Chapter 350: Chapter 350: An Old Ox Eats Tender Grass (6)
"With me, Martin Quinn, nothing is ever a given!" Martin Quinn’s tone was incredibly aggressive.
"Thank you so much, Mr. Quinn, for going out of your way to bring me home!" The moment Nadia Chapman heard him state his name, she was inwardly shaken. ’He must be someone important,’ she thought, ’otherwise Leo Fenton wouldn’t have changed his tune so quickly! But I never imagined he’d be *the* Mr. Quinn of Aethelgard! I can’t make a single wrong move now. He’s someone I can’t afford to provoke!’
"So obedient now?" A smirk played on Martin Quinn’s lips. He found it hilarious that she was clearly resentful yet feigning immense gratitude. "In that case, I’ll be waiting for your thank-you gift." Seeing her eyes fly wide with shock, his mood improved even further. "Drive!"
Leo Warren scrambled to start the car. ’I can’t afford one slip-up,’ he worried, ’or Mr. Quinn will replace me on the spot. If that happens, my subordinates will laugh me out of town!’
Nadia Chapman’s brow furrowed into a tight knot. ’A thank-you gift? He actually wants a thank-you gift? I’ve met shameless people before, but no one on this level! My "thank you" was forced enough as it is, okay? If it weren’t for a shred of basic decency, I wouldn’t have said a word! It’s not like I begged him for a ride! There are plenty of taxis in this city!’
In her mind, Nadia Chapman had already cursed Martin Quinn and his entire family tree.
While Nadia Chapman was stewing in frustration, things were much calmer on Seraphina Sterling’s end. Jasmine Faulkner had been deeply resentful that Walter Sterling had spent a fortune on a jade hairpin for Seraphina at the antique auction. But she no longer had the energy to dwell on it. All her attention was now focused on Faye Sterling, whom she took to a psychologist every day, hoping she would quickly return to normal. That way, they would have someone to speak for them in front of the patriarch. After all, the old man held the purse strings, and they couldn’t let all that money end up with Kimberly Jennings and her daughter.
To please her grandfather, Seraphina had been wearing the hairpin for the last few days. She would casually sweep her elegant, long hair into a bun, letting a single lock trail down her back. The style was a fusion of classical and modern, and you had to admit, her grandfather had excellent taste—the hairpin suited her perfectly.
Without Jasmine Faulkner’s interference, Seraphina’s days were wonderfully pleasant. Because school was starting.
Aethelgard University, the Apex Premier Academy—her college life was about to begin! But before that, she had one important problem to solve.
"Terrence Grant, today is the last day of registration! If you delay me any longer, I’m going to miss it!" Seraphina glared at the car blocking her path, completely exasperated. ’What on earth is he trying to pull?’
"Exactly. So, to save time, you should just get in my car. We can talk on the way; it won’t keep you from getting to school and registering," Terrence Grant said, completely unhurried. The brilliant smile on his face made Seraphina want to kick him.
Seraphina glanced at her watch and ground her teeth with an audible CRUNCH. "Fine, you win."
Once she was in the car, Terrence Grant was true to his word. He immediately started the engine and headed toward Aethelgard University. But once they were moving, he fell silent, contrary to his claim that he had something to discuss with her.
"If you’re not going to say anything, we’ll be there in about three blocks." The cool air from the vents had extinguished the flames of her anger from being blocked earlier.
"There’s a box behind you. Open it." Terrence Grant kept his eyes on the road, but if you listened closely, you could detect a slight strain in his voice.
Puzzled, Seraphina opened the exquisite, square gift box. Inside lay a matching set—a bracelet, earrings, and a ring—all made of translucent, emerald-green jade. She stared at Terrence Grant in shock. "You were at the antique auction, too?"
