Chapter 219: Chapter 219: Feng Jiaojiao Causes a Scene
"Oh, are you talking about Qian Kang’s divorce application? You’re too late, it’s already been approved and should be going through the process now."
After speaking, Liu Hongjun calmly took a sip of tea. His composed demeanor had none of the helplessness or reluctance from just moments before.
"What? How could you approve it! That’s my daughter’s marriage we’re talking about! Qian Kang is such a fool, I must take the application back and make them think it through. This marriage can’t end." Father Feng’s voice suddenly rose, his face turning beet red.
Liu Hongjun lightly sighed, shook his head, and looked at Father Feng with genuine eyes.
"Old Feng, I’ve advised you about this before. Don’t always indulge Jiaojiao’s tantrums. Now that Qian Kang wants a divorce, according to the rules, I have no reason to withhold it." Liu Hongjun’s tone was firm, showing no sign of relenting.
"He’s my soldier; how he climbed to this position, I’m clearer than anyone. You did mention it a few times, but you should understand, without Qian Kang’s own efforts, could he have been promoted by your mere words?" Liu Hongjun looked up at Father Feng, and the light in his eyes made Father Feng shiver.
Liu Hongjun was backing Qian Kang.
"There are no cowardly soldiers under me, Liu Hongjun—only brave warriors who fight to the death!" Liu Hongjun stated unequivocally.
"Of course, I know, and I’ve never doubted that! Now it’s about him wanting a divorce; we’ve known each other for many years, and you won’t even help a little? I don’t believe Qian Kang is dead set on this; it must be a moment of impulse. If I take it back and persuade them, maybe it’ll blow over." Seeing the hard approach wasn’t working, Father Feng immediately softened.
Liu Hongjun stood up, circled his desk, walked over to Father Feng, and patted his shoulder.
"Old Feng, Qian Kang is my most stable soldier, never acts impulsively. His application proves that he’s really thought it through and decided! As elders, we can’t just forcefully change the outcome; they need to face it themselves, solve the core problems."
"I’ve also talked to Qian Kang, and he firmly said he wants to resolve it, but Jiaojiao doesn’t agree and keeps using you to pressure him! You can’t just blame Qian Kang; the biggest problem is Jiaojiao."
Liu Hongjun’s eyes were full of concern, but his attitude remained resolute.
Father Feng trembled slightly when he heard Liu Hongjun’s words, his lips moved but he was momentarily speechless. In the end, he could only sigh deeply in helplessness, his eyes full of unwillingness and disappointment.
"Is it really irreparable?"
"You should focus on Jiaojiao, and you have responsibilities too," Liu Hongjun stated frankly.
Father Feng had interfered in this matter too many times, leading to an imbalance, even a one-sided situation between them.
"The child is so grown up, you should let go! Since you let her marry, you shouldn’t extend your reach so far. Their life is theirs; if you interfere too much, she’ll never grow up," Liu Hongjun advised earnestly.
"She’s my daughter, is it wrong for me to not want her to get hurt?" Father Feng replied, feeling stifled.
"Then take her back home! My place is the army, not your home. I don’t have pampered soldiers here, only fierce beasts." Seeing him still making excuses, Liu Hongjun shook his head in disappointment.
"I have to attend a meeting, make yourself at home." Liu Hongjun waved his hand.
Father Feng glanced at him, left the office with a sullen face.
When Feng Jiaojiao found out that her father couldn’t retrieve the divorce application and Qian Kang’s determination for divorce remained firm, she broke down completely.
Qian Kang was sitting in the office, organizing files, when he heard a noise and looked up to see Feng Jiaojiao bursting in.
"Qian Kang, how can you be so heartless! I will never agree to this divorce!" Feng Jiaojiao screamed, rushing forward to snatch the files from Qian Kang’s hands, tearing them into pieces, scattering them like snowflakes all over the floor.
The office wasn’t empty; Lu Feng was sitting nearby, watching Feng Jiaojiao’s antics, and put down his own files.
"This is an office, not your home."
Hearing Lu Feng’s words, Qian Kang suddenly stood up, frowning, and shouted. "Jiaojiao, stop acting out, it’s come to this, and making a fuss won’t help! Go back now!"
Feng Jiaojiao turned a deaf ear, crying while frantically sweeping everything off the desk, cups, documents falling to the ground with a series of crashing sounds.
Seeing the destroyed files, the mess all over the floor, and the utterly irrational Feng Jiaojiao, Qian Kang’s expression gradually turned cold and determined.
"Enough!" Qian Kang shouted angrily, his voice echoing throughout the room with unprecedented authority and decisiveness.
"Feng Jiaojiao, look at yourself now, this has always been how we get along, and I’ve had enough!"
"Qian Kang, don’t forget..." Feng Jiaojiao, seeing his attitude, still tried to bring up Father Feng.
"I know you want to say I’ve relied entirely on your father’s power! But let me tell you here, I’ve never gained anything based on your father’s power; all my achievements are earned through my own efforts!" From the moment Feng Jiaojiao opened her mouth, Qian Kang knew what she wanted to say.
It was nothing else but trying to use her father as leverage.
Lu Feng stepped forward with a cold demeanor. "Your father doesn’t have such influence that I would hand over accolades to him! Qian Kang’s achievements are his own, fought for with his life. Whether it’s him or anyone from our unit, it’s only about the extent of achievement, not fabrication of achievements!"
"If you truly acknowledged his efforts, you wouldn’t say such foolish things!"
Lu Feng’s unexpected defense of Qian Kang left everyone in the office stunned, but after hearing Lu Feng’s words, everyone firmly believed in them without a doubt.
"Lu Tuan is right, our military achievements are genuine. They’ve never been just words from a leader! Open and fair."
"That’s right, Lu Tuan’s accolades were earned with his life, everyone knows that, and Qian Kang is right behind him, consistently second rank, how could that be fabricated!"
"You’re going too far, you’re questioning all of us!"
"Exactly! Can these things be faked? Every scar on our bodies is real!"
"..."
Feng Jiaojiao succeeded in angering everyone by questioning Qian Kang’s achievements, which was equivalent to questioning their unit.
"No wonder Qian Kang wants to divorce her; even if you gave me such a wife, I wouldn’t want her! Dumb as a pig."
"She’s truly stupid, how can she say such things?"
"Even if her father is powerful, can he make the enemy shoot fewer bullets on the battlefield? It’s utterly ridiculous."
Hearing the surrounding voices, onlookers couldn’t help but join in, pointing and mocking Feng Jiaojiao.
They even spoke louder, afraid that Feng Jiaojiao couldn’t hear them.
If they could, they would have pointed at her head and cursed.
"Feng Jiaojiao, I’ll say this one last time, this marriage is definitely over." Qian Kang’s expression softened a bit, at least everyone was bright-eyed and didn’t look down on him because of Feng Jiaojiao’s words.
