Chapter 554: Chapter 553: Two sides of a coin
Inside the carriage, Rasel watched Keith and Kiro sit inside, both glancing around to ensure she was alright.
"Do you know why I told them not to carry it?" Rasel asked as both Kiro and Keith shook their heads.
"Well, I basically have a lot of enemies. I don’t know if those maids are spies or assassins. Who knows what they might have put in there?" Rasel said.
Keith frowned.
It might sound far-fetched, but after reading the books, he understood.
Things were not always as they seemed in the outside world.
Everything she said was the truth.
"In addition, everyone is looking at me, monitoring my every move. Just by this carriage moving out, more than a hundred spies have already been alarmed and reported it to their leaders."
"Not to mention some of our guards outside the carriage. Most, if not all, are working for the princes," Rasel said with a smile.
"Master, how are you so calm? Sorry to ask, but... if it is as you say, then won’t this trip be under everyone’s watchful eyes and the perfect chance for you to be assassinated?" Keith asked.
"Not to mention that this time they won’t be limited and will send those at Rank 0," Kiro added with a faint smile.
"You already know the answer, so say it, Kiro," Rasel said.
Kiro chuckled.
"Keith... you might need to change your name back to the Devil."
"We’re going to kill alot ..."
"And when I say a lot..."
"I mean..."
"A lot."
The instant Kiro’s words landed...
"Enemy attack!"
"Ahhh!"
"Shoot them!"
"Fire the arrows!"
"Idiot! They’re coming from the side!"
Noises erupted from outside as the carriage shook and slowly came to a stop.
Keith’s eyes widened as the scent of blood quickly filled the air.
"Should we go now?" Keith stood up as he asked.
Rasel’s expression immediately changed.
"It seems you’ve forgotten something."
"I’m still your master."
"You don’t move unless I do," Rasel spoke slowly.
"Or have I been too easygoing?" Rasel asked.
The carriage fell silent.
Keith froze before sitting back down.
"My apologies, Master," Keith said.
He felt uncomfortable.
After all, he wasn’t someone who was used to listening to orders.
He always did what he wanted, and even though he had gained a master...
They had been too casual with one another.
Anyone could tell from the way they spoke.
For Keith, coming from his background, it had become easy to forget that he was now a bodyguard.
Well...
One still in training.
Kiro, on the other hand, remained relaxed, not worried in the slightest.
The atmosphere suddenly became awkward.
Briefly afterward, it was filled with screams as the guards outside died one after another.
Finally...
Everything became quiet.
"Like I said, the guards outside are spies."
"But they think I don’t know."
"They’re willing to sacrifice them because, after all, they’re just pawns."
"Well, using their hands to kill one another saves me the hassle."
"Now..."
"You can clear the area."
Rasel spoke.
Kiro stood up and exited the carriage.
"Come on," Kiro said.
Keith looked at Rasel.
Her expression was calm.
Far too calm.
It gave him goosebumps.
He gulped before standing up and following Kiro outside.
Once outside, the scenery was that of a vast forest.
At that moment, they had stopped on the road passing through it.
Corpses littered the ground everywhere.
But for Kiro and Keith, who were used to such a lifestyle, it wasn’t surprising.
What was surprising were the beings surrounding them.
There were at least hundreds of humans, all covered up and wielding various weapons.
The most surprising thing was the masks covering their faces.
"I’ll take the ones on the left."
"You take the ones on the right," Kiro said.
"What about the ones in the middle?" Keith asked.
Kiro chuckled.
"Bonuses."
Boom!
The ground cracked beneath their feet as two Rank 0 auras erupted.
One at the Low Rank 0 level.
The other at the Middle Rank 0 level.
The human assailants on the other side charged as the two forces clashed.
Shiiiaaa!
Crack!
Clang!
Boom!
The soldiers ripped trees from the ground as heads flew through the air, bones shattered, and bodies were mangled.
Standing atop the carriage, Devon nodded, a faint smile appearing on his face.
These slaves had been the right choice.
He never regretted the Princess buying them.
They had faced life-and-death battles countless times and survived.
The way they fought...Was different.
They weren’t thinking about which body part to target, which attack could deal more damage, using a flashy skill or attack, or trying to outsmart their opponents.
No. What had been purely ingrained into them was to kill. Their attacks were not aimed at disarming their enemies, but at outright killing them.
Their bodies moved instinctively, constantly looking for the most effective way to guarantee a killing blow.
The two, rivals turned allies, fought like two sides of the same coin—apart, yet spinning on the same rotational axis.
Devon had already seen what Kiro could do, but now, with the addition of Keith, he began seeing them as more than slaves.
This was a dangerous combination, one that could be trained into the ultimate killing duo.
Kiro grabbed the hammer and broke the spine of one enemy before turning and smashing it straight down onto the neck of another who was trying to stab him.
In front of him, Keith opened his palm as his hand reached behind him. The sword of the one Kiro had just killed flew into his hand.
Grabbing it, Keith thrust it directly into the chest of the one attacking him as the giant mace he was holding fell forward.
Kiro, at the back, saw this and moved. He imitated a pitcher’s stance, and then—
Bang!
"Ahhh!"
He smashed the mace, causing it to shatter, and the fragments buried themselves into the eyes of more than five humans, piercing through their skulls.
Keith moved back, dodging a spear thrust as he raised his leg and smashed it down.
Crack!
The human’s leg shattered as he lost his balance and fell forward.
Before the human could scream, a knee smashed into his falling head.
Splurt!
The head exploded like a pumpkin. While the body still hadn’t fallen, Keith grabbed the spine and pulled it out. The human’s body ripped apart as a whip made of bone was formed.
He swung it, and it wrapped around the necks of two humans close to him. Keith drew them closer, then, gripping the other end of the spine, pulled.
Rip!
Their heads were severed instantly.
But just then...
Shirk!
Keith was stabbed through the stomach as a longsword pierced his body, and his clothes were quickly dyed red.
