Abyss Tree Evolution: A Mission to Conquer the World
Chapter 216: Betrayal
Suddenly, amid everyone standing ready to fend off Imris’s attack, seven Third Level people fell dead in a single moment.
Without a sound, without any warning, without any reaction. They all fell in an eerie silence, as though their souls had been ripped from them in an instant, and the strange thing was that not a single one of them was near another!
The Falcons’ bodies trembled in terror at this sight, and when they exerted their utmost effort to search for Imris they couldn’t find him, but they found ten more corpses had fallen!
With every passing moment more corpses fell, until in the end only a small number of people remained, barely enough to count on your fingers, and at this point Imris completely ignored the Third Level fighters and suddenly appeared behind the Falcon Queen, reaching his hand toward her!
The instant the Falcon Queen sensed Imris’s presence, she immediately activated her Law of Wind abilities and created a fiercely spinning, powerful tornado around herself, trapping Imris within it as well, but after some time, the tornado gradually calmed and quickly took the shape of a human figure!
"It’s futile for you to face a user of the Cosmic Law of Formation with one of the basic elemental laws!" Imris appeared, gripping the Falcon King’s neck from behind without a single scratch on him, speaking calmly.
"Let her go!" the Falcon King stepped forward twice, intending to attack to help his wife, but the moment he advanced, his eyes widened!
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
The Falcon Queen screamed in pain and agony, and on the ground beneath her lay two white wings, severed from their base and stained with blood, while on her back, on one side, two wings remained, and on the other side blood flowed without stopping, a massive gaping wound appearing where the wings had been severed!
"Make one more move, and your beloved queen will lose even more blood!" Imris pointed his dagger, free of any trace of blood, at the Falcon King, threatening him.
"Alright, alright, there’s no need for any more bloodshed, we surrender, we surrender, please just keep her alive!" the Falcon King raised his hands in a sign of surrender, looking at his wife in worry. But suddenly his eyes widened again in astonishment.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
The Falcon Queen screamed again in agony, blood gushing from her back once more like a fountain, and her two remaining wings fell to the ground after Imris severed them, and she no longer had the strength to stand from sheer weakness, but Imris, gripping her neck firmly, kept her from falling.
"Didn’t I say that any further movement from you would cause your beloved queen to lose even more blood?" Imris tilted his head slightly to the side and asked calmly.
Seeing Imris’s reaction, the Falcon King remained frozen in place, not daring to make any movement. Seeing this, Imris smiled and gestured to one of the Fourth Level elves to begin capturing them.
Three elves stepped forward and began capturing everyone one after another, using extremely sturdy restraints, reinforced with arrays that blocked the flow of energy, and the Falcon King’s capture was no exception.
"Now that we’ve already surrendered, let her go" the Falcon King gritted his teeth and shouted angrily at Imris, but in response, Imris smiled calmly at him.
"Tell me, Falcon King, do you know what the feeling of loss is like?" Imris released the Falcon Queen from his grip and pushed her toward the Falcon King, directing his question at him.
"Who doesn’t know it" the Falcon King held his wife with both his shackled hands, bound in metal cuffs, and looked at Imris, answering.
"Good" Imris nodded at him and asked again "then do you know what the feeling of betrayal is like?"
"Certainly, anyone who’s lived a long life has experienced it at least once!" the Falcon King answered again, not understanding the point of Imris’s questions.
"No" Imris shook his head and stepped toward them, then passed by them and continued on his way, but he spoke a few words in a cold voice the moment he passed them, his back now turned to them...
"You don’t know what that feeling is like... but I’d be glad to show it to you!"
The Falcon King watched Imris’s back as he walked away, feeling a strange unease at those words, but once his shadow had finally vanished outside the palace, he turned to look at his wife again, only to find her simply staring at him!
"What’s wrong with you?" the Falcon King raised his hand to touch his wife’s face, but the instant he touched that face, it began to split and separate at the neck, and her head quickly separated from atop her neck!
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
"Your Highness Royal Guardian, what shall we do now. The capital has fallen into our hands, and what remains of the resistance isn’t worth mentioning!" one of the Fourth Level warriors approached and knelt beside Imris, reporting to him how far their occupation of the Storm Kingdom had progressed.
Imris stood calmly before the royal palace atop Storm Mountain, his eyes piercing through the fog and clouds, seeing the scenes of the massacres taking place below. When he saw the warrior’s silence, he rose from his kneeling position and stood beside him, then removed his helmet.
"I know you’re still young and your eyes haven’t yet grown accustomed to such sights, but all these people contributed to supporting our killing and attacked us many times over, none of them are innocent!"
"You’re wrong, former Royal Guardian!" Imris looked at that elf with calm eyes, showing no sign of being affected by anything.
He was an elf between thirty and forty years old, who had previously served as a Royal Guardian during Rios’s reign. But after King Vaelor’s rise, the old Royal Guard system had been completely abolished, and now only two people held that title — Orion and Imris.
"Rather, there are plenty of innocents amid this massacre, and you know that well!" Imris spoke calmly, in a cold voice, then continued mockingly "but we did not come as conquerors, we came as avengers!"
The guard looked at Imris in astonishment for a while, but Imris’s voice quickly brought him back to reality!
"Take good care of this kingdom, kill every resister, and preserve every prisoner, and don’t attack any nearby city, and if anyone dares attack you, destroy them" Imris turned and began heading back inside the palace again...
"As for me, I’ll return with that Falcon King to the City of Light, so His Majesty the King can decide personally what to do with him!"
