When Clara caught up with Sierra Sutton, he had already walked out the main gate of the Quinn Residence and was standing by the road hailing a cab. The Quinns had sent someone to pick him up, so he hadn’t driven his own car.

The baby spotted Clara right away. His previously downcast little face instantly lit up with a brilliant smile, and he started babbling, "Mama... Mama..."

Sierra Sutton turned to see her and helplessly corrected his son again. "Baby, that’s Aunty. You have to call her Aunty."

Clara had already walked up to them. Hearing him correct the baby, she smiled and said, "If you can’t get him to stop, just let him call me that for now. Anyway... he’ll forget about me after a while, once he hasn’t seen me."

At the thought, Clara felt another wave of sadness. ’The baby is still so little; his memories won’t last very long. But I’m afraid I’ll remember him for the rest of my life.’

’But perhaps it’s for the best if we don’t see each other in the future. The relationships between the adults are just too complicated.’

The thought that she might never see the baby again made Clara sigh inwardly. She reached out, took the baby, and kissed him on his little cheek.

Then she turned to Sierra Sutton and asked, "Mr. Sutton, what are your plans? Will you stay in Novaria, or... go back to the U.S.A.?"

Sierra Sutton turned and glanced at a car behind him to the left. It was Autumn Shelby’s. The three members of the Shelby family were standing outside of it. Yvette Zimmerman was speaking to Autumn, an anxious look on her face; she was probably afraid Autumn was too unstable to drive.

Evan Shelby stood behind Yvette Zimmerman, a look of impatience on his face.

Sierra Sutton stared at Autumn’s profile for a moment before turning back to Clara with a smile. "I’ll stay in Novaria for now. If it’s possible, I want to wait until she’s had time to think things through and can let go of everything here. Then she can come back to the U.S.A. with me and our child.

"That’s the whole reason I came back, actually. If I can’t bring her back with me, I think it’ll be a lifelong regret. Besides, the baby is still little. His upbringing won’t be complete without his mother."

Clara also glanced in Autumn’s direction. "Shouldn’t you go say a few more words to her?"

"No. She’s unstable right now, and my presence would only agitate her more. It’s better to talk after she’s completely calmed down. In any case, I have plenty of time to wait."

Clara nodded and looked at Sierra Sutton, saying earnestly, "You know, Autumn Shelby is still lucky. At least she has you to love her, and she has her son. If she can go back to the U.S.A. with you two, I’m sure her life can still be a happy one."

She finished with a small smile. "I hope you won’t have to wait long for her to come around."

"Miss Grant, thank you. After the way Autumn treated you, you still don’t hate her... and you can still like the baby so much, even after finding out he’s her biological son."

Clara raised an eyebrow and gave a wry smile. "Hate her? Of course I do! But she’s one person, and the baby is another. And he’s so adorable, how could I not love him?"

Sierra Sutton smiled too. "Since you like children so much, you and Seth Quinn should have one of your own soon."

Clara smiled helplessly and changed the subject. "Do you want me to have Seth arrange a ride for you?"

Sierra Sutton shook his head. "No, that’s all right. I’ll just hail a cab."

Clara didn’t press the issue. "All right, you go hail a cab, then. The baby and I will wait here for you."

Sierra Sutton nodded and walked a little ways down the road to hail a cab.

Clara stood there holding the baby and playing with him. They took turns giving each other little kisses, and the baby was delighted, giggling happily.

A short distance away, Autumn Shelby turned to watch them. The sight was suddenly, incredibly jarring to her.
