Chapter 726: Chapter 723: Crashed the Car Right Into Them (Part 1)
The expression on Autumn Shelby’s face froze. In such a short time, he no longer recognized her as his biological mother.
Clara Grant held the baby and glanced over at Autumn Shelby. After a moment’s thought, she spoke gently to the child. "Sweetie, that’s your mommy. Go on, let Mommy hold you."
’No matter how many mistakes Autumn Shelby had made, she was still the baby’s biological mother. Looking at her now, she must be desperate to hold her own son.’
However, the moment she finished speaking, the baby twisted around, clung to Clara Grant’s neck, and turned his back to Autumn Shelby.
The hopeful look in Autumn Shelby’s eyes instantly turned to one of utter disappointment. At the same time, her hatred for Clara Grant intensified.
’That woman, Clara Grant! Not only did she steal the man I love most, but now she’s trying to steal my own son’s love too?’
’Just a short while ago, the baby would still call out "Mommy" to her and hold out his little arms to be held. How long has it been? And now he doesn’t want her anymore? Is he going to accept that bitch, Clara Grant, as his mother?!’
’That must be it! That bitch Clara Grant must have been deliberately, exceptionally nice to the baby, all so that he would only acknowledge her and not his real mother. That has to be it!’
At this thought, Autumn Shelby’s eyes blazed with fury once more. She struggled, but just as she was about to do something, she was dragged away by Yvette Zimmerman and Evan Shelby.
Clara Grant watched them leave, her gaze fixed on Autumn Shelby’s staggering and feeble steps. She suddenly felt that Autumn was actually quite pitiful.
’If Evan Shelby and Yvette Zimmerman had loved her enough—and loved her the right way—she wouldn’t have ended up like this.’
’The one thing she was so obsessed with turned to dust, while she failed to cherish what was truly precious. And now, even her own son won’t acknowledge her as his mother!’
Seth Quinn shot a displeased look at the little one clinging tightly to Clara Grant. He reached out with a look of distaste, plucked the boy’s small frame up, and unceremoniously handed him back to Sierra Sutton. "What are you hugging her for?" he said coolly, his voice laced with jealousy. "She’s not your real mother!"
The baby seemed frightened by Seth’s rough handling and disdainful expression. He looked at Seth Quinn, then back at Clara Grant, and his little lip began to quiver. He looked hurt and on the verge of tears.
Clara Grant frowned at Seth Quinn. Turning slightly toward him, she lowered her voice and chided, "What was that for? He’s just a child. He doesn’t know any better. You’re going to scare him."
"So what if he’s a child? I can’t stand children!" Of course, his unspoken sentiment was that he couldn’t stand any child who vied with him for her affection.
Clara Grant didn’t know what to say to that, so she could only shoot him a helpless glare.
Sierra Sutton patted his son’s back to comfort him, then turned to Clara Grant. "Excuse me, Miss Grant. If Autumn... has ever done anything to wrong you or caused you any trouble, I apologize on her behalf. Well, I’ll be taking the baby now."
With that, he gave Seth Quinn a slight nod, then turned and carried the baby away.
The baby rested on his shoulder, his eyes welling with tears as he reached a small hand out toward Clara Grant, looking utterly heartbroken to be leaving.
Seeing his sad little face, Clara Grant felt her own heart ache a little.
Skylar Hayes came over, took Clara Grant’s hand, and asked gently, "Clara, are you okay?"
Clara Grant looked at her and shook her head.
Her gaze shifted back toward Sierra Sutton’s figure. He was already carrying the baby out the main door of the living room. Clara Grant hesitated for a second, but in the end, she couldn’t resist. "I’m going to see the baby off."
