Chapter 412: Chapter 411 - Sea.

In the blink of an eye, our view changed, and the sea stretched out before me. It was a vast, beautiful expanse of blue. It was the first time I had ever seen the sea in this world, and it took my breath away.

Lili, her eyes sparkling, murmured, "Waaah..."

"Is this your first time seeing the sea?"

"Yes, it is. Is it your first time too?"

"No, I’ve seen it before." I had seen the sea in my previous world, so I answered honestly. But to be truthful, the sea in this world is far more beautiful—at least compared to the one I remembered from my old world.

I remember its color being much darker, but here it was a light, beautiful shade of blue.

Even from a distance, I could see fish swimming.

"I never imagined we’d get to Melen in just a second."

"It was the first interesting city that came to mind. We can fish, travel by ship, buy all kinds of things, eat at restaurants... There’s so much to do here."

"Come on, come on! Hurry!" Lili squeezed my hand, and I teleported us down into an alley. There was no one around, so no one saw us. Still holding her hand, we stepped out of the alley and began walking through the streets of Melen.

The city was smaller than Orario, but it somehow felt like there was even more to do.

People were shouting and selling things everywhere, and the smell of fish filled the air.

Many restaurants were already open, even though it was still very early.

"Mmm, that smells so good," Lili said.

"Do you want to eat something?"

"Hm? No, not right now. I’m not hungry. I want to see the sea up close first. I’m curious." Lili quickened her pace, and before long we reached the shoreline. Just like I said before, the water was incredibly clear.

I could see countless fish.

"But I can’t see the bottom."

Even near the harbor, the sea was incredibly deep. It reminded me of the serpent I had fought in that lake inside the Dungeon. If I remember correctly, there are sea monsters in Danmachi, but they’ve never really been explored.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a serpent like that somewhere out there.

"Wow, look how huge those fish are."

"Why don’t we rent a boat and go fishing?"

"Uh... can’t we fish here?"

"What? Are you afraid of going out into the open sea?"

Lili looked away before answering.

"Yes... I am..."

"Even if you’re with me?"

"Well... with you here, I feel a lot calmer..."

So I decided to rent a boat. I also got fishing rods for both of us. The rods were identical to the ones from my previous world. The man who arranged everything for us was very kind.

The price was more than fair as well.

Once we boarded the boat and started moving away from the harbor, Lili became noticeably nervous and moved closer to me. She looked genuinely frightened.

Before long, we were almost two kilometers away from the harbor, out in the middle of the sea.

There were many other boats around us, just like ours.

"You don’t have to be nervous. Look." I glanced into the water and saw countless fish. Lili did the same, but a moment later she shut her eyes tightly and wrapped her arms around me.

"Urgh... the bottom of the sea is so dark. It feels like there’s a monster down there watching us."

"There might be."

"Hey, don’t say things like that!"

"Hahaha." I laughed.

But I’m serious. There’s something down there.

Can you sense it too, Dragon?

[Yes. I can feel its presence.]

POV: Third Person

Some time earlier, far off the coast of Melen, a group of fishermen were aboard their boat when something strange suddenly began to happen. The sea, which had been calm moments before, started to grow violently turbulent.

The strangest part was that the sky was clear blue, and the winds weren’t particularly strong.

The men leaned over the side of the boat and looked down into the water.

Then they saw it.

An enormous creature swimming directly beneath their boat.

Every man held his breath before one of them shouted, "Captain! We have to get out of here right now! There’s a creature directly beneath us!"

Hearing this, the captain felt his heart begin to race.

"All right! Hold on!" he shouted as he raised the sail.

The wind caught it, and the boat began to move.

Then, all of a sudden, it stopped.

It was as if something was holding it in place.

’Damn...’

The captain realized it was already too late.

Then the fishermen felt a tremendous impact.

BOOM!

A moment later, another impact.

BOOM!

Then a third.

BOOM!

When the third strike hit, the boat cracked. In fact, it nearly split in half all at once. The fishermen panicked and began screaming. Several of them drew their swords, as some were adventurers prepared to fight.

But of course, there was nothing they could do.

The captain watched as every one of his men was swallowed by a gigantic creature covered in dark blue scales. It was over fifteen meters long, with an enormous mouth.

The captain held his breath and remained perfectly still as the broken boat slowly sank.

He hoped the monster would leave and spare him.

If it did, he might somehow be able to swim back to the harbor.

But suddenly, the wooden planks shielding him shattered apart, and the captain saw the creature’s massive fangs rushing toward him.

With a single bite, his body was torn in half, and his life came to an end.

Dark red stains spread across the surface of the sea as the remains of the boat slowly disappeared into the darkness of the ocean.

Luan and the Dragon had sensed the monster’s presence, but they decided not to do anything about it. He didn’t want to frighten Lili.

Luan picked up his fishing rod, and the two of them continued fishing as though nothing had happened. Even so, while they fished, Luan asked the Dragon to keep watch in case the monster decided to attack.

Time passed.

Lili and Luan caught several fish.

One hour.

Then two.

Eventually, Lili grew tired of fishing and asked Luan to head back to the harbor. The increasingly rough waves were beginning to make her feel a little seasick.

That was when the Dragon gave its warning.

[It’s coming.]

Luan smiled and, without saying a word, scooped Lili into his arms.

Seconds later, Luan and Lili were high in the sky, while the boat they had been riding only moments before was split clean in half.
