe that arguments from experience are only accurate for those who have gone through something over a hundred times. Mr. Vance, you’ve only seen one zombie horde. That little experience is hardly convincing."

Her tone carried a hint of amusement and a touch of mockery.

Amelia Vance, who had intended to vex her, felt his smile tighten, but he still said,

"Then let’s just wait and see. I hope City D Base can minimize its losses this time.

After all, that person from headquarters is at your base too."

Just then, a young man who had been standing beside Myra Lawson looked at Amelia Vance with his exceptionally beautiful eyes and said,

"I heard that in the recent zombie horde, Oakhaven Base had half its walls destroyed and over ten thousand people died. I wonder what command role Mr. Vance played back then, and how many people he saved?"

The young man was already taller than him. Although his tone was inquisitive, it held an undercurrent of interrogation.

Amelia Vance was caught completely off guard.

The youth before him, Ian Chandler, was not only a Dual Element Superpower User but had also recently advanced to an Intermediate Superpower.

Though young, he had a thorough understanding of all the base’s affairs.

It was precisely because of this that the people of the base had great faith in Justin Lawson’s administration.

Everyone believed that with Justin Lawson ill, the next successor would undoubtedly be Myra Lawson.

Thinking long-term, the successor could even be Ian Chandler, who had grown up in the apocalypse...

"Oakhaven Base did indeed suffer heavy losses, but a zombie horde is a great trial in itself. Let’s not talk about that. I have to make a trip to the Defense Department. Keep up the good work, everyone."

As he spoke, Amelia Vance walked toward the exit on the other side.

Myra Lawson glanced at Ian Chandler and said, "Getting bold, are we? Daring to meddle in your elders’ affairs?"

"I was just seeking knowledge. And he didn’t answer."

Ian Chandler’s expression was unconcerned.

"Fine. I’ll admit, you know how to ask a question."

Myra Lawson said.

For some reason, she felt that Ian Chandler was becoming more and more like Nina Jacobs lately.

But that was a good thing.

Recalling Amelia Vance’s words, Myra Lawson took out her base-issued communicator again. The person on the other end picked up quickly, and she asked,

"What’s the situation with the Defense Department?"

"Don’t worry, Supervisor Shaw has already gone over. We can’t possibly leave it all in that person’s hands."

the person on the other end replied.

"Good. I’ll head over later as well."

Myra Lawson hung up the communicator.

The base’s Defense Department was essentially a department for sinecures. It held no real power or military forces, only the right to make requests.

And the current head of this department was none other than Liam Grant.

The base had originally given him this position merely to keep him, the owner of the "precognitive dream" ability, stable while they waited to see if the extreme cold would truly arrive.

Now, with a zombie horde imminent, this department was the one in charge of defense.

Although she had already approved Liam Grant’s request for weapons and troops, she had also assigned Adrian Shaw to go and supervise.

After all, when it came to something like this, she couldn’t trust Liam Grant in the slightest.

However, just as she was about to go report on the situation, Adrian Paige arrived first.

"How many teams have you dispatched today?"

As soon as Adrian Paige arrived, he began meticulously manipulating the images on the various screens in the control room.

His movements were deft. Daniel Hale, standing to the side, was only surprised for a moment before he understood why.

This was the new surveillance system recently installed at the City D Base; the entire set of equipment and its system had been brought by Adrian Paige.

It was said that the equipment came from a company called the Crowley Group. Even without a satellite signal, it could detect the main roads up to five kilometers outside the base.

"Nine teams. Their main task is to clear the sections of road marked in red."

Myra Lawson replied.

Adrian Paige was one of the deputy commanders from headquarters. He was also an Intermediate Wind Element Superpower User who had earned outstanding military honors since the apocalypse, commanding great prestige everywhere.

’But his behavior now... has he discovered something?’

"Have any teams been sent near the pier?"

Adrian Paige asked.

"No. Given the situation near the pier, it would likely be counterproductive."

Myra Lawson didn’t know why Adrian Paige was asking this.

"Someone should be clearing zombies over at the pier. Quick, look here."

Adrian Paige pointed to a gap in the zombie formation on the screen.

The zombies, which had been densely packed there, were actually starting to show a break in their flow.

And the source of those zombies was an abandoned pier closest to the base.

However, the surveillance range only covered up to that point; they couldn’t see what was happening at the pier itself.

"Clearing zombies at a pier that’s already overflowing with them? How could that even be possible?"

Isaac Leopold, who had come over to observe the situation, still thought Adrian Paige’s judgment was mistaken.

But Adrian Paige insisted on his assessment.

"Whether it’s true or not, we’ll know once we go take a look."

Adrian Paige decided to investigate.

"The pier’s location is critical. If there’s a way to divert the zombies there, we might be able to avoid this horde.

I’ll take some people and go with you."

Myra Lawson decided immediately upon hearing this.

Adrian Paige nodded.

"That’s too risky. The chances of a helicopter encountering a Wind Element Mutated Zombie are high.

Adrian Paige, your status is too important. You can’t take such a risk here!"

Isaac Leopold protested.

"It’s not a risk."

Without hesitation, Adrian Paige turned and walked swiftly out.

Solara Port was an old pier in City D that had been decommissioned before the apocalypse.

Because several nearby roads had become major thoroughfares in City D’s later urban development, the pier’s location hindered the city’s growth. Thus, the original pier was moved to Rivermouth Pier in the Western Suburbs.

The pier was abandoned, but the river channel remained.

But now, on the surface of the ice that should have been frozen solid, a layer of orange magma was slowly flowing.

If one looked closely, the orange magma was flowing down from the top of an abandoned office building.

And inside the tempered glass walkway above, a figure stood by the wall, scorching liquid fire pouring from Nina Jacobs’s hands.

"The effect seems to be better than I expected. Are you guys still safe over there?"

Nina Jacobs asked over the walkie-talkie.

"All safe here. But it sounds pretty lively on your end."

Nia, Wayne Warner, and Ethan Young were resting in a car. They had temporarily cleared the surrounding zombies.

"Yeah, it’s definitely lively."

Nina Jacobs replied, looking down at the thousands upon thousands of screeching zombies below.
