Chapter 379: Chapter 184: A Little Face

“To be honest, Young Manor Lord Feng is a decent man. Seeing him in such a state… I couldn’t bear it. That’s why I took the liberty of asking.”

Feng Xianzhi was already on the verge of tears halfway through Jiang Ran’s explanation.

He finally understood that Jiang Ran had stopped Yan Wushuang not for himself, but for his son.

Once Jiang Ran finished, Feng Xianzhi quickly bowed deeply.

“Leader Yan, if you know of any skilled doctors, please, I beg you to tell us!”

“I see.”

Yan Wushuang gave Jiang Ran a long, searching look, then mused for a moment before speaking.

“If you had asked anyone else about this, you probably wouldn’t have found what you were looking for.

“But by asking me, you’ve come to the right person.

“Travel about three hundred li to the Northwest from here, and you will find a Poisonous Pool. There, a Divine Doctor resides in seclusion.

“He’s not well-known in the martial world, as he lives as a recluse.

“But his skills are extraordinary. He may be able to treat this affliction.”

“The Divine Doctor of the Poisonous Pool?”

Jiang Ran nodded thoughtfully.

“Alright. Thank you, Leader Yan. Now, what is the price for this information?”

Yan Wushuang held up three fingers.

“Three taels of silver?”

Jiang Ran blinked.

Yan Wushuang nearly laughed in exasperation. “Young Hero Jiang, if you’re going to joke around like that, I’m not playing along.”

“Fine, fine. Three hundred taels, then?”

Jiang Ran sighed, shaking his head as he reached for his silver notes.

But then he heard Yan Wushuang snort.

“A life is on the line. Naturally, the price is three thousand taels!”

Jiang Ran snatched his hand back and turned to Feng Xianzhi.

“Manor Lord Feng…?”

“Men! Go to the counting house and fetch the silver.”

Feng Xianzhi didn’t hesitate for a second, immediately dispatching a man to fetch it.

His son’s life was at a critical juncture; he had to be saved.

But to save him, they needed someone with the ability to do so.

They had been unable to find a doctor anywhere. For this piece of information from Yan Wushuang, they wouldn’t have batted an eye at thirty thousand taels, let alone three thousand.

The servant was quick to leave and just as quick to return, carrying a thick stack of silver notes.

After accepting the silver notes, Yan Wushuang glanced at Jiang Ran.

“However, you should be prepared. The Divine Doctor of the Poisonous Pool goes by the name Poison Dragon Wanderer.

“He has an incredibly eccentric and difficult temperament.

“If you wish to ask for his help, he will likely give you a very hard time.

“But as the saying goes, ‘sincerity can move mountains.’ As long as you are earnest, it shouldn’t be impossible to achieve your goal.

“Also, you cannot go now.

“He is unwilling to receive visitors and treats only one person per year.

“He has already seen his patient for this year—someone from my Hundred Treasures Association, in fact.

“The most suitable time to visit would be the second day of the new year. At that time, the miasma around the Poisonous Pool will lift, making it the perfect time to seek medical treatment!”

Jiang Ran nodded.

“I’d like to thank you… but thinking about that three-thousand-tael price tag makes the words catch in my throat.”

“No matter. The silver has arrived. You can keep your gratitude.”

Yan Wushuang smiled. “Farewell.”

With that, he waved his hand, and his entourage turned to leave.

But Baipi didn’t leave.

He and a group of his men stayed behind. With a wave of his hand, he had them disperse and surround Qifeng Manor.

Then he spoke to Jiang Ran and Feng Xianzhi.

“My apologies, you two. This Ximen Feng is a skilled individual, and his Lightweight Technique is exceptionally high.

“To be cautious, we should remain on guard in the vicinity, lest he finds a chance to escape.”

Feng Xianzhi nodded repeatedly. “Not at all, not at all. Young man, would you like to come inside for a while?”

“That won’t be necessary.”

Baipi said, “Please, go about your business. Pay us no mind.”

“Well…”

Feng Xianzhi glanced at Jiang Ran.

Jiang Ran smiled. “Just let them be. Manor Lord Feng, Madam Feng, let’s go inside.”

“Alright.”

Feng Xianzhi nodded, and led his wife back into the manor with Jiang Ran.

Along the way, he thanked Jiang Ran profusely, wishing he could kowtow to show the depths of his gratitude.

Jiang Ran waved his hand, telling them there was no need for such formalities.

“It was a small effort, really,” he said. “Besides, you two were the ones who paid. The Hundred Treasures Association certainly lives up to its name… They’re unbelievably greedy.”

Feng Xianzhi gave a wry smile.

“Young Hero Jiang, you may not know this, but most people don’t even have the connections to spend their money at the Hundred Treasures Association.

“This is information that ordinary people could never hope to obtain. If it weren’t for you today, Young Hero Jiang, I’m afraid Leader Yan wouldn’t have even given us the time of day.

“We owe all of this to you, Young Hero Jiang.”

“You’re too kind, Manor Lord Feng.”

Jiang Ran glanced at the couple. In just one day, they seemed to have aged a great deal.

A parent’s love for their child was truly a moving sight.

He sighed.

“Don’t pin all your hopes on this one person. You should continue your search for other doctors, but at least now you have a solid lead.

“Even if the others can’t cure him, you at least have one more Divine Doctor to try.

“Alright, you two should go and get some rest. I have some other matters to attend to.”

“Very well.”

Feng Xianzhi said, “Young Hero Jiang, please make yourself at home in Qifeng Manor. Whatever you may require, it shall be granted.”

Jiang Ran nodded. After parting ways with Feng Xianzhi and his wife, he returned to his room.

The room was quiet. As soon as he entered, he saw Tang Huayi sitting in a chair, holding a blade with its edge pressed against Ximen Feng’s neck.

Ximen Feng was craning his neck away, terrified the blade would slice his throat.

Meanwhile, Cheng Tianyang was fast asleep on the bed.

The moment he saw Jiang Ran, Ximen Feng yelled:

“You! You have to do something about this lunatic!

“Get him to move this blade away from my neck!”

The words were barely out of his mouth when he felt the blade press a little deeper into his neck. He immediately shut up.

Jiang Ran smiled faintly and gave a slight wave. Only then did Tang Huayi sheathe his blade, yawning as he spoke.

“If you don’t need anything else, I’m going back to sleep.”

“Go ahead.”

Jiang Ran waved him off. After Tang Huayi had left, he pulled over a chair, sat down, and casually poured two cups of tea. He pushed one across to Ximen Feng.

“Here, have some tea. Let’s talk.”
