Chapter 218: Chapter 218: Father Feng’s Overbearing Force

Father Feng was trembling with anger, the veins on his forehead bulging, his eyes glaring wide open as he stared at Qian Kang, as if trying to pierce him with his gaze.

"Qian Kang, don’t be foolish! Are you really going to give up your promising future in the army for such a trivial matter?"

Qian Kang took a deep breath, his chest heaving violently, meeting his father-in-law’s gaze with determination in his eyes, his voice low but carrying undeniable resolve.

"The achievements I fought for, in Jiaojiao’s mouth, have become a weapon to belittle and deny me, Dad, tell me! Should I continue to endure such accusations? If I don’t meet her expectations, she brings up the past, using your name to force me to compromise. If I don’t do as she says, I’m an ingrate, a heartless wretch."

"Dad, is that what you think too?"

Father Feng shuddered, now it was his turn to be questioned.

He had indeed mentioned a few things to Qian Kang over the years, but Qian Kang was right, he had been given opportunities but it was also up to him to prove himself.

"But you’ve been married for so many years, are you really going to divorce over this?" Father Feng paused, speaking in a solemn tone.

"To you, it’s indeed ’this little matter’, but it’s not you being doubted, not you being looked down upon. You are just high up there, attributing my efforts to yourselves." Qian Kang looked at Father Feng and the Feng Family without humility or arrogance.

"From the very beginning, you have looked down on me. You disdain my efforts, in your eyes, I’m just a pawn at your disposal. All my premises are based on obedience, in public, I’m the good son-in-law, the good husband. If there’s ever dissatisfaction, I’m the ingrate, the villain."

Qian Kang had long understood this after so many years, he just wasn’t inclined to say it out loud, which didn’t mean he was a fool, unable to grasp their thoughts.

Feng Jiaojiao heard this, her eyes filled with shock and panic, she staggered a step forward, reaching out to grab Qian Kang’s sleeve, her voice trembling intensely.

"Qian Kang, are you out of your mind! What are you saying to my dad?"

Qian Kang slowly turned his head, his gaze falling on Feng Jiaojiao’s hand holding his sleeve, his eyes flashing a complicated emotion, then gently pried open her fingers, his movements seeming gentle but full of unwavering resolve.

"Jiaojiao, I’ve thought about it for a long time, this isn’t impulsive. All these years in your family, in the army, I’ve been trying to conform, enduring in every way, yet all I get in return is escalating oppression. I’ve had enough of this stifling life, even if I have to start from scratch, it’s better than continuing to suffer in this painful marriage."

Father Feng crossed his arms, sneering with a face full of disdain and mockery. "Hmph, easy for you to say! You think leaving the army, the outside world will be so easy to navigate? When things get tough, you’ll realize how foolish your decision is today!"

Qian Kang straightened his spine, slightly lifting his head, his gaze directed into the distance, as if he already saw the path ahead.

"Even if the path outside is tough, it’s still a path I’ve chosen myself. At least I won’t have to look at others’ faces, won’t have to swallow my grievances just to maintain superficial harmony. This marriage, I’m determined to end it."

No matter how full of hardships, he’s resigned to it.

The air inside the room seemed to solidify, Father Feng and Feng Jiaojiao were left speechless by Qian Kang’s determined attitude.

Qian Kang’s expression was calm, as if he had finally shed a heavy shackle of many years.

"I’ve already submitted the divorce application, and once it’s approved, I want nothing, you can take everything from this house with you."

Feng Jiaojiao looked at the resolute Qian Kang, her tears bursting forth like a breached flood.

"Qian Kang, I’m wrong, really wrong. Let’s not divorce, okay?"

Feng Jiaojiao tilted her tear-streaked face, her voice tearful, nearly choking, attempting to reach out to grab Qian Kang’s clothing, as Qian Kang silently stepped back two steps.

"I was too willful, too immature before, always aggressive towards you, never considering your feelings. I now understand how much I depend on you, this family can’t be without you."

Watching Feng Jiaojiao weeping on the ground, Qian Kang’s lips quivered slightly, as if he wanted to say something, but swallowed it back.

"Get up, Jiaojiao." Qian Kang’s voice sounded somewhat weary, "Things have come to this point, it can’t be resolved by just admitting a mistake. There’s no going back for us!"

Feng Jiaojiao seemed not to hear him, only continuing to cry incessantly.

"I promise, I will change in the future, I’ll become gentle, respect you, and won’t throw tantrums anymore. Please, give me another chance, don’t leave me, don’t leave this family."

"Jiaojiao." Qian Kang frowned tightly, seeing Feng Jiaojiao still immersed in her sobbing, ignoring his words urging her to get up and calm down, a tide of disappointment surged within his heart.

She’s always like this, never listens to him.

"I’ve made myself very clear, calming down doesn’t come from endless crying like this."

Feng Jiaojiao seemed to finally realize Qian Kang’s attitude had once again turned resolute, her sobs came to an abrupt stop, her eyes filled with fear and disbelief.

"Qian Kang, you can’t be like this, don’t you care about our many years of feelings?"

She tried to grab his hand again, but Qian Kang turned to the side to avoid her.

"Feelings?" Qian Kang shook his head with a bitter smile, as if he heard something ridiculous.

"Is that what feelings are? You just got used to me obeying your every word, you never asked my thoughts, cared about my opinion, never listened to my words. Let it go, Jiaojiao, I’m really tired! This marriage, I’m determined to end it."

After he finished speaking, he didn’t look at Feng Jiaojiao again, turning his head toward the gloomy-faced Father Feng. ℯ𝐥.

"I know you have the power to get me kicked out of the army, I’ll be waiting." Qian Kang looked at Father Feng, nodding to him. "I still have things to deal with in the army, I’ll go deal with that first."

After saying this to Father Feng, without waiting for him to speak, Qian Kang turned and walked out, slamming the door shut with a "bang," shutting out Feng Jiaojiao’s cries and pleas.

"You scoundrel!" As soon as Qian Kang left, Father Feng angrily swept the things off the table onto the floor.

"Dad, what to do, he really wants to divorce me!" Feng Jiaojiao looked at her father, for the first time, even her father’s involvement didn’t work, she really didn’t know what to do.

"Does he think he can leave just because he wants to?" Father Feng coldly smiled, getting up to find Liu Hongjun.

Liu Hongjun’s office, when informed of Father Feng’s arrival, Liu Hongjun quietly put away the documents on the table, taking a sip of tea.

Here he comes!

"Old Liu, where is Qian Kang’s divorce application? Give it to me!" Father Feng hurriedly walked up to Liu Hongjun, reaching out his hand for Qian Kang’s divorce application.

Liu Hongjun saw this, slightly furrowed his eyebrows, leaned back against his chair, crossing his arms over his chest, a hint of helplessness and difficulty in his eyes.
