Chapter 615: Chapter 612: Please Call Me Madam, Thank You

Seth Quinn saw the message too. After a moment’s thought, he said, "Clara, don’t worry. She’ll be fine. You know her better than I do, and she’s not as fragile as you think. Since she wants some quiet time, we should just leave her be.

"She’s the one who has to live her life from now on. She’ll only be able to move on and live well once she comes to terms with it herself."

Clara knew he was right. ’It’s Sarah’s life, after all. Now that she’s married to Ewan Stratton, things aren’t as simple as they were before.

Getting a divorce is much more complicated than breaking off an engagement.’

Clara nodded, but she was still worried about Sarah. A wave of self-reproach washed over her. ’In the end, I wasn’t able to help her at all.’

...

After sending the message to Clara, Sarah Shelby turned off her phone. She didn’t want to see anyone right now. All she wanted was to drink alone until she passed out.

She tossed her phone casually onto the counter and waved a hand at the bartender. "Get me a whiskey."

The bartender glanced at her and kindly advised, "Miss, whiskey isn’t really a lady’s drink. How about a Blue Hawaiian instead?"

But Sarah shot him a sideways glance and waved her hand dismissively. "Cut the crap. I want a whiskey."

The bartender had no choice but to reply, "Alright, Miss. One moment."

He’d seen plenty of people come to the bar to drink their sorrows away. ’She’s clearly unhappy and here to get wasted. You can’t reason with someone who’s determined to get drunk.’

A moment later, he placed a glass in front of Sarah. "Miss, your whiskey."

Sarah picked up the glass and took a large gulp. Just as the bartender was turning to leave, she stopped him with a muffled "Mm," her mouth still full of liquor.

The bartender looked at her, confused. Sarah swallowed the liquor and said, "And another thing. Don’t call me ’Miss.’ I got my marriage certificate today. I’m a married woman now! So, please call me ’Ma’am.’ Thank you."

The young bartender smiled and nodded. "Alright, Ma’am. Enjoy."

’Did she come here from another bar? How else is she already drunk before she’s even started?’

Hearing him call her "Ma’am," Sarah’s lips suddenly curled into a smile.

’That’s right. I got married today. From now on, I’m someone’s wife, part of another family. I can’t be as carefree as I used to be, doing whatever I please.’

’Still, she hadn’t expected Ewan Stratton to agree. He’d given her this final moment of freedom, a last chance to let loose. A fitting end to her single life, I suppose.’

With that thought, Sarah raised her glass, tilted her head back, and drained it.

She raised her hand and called out to the bartender, "Hey! Another round."

...

As Chloe Grant walked into the bar, she glanced to the side and saw Sarah Shelby slumped over the counter, drinking.

Her gaze swept the area around Sarah, but she didn’t see Clara or anyone else there.

’Strange. Sarah’s drinking at a bar, and her so-called best friend, Clara, isn’t even with her?’

’Looks like this pair of "besties" are nothing more than fake friends after all.’

Chloe Grant scoffed, her lips curling into a sneer, and began to walk further inside.

Suddenly, a thought struck her, and she stopped in her tracks. She remembered Autumn Shelby asking her to find evidence that Clara was in love with Miles Quinn.

’Whatever the state of their friendship is now, they used to be inseparable. As her best friend, Sarah must know plenty of Clara’s secrets, right? Maybe I can get some valuable information out of her.’

At this thought, Chloe immediately changed course and walked over to Sarah.
