A Night of Desire
Chapter 761 - 758: Can You Forgive Me?
Chapter 761: Chapter 758: Can You Forgive Me?
In the Quinn family’s main hall, Sienna Hale stood beside Clara Grant. She looked at her and called out, "Clara..." She seemed to want to say something, but then she glanced at Seth Quinn and Theodore Quinn. It was as if their presence made her too embarrassed to speak.
Theodore Quinn knew his wife well. He immediately called out to Seth Quinn, "Come on, go upstairs with Dad. Help me see if my recent calligraphy has improved."
Seth Quinn was perceptive and naturally understood that his mother wanted to talk to Clara alone. His father was just helping his mother get him out of the way.
He understood that his mother had always looked down on Clara because of her background. The misunderstanding between the two of them could only be truly resolved if they talked it out themselves.
So, he nodded and followed Theodore Quinn upstairs.
Once they were upstairs, Sienna Hale took Clara Grant’s hand and sat down with her on the sofa.
Ever since they had first met, Sienna Hale had always been cold and dismissive toward Clara because of her background. Even after she agreed to let Clara move into the Quinn residence and they saw each other daily, her mother-in-law’s attitude had only improved slightly. She had never been this gentle and kind, holding her hand and affectionately calling her Clara.
Despite all this, Clara Grant had always treated her mother-in-law with the utmost respect and had never held any grudges against her.
Now, seeing Sienna Hale’s hesitant expression, she smiled and asked, "Mom, what is it? You can just say whatever is on your mind."
Sienna Hale looked at her smiling face and hesitated no longer. She patted Clara’s hand and said, "Clara, dear, I was in the wrong before. It was my fault. My attitude toward you was terrible because of your background. I’m apologizing to you now. Can you forgive me?"
Clara Grant was stunned to hear her mother-in-law actually apologizing to her. After a moment, she collected herself and said, "Mom, I’ve never blamed you at all. I know you had your own position and difficulties. After all, a prominent family like the Quinns is always in the public eye."
Sienna Hale was moved to hear that Clara not only didn’t blame her but was even trying to see things from her perspective. "Clara, I’m so happy that you don’t blame me. To be honest, I was a bit old-fashioned at first. I always felt that for a great family like ours, marrying a daughter-in-law with a low social standing would make us a laughingstock.
"But later, your father and Seth both talked to me, tried to change my mind, and I gradually came around. I realized that as long as you and Seth are happy together, what does your background matter? But..."
As she spoke, she shook her head with an embarrassed smile. "But I was too proud to apologize to you, so I kept being critical and finding fault with you just to hide how I really felt.
"Clara, do you think I’m ridiculous? To be this old and still not have things figured out."
Clara squeezed her hand and said with a smile, "Mom, please don’t blame yourself. I think you’ve already done so well. Compared to the mothers of other prominent families, you’re not that stubborn. At least you were willing to accept a daughter-in-law you weren’t fond of for the sake of your son’s happiness.
"Mom, actually, I should be thanking you. Thank you for accepting me and letting me move in, even when you didn’t know my past had been fabricated by others to frame me. It was your compromise that saved Seth and me from a much rockier path."
