Chapter 62 - Raid
After swallowing the breakfast, it was time for Viktor to fix the sleigh. He upgraded it so that it became twice as big and added a few parts he gathered up from the monastery chairs to increase its comfort.
He employed the aid of [Metal Bending] to create longer metal plates for its slides. Then in the midst of this, he realized that even though he chose to increase his mana pool, apparently that increase in spirit force also helped him to bend the metal easier.
After a few minutes of complicated process and raw hard work, a 5-seater sleigh was finally created. While looking at the masterpiece he just made, Viktor wiped the sweat off his brow despite the cold. Inwardly, he felt extremely glad that he was able to finish it.
“Alright, let’s continue our journey!”
“Woof woof!”
The mutated wolves barked in unison, before they ran to the direction Viktor pointed to. Up north!
Strong gusts of wind blew over their faces as they slid across the endless snowfield on the comfortable sleigh. To pass time during this journey, Eva decided to consume her spirit stones, while Viktor closed his eyes and took some beauty sleep that he desperately needed after last night.-.
With the speed they were currently moving at, they should be able to reach the designated city by tomorrow.
Thanks to the two dedicated bodyguards who kept watch and 6 mutated wolves ready to maul anything who dared to come too close, Viktor was able to get himself a few hours of uninterrupted sleep.
At one point, the Djinn did tell him that as his realm increased, his need for sleep and food would decrease. However, Viktor vehemently refused to believe such a notion. For him, sleeping and eating are not just something he needed to continue living, they are also a part of what makes life enjoyable.
Viktor decided to sleep his worries away. He laid on the princess’ shoulder, closed his eyes, and took a nap.
Urrghhh…
“You awake, dear?” The melodious voice of Eva was the first thing that welcomed Viktor after his well-deserved sleep.
Viktor was in luck, as this time, he was not awakened by great peril coming in his way.
The day has given way for the night to take over the stage; stars dotted the sky with their shimmering light while the moonlight’s glow vaguely illuminated the outline of the endless forest. The scenery before him could be described as something straight out of a twisted fantasy film.
Noticing that he was awake, Barry gave Viktor an update of their current location on the map as well as a summary of what happened during his sleep. As he listened to Barry’s words, Viktor looked around and saw another settlement hidden beyond the dead trees.
It was a small abandoned town, with one or two hundred buildings at most. A faded sign with the word “Nyandoma” written on it could be seen, and as they ventured into the town’s vicinity, the Djinn informed him about the number of zombies wandering around the town.
As he was bored from the long journey, Viktor announced to his team that they were going to raid the town to cast away his boredom.
Considering the number of zombies there, he decided to go in with his full team.
“Let’s see if we can work together well.”
The whole group of five, along with the blue husky, decided to enter the place while the wolves stayed outside. As they walked deeper, each kept an eye in one direction, just in case any of the zombies decided to launch a sneak attack.
Viktor had thought about seeing the wolves in action, however for today’s raid, he wanted to see how well each member of his team can work together. Hence, he brought Barry and Eva in while leaving the wolves to stay guard outside the town, to be called only when needed.
<62 stage one, 46 stage two and six of the stage three> the Djinn’s voice resounded in his mind again, telling Viktor the numbers of undead detected in this abandoned town.
There are just a little above a hundred undead, but with their current strength, this amount should be a good practice partner.
“Alright, let’s do it as we discussed earlier.”
Barry and Eva looked at each other, their expressions extremely nervous. This was normal though, as they haven’t seen much actual action in their lives. Meanwhile, the two bear-like bodyguards smiled at each other, both were similarly excited to try out their newfound strength.
Their plan was for Torri to serve as the eyes of the group and look for where the undead are before deciding which one to strike at. In the meantime, the other three would come closer and sneak up on the target, while Torri would stay at the back to provide cover fire.
When he made this particular plan, Viktor thought he should be the one leading the charge, as he could detect enemies and kill them more efficiently with the aid of the Djinn’s sensor. However, doing so would just completely defeat the purpose of today’s training.
Hence, he stayed in the shadows, aiding Torri in double checking the surroundings, while the blue husky walked with the others to help them go for the kill.
Torri was a former member of the special forces, and his time there clearly displayed here as Viktor watched the man take his time to assess each situation and find the best call for the group. He rarely, if ever, made any mistake.
Boris walked alongside him in front, and whenever a zombie appeared, he would use his knife to kill it quickly and quietly.
When the condition seems safe enough, Boris would let Barry take the kill. The kid was bright enough, and he has the potential to master various fighting styles. In addition, he would follow Torri’s calls as accurately as possible, something that Viktor couldn’t help but notice.
As for Eva, to his shock, she actually asked to come along for the experience. In all honesty, Viktor thought he would need to force her to train at some point, but the princess was apparently smart enough to know that the combat skills and experience she never thought she would learn would be necessary if she were to survive in this new world.
Even though he was proud of her attitude and initiative , Viktor couldn’t help but worry about her as he gave her a small 9mm handgun with a silencer attached. He didn’t want this simple practice to put a scar on his princess’ beautiful skin.
So far, everything was a success. They moved like a well-oiled machine, each person knew their roles and executed them like they have been doing this in their whole lives. When they encountered the stage 2 red undead, Viktor was nervous, but apparently a team of high stage realm with 20-ish battle power was more than enough to follow their speed and strength.
Viktor himself only paid attention towards the nearby huge black undead. That particular stage three undead seemed to be able to sense their arrival and walked as if it was seeking their hiding place.
Certainly, this one will be his part. Viktor was actually itching on trying his new weapon, the tier 2 axe.
With his 49 points of agility, he confidently snuck behind the black monster. Right as he raised his axe, ready for the kill, he was surprised by an announcement appearing in front of his eyes.
[You received an increase of strength by 4 points]
“What?”
