Chapter 614: Chapter 611: We’ve Already Registered Our Marriage
"So, Mr. Stratton, let’s put aside the issue of you marrying Sarah for a moment. Why on earth are you sending so many people to follow her when she goes to class? Sarah is your fiancée, not a prisoner, is she? This is surveillance, plain and simple. What right do you have to treat her this way?"
"Surveillance? That’s just your interpretation. I could just as easily say you’re jumping to conclusions. I sent people to follow her because I was worried she might be bullied or wronged at school. They’re there to protect her.
Also, let me correct you on one point, Mrs. Quinn. As of today, Sarah Shelby is no longer my fiancée. She is my wife. We officially registered our marriage this morning."
Ewan Stratton’s final, seemingly casual words made Clara jolt up from her chair. "What? You forced Sarah to marry you?"
For the first time since Clara had entered the teahouse, Ewan Stratton frowned. His voice grew cold and hard. "Let me correct you again. I didn’t force her. She did it of her own free will.
In any case, Sarah Shelby and I are husband and wife now. It would be rather inappropriate for you, Mrs. Quinn, to involve yourself in our marital affairs going forward."
When he finished speaking, he raised a hand toward a corner, and someone immediately came to stand behind him.
Ewan Stratton glanced at Seth Quinn and Clara. "I’ve wasted enough time today. Even though I’m a cripple, I still have plenty to do every day. So, in the future, unless it’s a major issue, it would be best if you didn’t ask to meet with me, Mr. and Mrs. Quinn."
He had barely finished speaking when the person behind him gripped the handles of the wheelchair, ready to push him away.
Seeing that he was about to leave, Clara finally snapped out of the shock of his announcement. She called out to stop him, asking, "Then where is Sarah now?"
Ewan Stratton looked back, a hint of sarcasm in his eyes as he stared at her. "Why? You’re not planning to find her and convince her to divorce me, are you, Mrs. Quinn?"
Clara was in no mood to argue. She just stared at him intently and repeated, "I just want to know where Sarah is. Please tell me, Mr. Stratton."
But Ewan Stratton just shrugged. "I don’t know. After we registered the marriage, she asked me to give her one last taste of freedom. I agreed and called off the people who were following her. So, I don’t know where she is either."
With that, Ewan Stratton didn’t linger. His man wheeled him away.
Clara immediately pulled out her phone to call Sarah. It rang, but no one picked up.
"Seth, what should we do? Sarah must feel completely hopeless right now. I’m so afraid something will happen to her." The more Clara thought about it, the more frightened she became, gripping Seth’s hand tightly.
"Clara, calm down," Seth said, comforting her. "I think she probably just wants to be alone for a while to clear her head. Nothing bad will happen. If she were going to do something drastic, she wouldn’t have waited this long. How about this? If you’re really that worried, we’ll go look for her."
Clara, her heart in a flutter, nodded, and the two of them headed outside.
They had just gotten into the car, not yet having started the engine, when Clara’s phone let out a DING. It was a WeChat notification.
Clara hurriedly opened it. The message from Sarah was simple:
Clara, I’m fine. Don’t worry about me. I just want to be alone for a bit to clear my head. You don’t need to look for me. I’ll come find you when I’m ready.
Clara immediately tried calling again, but Sarah’s phone was already off.
