Chapter 663: Chapter 660: Little Glutton, Did You Smell the Fragrance of the Cake?
"She... After she came back, she just rented a small apartment. There wasn’t enough room for us there once we returned. So, the baby and I are staying in a hotel for now. But we’re looking for a bigger place."
Sierra Sutton knew that Autumn Shelby and her parents weren’t ready for anyone to know about their relationship, let alone the fact that they had a child.
So, he ultimately decided to cover for her.
Clara Grant nodded, showing her understanding.
Once they were upstairs, Sierra Sutton opened the door with the key card, and they both stepped inside.
Clara Grant glanced around the suite, then looked toward one of the doors. "Mr. Sutton, is that the bedroom? I’ll go put the baby down on the bed."
Sierra Sutton nodded, but just as he was about to say something, the doorbell suddenly rang.
Sierra Sutton suddenly remembered his earlier call with Yvette Zimmerman—she had said she would have Autumn Shelby come find them. A wave of panic washed over him. ’If that’s really Autumn, what will she think if she sees another woman in my room holding the baby? Will she get the wrong idea?’
He glanced at Clara Grant and saw that she had also paused on her way to the bedroom, her eyes fixed on the door.
The doorbell kept ringing, and it would seem strange if he didn’t answer. With no other choice, Sierra Sutton started toward the entrance.
Standing by the door, he first peeked through the peephole. It wasn’t Autumn Shelby; it was a hotel employee.
For a moment, Sierra Sutton was simultaneously relieved and a little disappointed.
He opened the door. A hotel employee stood there with a wide smile, gesturing with the item in his hand. "Hello, Mr. Sutton," he said politely. "This is the cake you ordered. Should I bring it inside for you?"
Sierra Sutton looked at the cake box in the man’s hands and reached out to take it. "I can take it, thanks."
The employee handed him the cake, said a polite goodbye, and left.
Sierra Sutton closed the door and walked back in, carrying the cake.
Clara Grant looked at the box in his hands. "Is that the birthday cake you ordered for the baby?" she asked.
Sierra Sutton walked to the sofa, setting the cake down on the coffee table. He nodded, a hint of sadness returning to his expression. "Yeah. I was hoping to celebrate with his mother, but..."
Before he could finish, the baby in Clara Grant’s arms stirred. She barely had time to look down before the baby struggled upright. He let out a couple of giggles upon seeing Clara Grant, then turned his head to look at Sierra Sutton.
His gaze only lingered for a moment, however, before landing on the cake on the coffee table. He immediately started tugging on Clara Grant’s shirt with his little hands, babbling insistently. Clara Grant understood—he wanted her to take him to the cake.
Clara Grant was both amused and exasperated. "Baby," she teased, "you’re such a little foodie. You woke up the second the cake arrived. Did you smell it or something?"
Despite her teasing, she indulged him. She walked over to the sofa and sat down, letting the baby stand on the floor while she held his hands to keep him steady.
Sierra Sutton smiled with fond exasperation and shook his head, sitting down on the sofa next to them.
The baby was just tall enough for his head to clear the coffee table. He stood there and promptly reached out, slapping his hands firmly against the cake box.
Clara Grant quickly intervened. "Careful, sweetie. You’ll smash the cake."
The baby just turned his head and grinned at her, showing off his few little teeth.
